  1. That could be arranged. (thumbs u Here is a preview.
  2. Very cool Todd! One thing that amazes me is that the HPL house isn't even on the National Register of Historic Places. One of these days when I get a chance I'll put the nomination together and submit it.
  3. It's dark historical adventure story that takes place during the siege of Vienna in 1529 by Suleyman the Magnificent. In the Roy Thomas version Suleyman became Yezdigerd and Vienna became Makkalet. The Vulture Mikhal Oglu (a historical figure) stays the same in both. Conan sort of takes the role of Gottfried in the original story. The original is available for free on Progect Gutenberg and well worth the read for Sonja fans, just to see where her roots are: http://gutenberg.net.au/ebooks06/0608101.txt
  4. Everyone welcome to join in the fun This the first appearance of Red Sonya (the inspiration for Red Sonja) in 1934. The story "Shadow of the Vulture" is the one that Roy Thomas adapted for Conan 23 and 24.
  5. It's not Bronze Age, but will this make me an honorary member of the club?
  6. I posted a bit in this thread about Howard Days this year. For those interested my full trip report is up on the REH: Two-Gun Raconteur site. http://rehtwogunraconteur.com/?p=23225
  7. Congratulations! That's a great looking group of books. Thanks BZ Wow! Nice haul Bill!
  8. I've never heard that suggested before, but I haven't read it. Are you working on a first issue of WT?
  9. Congrats on the Operator 5 run. There was a very interesting paper at the PCA/ACA conference on anti-fascism in pulps using the legendary Purple Invasion storyline as it's primary focus.
  10. Jeff, were any of the attendees at the Howard event able to provide you with any new bits of knowledge about the history of Conan comics in Mexico? There was one guy, an older collector, that said he owned a couple of the 60s ones many years ago (possible some of the same copies I have now), but that was it. They were a real hit though. Here's a trip report that talks about the comics panel some: http://adventuresfantastic.blogspot.com/
  11. That's more consistent with the rest of the image. I'm surprised they went to the expense of a fifth color. Obviously they didn't go to enough expense since it ran out!
  12. Having seen it first hand, it definitely is not fading. It has to be some kind of ink issue in the printing process.
  13. Here's a hat shot. The REHupa group pic at the Caddo Peak Ranch BBQ with Tim and Joe.
  14. Here's a couple more pics of the comics panel. Tim Truman is checking out my Prince Valiant Feature Book 26 as we both go into fanboy mode discussing Hal Foster.
  15. Thanks Todd! Here's a picture of the boxing panel at the site of the old ice house. This was where they kept the beer cold and hidden during prohibition and where Howard would lace up the gloves and take on the local farmhands and oil field roughnecks. Here Mark Finn reads Sailor Steve Costigan story in hilarious dialect while I pass out some of my Fight Stories pulps for the crowd to look at. That's Joe in the bottom right.
  16. [font:Times New Roman]Joe Lansdale is one of the coolest guys on the planet. Over a decade ago, my wife was on a "How to Get Published" panel with Joe and several other authors at a convention which now eludes my memory. At the time she'd published about ten novels, all stand-alone paperbacks of modest success. In the ensuing panel discussion Joe asked her what she was currently working on. Rox (Rachel) mentioned that she'd been toying with an idea for a fantasy series involving Jinn (genies) who can control the weather, but didn't know if the idea would sell. Joe looked at her incredulously and said (paraphrased): "That's a great idea, I wish I'd thought of that." She went on to sell that series to Penguin, and the break-out success of the Weather Warden novels turned out to be Rachel Caine's first hit series. Joe is one of the best; I'm glad you had a chance to meet him.[/font] What a great story and so true about Joe. He's so down to earth and gracious but with a wonderfully irreverent sense of humor. What's cool is that I not only got to meet him, but hang out all weekend. That's the great thing about Howard Days -- much more intimate than a regular con. I'm going to get to meet him again later this year at Worldcon as we'll be on a Weird Westerns panel together.
  17. The article is in Conan Meets the Academy, which also won an award for best essay collection. http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/0786461527
  18. Thanks guys! I had an awesome time. Truman and Lansdale were really cool guys and a lot of fun.
  19. I was very honor to received an award last night for an article I wrote called "Hyborian Age Archaeology."
  20. Did a panel yesterday on REH comics with Tim Truman, Mark Finn, and Al Harron. I'm having a blast this weekend hanging out with Lansdale and Truman. These guys are cool as hell.
  21. The 10-year too. Bob Howard would no doubt approve on many levels.
