  1. I'd love it if they did this for all the prime Archie artists.

So far, they have Lucey, DeCarlo, Schwartz (and Goldberg (shrug) )

It would be nice to see artists like Frese, Vigoda and White represented. I would also say Montana and Sahle, but most of their stuff has already been reprinted in the Archie Archive books.

I have the first two DeCarlo volumes, and like them. The only downside is that there is one story that repeats between both books (or I have a printing error).

That's made me reluctant to pick up vol. 3 blindly.

There is a Craig Yoe book from IDW called 'Archie: A Celebration of America's Favorite Teenager' that is really excellent. I got it at the IDW booth at SDCC a couple of years ago.

  2. Nice one!

I got all speculate-ey yesterday at my LCS and looked for some Black Panther/Adam Warlock steals.

A few books were around, but no steals. I'm happy with my current copies, luckily.

What’s the Black Panther speculation about? Is he supposed to be in some movie…

    Please: no, thanks.

Yep. There's a black panther movie in the works.

  3. I think this is probably borderline bronze book since it is a 15 center, but posting it here anyways. Dropped it at SDCC last year and got it back today. Was supposed to have Roy Thomas sig, but ended up with Sal Buscema. Still pretty happy about it, though.

  4. I didn't think I'd win this one.....but my final 15 seconds snipe bid held. It really is a good time to pick up them in 8.0 to 9.0....I think I may have been outbid on this same book a few years ago at 1500.....it went for 2/3s of that today. This book is notorious for dingy color and miscuts/ off-centering.....this one has the full CCA stamp...also unusual with the # 12 probably the only one more difficult. I think James R. has a 9.2 of # 12 that is, to me, the best copy in existence due to it's superior QP. I had thought this 13 was miscut, but it appears that the book is just not square in the well. FF 13 is probably my favorite issue so I apologize if I outbid any of you. GOD BLESS...

GORGEOUS book jimbo! I think this is probably my absolute favorite early FF cover. I have it in like a 4.5, but still have it up on display just because I enjoy looking at it.

I'd really like a t-shirt about the same color as the cover with this cover on the front. I tend not to like t-shirts with covers on them, but this one is just so awesome.

Jealous of you guys who play in those 8+ waters on early FFs. :)

  5. Beautiful copy of Avengers 59 9.6 WP front back and inside looks like it came right from the press.

    Avengers59WP2.jpg

    Paul :)

Has anybody else noticed that this book is pretty easy to find in high grade? I regularly see 7.5+ copies of this book and not as many around it. I wonder why. Maybe it's just me?

FF 75 is the same way.

  6. 3. Buyer asks if two of my books are 9.8s. Now keep in mind that these are all new unread books. I take them out of the bags and boards, look them over, note sharp corners, no spine ticks, and bright colors (they really are nice to look at). Instead of saying there are no flaws that I can see I said there were no flaws (I apologized for this and gave the buyer a partial refund at his reqest).

I told the buyer that the books look as good as the pictures. I also went on to state that I did not see why they could not make a 9.8 with the proviso that CGC can be unpredictable.

While I did miss a slight corner crease (did not break color) on the back of one book, the flaw was clearly visible in the pictures that I provided. The buyer either missed this flaw as well or never bothered to look at the pictures before making the purchase.

    (1) This reads like the first time you took them out of the bags, it was to see if they were "9.8" If that is the case, strike one.

    (2) If you don't grade enough moderns to have a reasonable idea, then don't do a deal for 9.8s. It is risky and most likely waiting to bite you in the can.

    (3) If you writing your magnum opus post is not worth $6 to you, then god bless you.

    (4)

Completely agree on 2 and 3.

  7. :ohnoez: Someone please summarize!!!

