  1. Well, many people came and told me that I had the best set-up in the room. The thing is, I don't have that great of stuff. I mean, I focus on Bronze and Copper, so there's no AF #15 on my wall. And if I have the best set-up in the room, then you know it's not a great show. I'm not doing Allentown. They announced it three or four weeks ago, and I (and most every dealer) already has their dates filled. It also being the weekend before Thanksgiving makes it a tough one. I'm not willing to set up for two days to have nobody show, because as bad as Gap Con was (and it was bad), it was just one day. This one is 10-7 on Saturday and 10-5 on Sunday. That's just brutal.
  2. I actually didn't do that bad all things considered. There were only 5 comic dealers there. There was the one guy with just 50 cent books (and I wish I had more time to buy stuff from him, as he had decent stuff if you searched), one guy who had a ton of books but they looked like they were bagged in 1994, another guy with decent stuff but a little high priced for this type of show, and the guy next to me who was just doing his second show and also had things priced really high (but he's just learning). But I hustled and handed out business cards and talked comics (which I love to do).
  3. Mark Evanier has written a lot about Dorf on his blog. It sounded like -- and I'm paraphrasing -- he wanted to be a part of comics (and comic strips specifically) so badly, yet he didn't really have the talent and Caniff threw him a bone by letting him help out with some Steve Canyon work. Even the San Diego Con got too big for him quickly, and as it became more important and influential, he became less so. https://www.newsfromme.com/2009/11/03/shel-dorf-r-i-p/
  4. The super-thin Mylites are just so cripsy and crunchy. I don't like them. I'm cool with the 2 mils, though. They're my go-to for wall books.
  5. This Sunday from 10 to 4 (remember, it's time to turn the clocks back, so don't come early), is a small, regional con on the PA/Jersey border, just off I-80. I had nothing else going on this weekend, so I'm setting up. I've never done it before, and I haven't spoken to anyone who has (so I can't vouch for its quality), but it's comics and it's a Sunday and that means a mini-con is the place to be. Gap Con Mt. Bethel Fire Company Hall 2341 N Delaware Rd (Rt 611) Mt. Bethel, PA http://www.jerseyshorecomicbookshow.com/gap-con-mt.bethel.html
  6. I use BCW supplies (https://www.bcwsupplies.com/); they offer free shipping on orders over $80.
  7. I agree with him; comic creators don't sell tickets. The people who get signatures from movie and TV people are not there to buy comics. They will get their picture taken with Star X and then buy a t-shirt or a sword or some toys, but they walk past the comic book people. Comic book people care about the dealers. If there are guests there, they will find something from their collection (or maybe buy something) for them to sign.
  8. I have this -- and it's great. Stanton and Ditko had a strange working relationship. You can see a lot of Ditko in his pieces. Here's a short article on them and their studio: http://www.dialbforblog.com/archives/695/ditko3.html
  9. Awesome! Well worth the price. (I'll be taking my commission now, thanks.)
  10. I did, which is why I assume it's a 3.0. But what do you want more: a 3.0 with a big chunk out of the front cover or a 3.0 with a big chunk out of the back cover? (An addendum: We all know that not all comics in the same grade are equal, and so many people here stress buying the comic and not the grade. That's difficult, however, as slabbed comics tend to work more as a commodity than as actual product. So you see an ASM #1 3.0 has a value of X at this point in time, just as a share of Microsoft has a value of X. But if I were in the market for that book and in that grade, I would be all over that like white on rice.)
