  1. That Blaine art is awesome! And those WTs are gorgeous! I love this thread.
  2. It looks like Wandering Star is blowing out their remaining inventory of REH limited editions on ebay.uk. If there are any of you Conan fans that were thinking about picking these up but were put off by the high price tags, now's your chance to pick some up much cheaper than I've ever seen for sale anywhere - way below cover price. The regular limited editions of the first two Conans are 30 pounds each and the Ultra editons (100 copies) are 75 and 100 pounds respectively. http://shop.ebay.co.uk/wanderingstarbooks/m.html?_nkw=&_armrs=1&_from=&_ipg=25
  3. Congrats again Todd It was great to see you again, and to see that smile on your face when the deal was struck! And thanks to David, again, for treating us all to a delicious dinner at Trattoria Giuseppe Thats an amazing book to own Fury. It truly is one of the great GA covers. Thanks! I've admired it for years and am very happy to have one. Congrats! It's no secret how much I love this book. I'm glad to see it's starting to become appreciated by collectors again like it once was. And yeah, I still can't the label doesn't mention Hal Foster.
  4. Nice Bill! I agree with Fuelman, that Ibis looks cool.
  5. Happy Birthday Two-Gun Bob!
  6. Nice pickups Neil. I had a nice cgc 9.2 61 at one point, but I sold it when I decided I was never going finish all the price variants.
  7. Awesome David! Congratulations on finally getting a copy. Few people realize how scarce this book is. I think you and I are the only ones on the boards that have copies. Plus it's the coolest of the John Carter covers and the only one by John Coleman Burroughs (from a blown up panel). I know you must be excited - this and the Hi-Spot 2 are really white whales for ERB fans.
  8. That was a lot of fun! After three days with the kids at Disney and Universal it was really nice to have some adult conversation.
  9. One of the last true pulps to feature a REH cover. Plus a cool Virgil Finlay interior illo.
  10. Continuing my REH pulp collecting. I picked a couple of Famous Fantastic Mysteries from the early 50's. These are some of the last true pulps, as every one was starting to make the switch to the digest format. Both reprint REH novella that originally appeared in Weird Tales, only this time they're accompanied by cool Finlay illustrations. Love this Skull-Face cover:
  11. Somehow I missed this when it was first posted. Congratulations on a sweet book! I picked up a nice one a few years ago and it's one of my favorite books in my collection.
  12. Agree wholeheartedly. (thumbs u Just about all of my favorite Fiction House covers are by Whitman. FH definitely emphasized covers and published some comics with great ones by Lubbers, Zolnerowich, Eisner, Fine and Lily Renee. I am amazed at the breadth and quality of Whitman's work and I'm happy to see his art receive some recognition since his work is up there with the best of the ones I just named. Whitman is one of a handful of artists whose prime period was the Atomic Age and who never drew the GA or SA superheroes and, therefore, has been unfairly over-looked. I think it helps his reputation that his books were printed at a time when the FH colorists were better and the presses produced more consistently accurate representation of the color scheme. That's a great point about the coloring - very true. It really makes his work pop. I remember when we did the big GA cover contest four or five years ago, I nominated Man o' Mars 1, but I think that was the only Whitman cover nominated. I feel pretty sure if we did it again that there would be quite a few more entrys - Planet Comics 66 for sure.
  13. I really think Maurice Whitman is one of the most underrated cover artists ever. I'm glad that it seems he is getting more and more attention in the last couple of years.
  14. That's such a cool painting. It immediately brings to mind a number of Dali's optical illusion works.
  15. Welcome back, Sreve. I'd take the 7.0 and the cash. 150k is a lot of money for a .5 grade increase, even if it's a weak 7.0.
  16. What a great book. I'm looking forward to eventually seeing one helluva Planet Comics group shot. Ditto! Awesome books Cheetah!