    1)

    - medusanyc bought some raw Chew books from seller that were described as 9.8s

    - seller sends books two-to-a-bag inside a box with no protection apart from some newspaper

    - books arrive in less than 9.8 condition

    2)

    - medusanyc contacts seller, explains problems with condition & lack of proper packaging

    - seller busts out the "I'm not a professional grader"-spiel with a side of "other people have sent me books packed this way" and, as a parting shot, the "even though the books are not as described, you still got a good deal compared to eBay prices"-non-apology.

    3)

    - medusanyc asks for a partial refund of $9

    - seller claims that he's had enough of medusanyc's abuse, counters with a $3 refund and tells him he'd prefer not to deal with him again

    Did I miss anything?

Seems about right. Why not just get a full refund and send the books back?

More confirmation for why I don't step in the 9.8 waters without a graded book in hand. So much hassle for so little reward.

  8. I'm scanning books now for a silver and bronze thread. Hope to start it by EOW. right now the bulk are my under copies of some FF, Avengers, Adventure and Marvel Team-Up. Should be some good deals in those books.

I'm also thinking of adding some others that are in my collection but out of my focal areas right now. If there's a run you've been working on that's not ASM, Avengers, FF, X-Men or Adventure, PM me and I'll see if I have anything.

  9. To all the sellers who try to get around paying the Paypal fees, I want you to know that it's a huge turn off, and, while I hesitate to say "I'll never buy from you!!! :sumo:" so far I have refused to do so. For instance, there are some early Spideys for sale right now. I'd buy two if not all three of them if the seller would just handle his Paypal business better.

    You have two options:

    1. Eat the cost. It's a cost of doing business, so deal with it.

    2. Factor the fees into your asking price. Is that so hard to do?

When you ask me to pay your fees, or to send the money to you as a gift, thereby leaving me no recourse should the deal go south, you lose my business. I just thought people might be interested to know.

I'm not the only one, right?

I accept PayPal, and eat the costs, and figure it into pricing.

PayPal is the bad guy though, please remember that. It doesn't take 3+% in fees to perform the virtual zero labor of handling millions of dollars in transactions per day. Banks don't make 1/50th of the profit as PayPal does per man hour of labor etc, IMO.

I'm sure that you and many have noticed a post I have made suggesting the best way to handle the fees. I doubt many have ever done what I suggested, or even thought of it. Someone should contact PayPal, and not bash fellow members. PayPal is the bad guy, did I say that already?

Clearly you've never tried to run a major enterprise business on the internet. I agree the fee might be a little high, but the cost per transaction is definitely not 0. What about all the people working to keep the site running and the business flowing? Are they 0 labor?

You tell me, how many people does it take to operate an internet only company? Remember that they have zero costs for labor like shipping, no fraud of the business or the dozens of normal business expenses. Their biggest cost is their customer support department, which is very good, though the policies protect sellers too much.

Stop defending PayPal, they make billions in profit per year, with the costs of a small business like a single McDonald's. They can function equally with those people handling $1 million in business, or $1 trillion.

It's like a person defending the government for stealing over 50% of every dollar from every income earner. It's bad, it's not honorable. I would love to make that kind of money for virtually no costs, but then again, I wouldn't do it, my fees would be much more reasonable.

Please do not judge me as mean etc, for simply posting my opinions. I am a good person, very fair and honorable. I do not take advantage of others because I can get away with it, for any reason. I try to do the right thing, even if I have that kind of advantage or leverage. PayPal has a monopoly, and they are taking full advantage of that. There are federal laws against monopolies, because of the unfair decisions which they typically make.

lol. software doesn't write and maintain itself.

if this is what you think their costs are, then i'm not sure how to help you.

AMAZING accomplishment! This is probably my grail run right now. I expect it will take me another 5-10 years to complete, if I ever do.

  12. Got this today. Most exciting $1 I've ever spent on a book and now I know what the GA guys say about buying the book and not the grade. Been on the lookout for it for years but never seen it.

Very cool. Loved the cartoon as a kid. Confused on it being hard to find. (shrug) ebay has them all the time.

Really? I never see them when I look, but I never went so far as to put a watch out for it. Never see it at cons either.