  11. That Spidey #1 is a real bargain as it looks from the front so much better than a 3.0.
  12. I'll take: Lot 086: New Gods #1 F+ 6.5; $55 Lot 090: Phantom Stranger #1 F 6.0; $30 Lot 098: Shadow #1 F- 5.5; $5 Lot 109: Strange Tales #135 VG+ 4.5; $70
  13. I'll take: Lot 004: Amazing Adventures #1 VG 4.0; $8Lot 008: Astonishing Tales #25 VG 4.0, MVS intact; $25Lot 011: Beware the Creeper #1 F 6.0; $10Lot 018: Champions #1 VG 4.0; $5Lot 030: Demon #1 VG 4.0; $20Lot 046: Fear #10 F 6.0; $15Lot 047: Fear #20 F 6.0; $15Lot 062: Inhumans #1 F+ 6.5; $16
  14. Jesus, that's an amazing book. Those reds are phenomenal.
  15. (Last one for a while. I have to pick my daughter up.) Flash #133 -- Fine/Very Fine -- SOLD ($51 in FN in 2018 Overstreet) The best Flash cover of the Silver Age. Disagree? I will fight you! I will claw your eyes out! I will go to town on your feeblemindedness! Or, more likely, I will just talk about how cool it is, with the puppet Flash and the Abra Kadabra in the poster. So many colors -- all bright. Great Gaspar Saladino lettering. It has it all! Very nice copy. General wear for a comic in this condition.
  16. Flash #129 -- Fine/Very Fine -- SOLD ($81 in FN in 2018 Overstreet) Second GA Flash (as if you well-educated folks didn't know this). Love this cover, too. Nice, bright, and clean. Lesser individuals, individuals lacking couth, would call this a VF and have no qualms against it. I have couth, my friends. I'm rolling in it.
  17. Flash #128 -- VG+ -- $45 ($48 in VG in 2018 Overstreet) Another great cover, this one starring Flash's costume and AbraKadabra's hand. Would be higher except for that tear/fold next to the word balloon on the right edge. Otherwise, it's solid, with general wear you'd expect for a VG-ish comic.
  18. Flash #127 -- Fine -- $60 ($72 in FN in 2018 Overstreet) Strangest Grodd ever, but Infantino had bad days every once in a while. Bright green colors. Very small tear under the Flash's right boot. Nice copy.
  19. Flash #123 -- Good+ -- SOLD ($241 in GD in 2018 Overstreet) I am not one for amateur cleaning of comics. I won't be going out and buying a press. I won't be finding out ways to make a book look better (without restoration) because I would surely mess it up. This book, however, would be one that a person who knows what they're doing could tackle. Right above the Flash's head is some stuff. Food? Who knows. I suspect that it could be easily removed by someone with moxie and knowhow. (That is not me.) There are some other spots around him that are there for the long haul, I suspect. Other than that, it's a pretty decent copy. Edge and general wear where I suspect it was read, but the cover and centerfold are tight.
  20. Flash #119 -- Very Good+ -- $75 ($76 in VG in 2018 Overstreet) I don't know if you can pinpoint when the covers started to get really, really good, but this was one of the best. Who doesn't love a good Mirror Master battle? General wear around the edges. 1/8" spine split at bottom. Very nice, bright, presentable book.
  21. Flash #108 -- Good -- $90 ($107 in GD in 2018 Overstreet) This is the worst of the bunch condition-wise. Tear at the bottom over the treadmill, and spine split from the bottom up until a half-inch from the bottom staple. Presents well. The back, however, has issues. Tears, folds, small pieces out. This is what drops it to a Good.
  22. Nice selection of pre-150 Flash issues. I may be biased (Flash is my #1 favorite DC hero), but I think these comics had the best covers of the Silver Age. Colorful. Fun. Everything you could want. For the most part, these are nice, mid-grade books that would look good in your long boxes. These were from an original owner collection, so I can only assume they were never cleaned, pressed, or altered in any way. Shipping: Flat $5 for anywhere in the US. If you buy over $150, it's free. I will ship worldwide, and it will be actual cost, minus $5 if you spend more than $150. Payment: Paypal, checks, or money orders. Returns: I accept returns for reasonable reasons. Did I miss something? That's reasonable. Your wife caught you buying more comics and you want a refund? Eh... not so reasonable. I'm sure people will want to negotiate (they always do), but an "I'll take it" in the thread trumps anything until a deal is done. All sold, people. Thanks for all your messages.
  23. Are we to go back in time? (I think you mean the 27th.)
