Newest Additions. It's been awhile since I've added anything to my collection.
-
I found this thread on accident but saw people have been posting in it for nearly a year so i figured I'd contribute. I am slowly working on a full set as well but for now this is my gem:
Only one sig to go.
Why only one sig to go? Writers only?
-
My modern FT submission with an invoice of 11/20 just updated to shipped this morning.
-
Love the Man of Steel 18. Maybe Dennis Janke will make an appearance this decade and you can finish it. Sometimes I regret not adding multiple sigs to my books.
And now my Bogdanove LBCC submission….

As long as you realize the real newsstand version has the bar code. Diamond didn't distribute and with a bar code.
DG
Quite aware of the barcodes. Until late 1993 all of my books were from local gas stations and pharmacies. Incidentally, it was twenty years ago today that I walked home from the local pharmacy reading Superman 75.

Hexenmeister,
Hopefully this won't frustrate you further, but you don't have the "real' newsstand version of the first printing with the bar code. Ironically I had a 5 pack sitting on my printer because I've been meaning to scan it for the past month.
DG
No frustration. I have a few newsstand versions graded. Plus I have a short box full of NM newsstand books I still have to go through to see what is 9.8 material. I'll worry about them later. I also have my original set from when I was 10 tucked away, almost all newsstand.

Finally got my Ordway sigs. I can check off a few books from the series with all desired signatures: Ordway, Hazlewood, and Grummet.
-
Just in today. Finally got my Rick Burchett sigs.
-
Picked this one up a few weeks back. Man of Steel 19 3rd print and Superman 77 3rd print. Anyone come across an Adventures of Superman 499 2nd print yet?
-
Just got these in today. FedEx was nice enough not to require a signature and just left them on my porch. This completes my Death / Funeral collection. I still need to upgrade a few but I can put more effort in the Return books.

That auction that sold for $172 looks like it was trimmed or something. If you look at the pics on the auction page, the word "advertisement" is cut off on each page.
It also has a white border on the cover.
-
Do the inserts in JLE 33 and Superman contain the full 16 pages of the promo?
Yeah all 16 pages are there. Looks like the only difference is "advertisement" is printed on the top of each of the pages.
-
$172? Poor sap. It pays to do your homework. So, the superman issue has the sonic promo as well?
Yes it does. I just double checked.
-
Best story would have to be "Placebo" from Dark Horse Presents 5th anniversary.
-
When I was 9, this was by far my favorite cover.
-
Just added this to my 2-pack collection.
-
Already have a 71 in universal and the 69 is the only one of the 3 JLA books I really like. Also I think I have another 80 or 3 that made the 9.8 cutoff. Will have to check later on.
The 3 JLA books are some of my favorites. Mainly because as a kid collecting this set, the three local stores that sold comics did not carry that title. It wasn't until a month or so after the books were released that my mom finally took me to a comic shop to get them. And at that point they were way above cover price.
About 10 years ago when I got back into comics, I had an obsession with buying these books. I just couldn't see passing up the books on ebay at such cheap prices compared to when I was a kid. After buying about 40+ of each, the novelty finally wore off.
-
No idea. I got a package in last night with 11 Death/Return of Superman books. My biggest order from CGC yet.
Just checked out your updated set. I'm jealous of the Superman 80; I've been searching for a high quality book to submit forever. No Justice League 70 or 71 submitted?
-
It's been out for 20 years so probably not going to drop all that much.
Its already dropped quite a bit. The first 9.8 universal sold on ebay for $1500, now there's one for $500 and its been re-posted a few times without a bid. As much as I would love to believe that a Jurgens sig brings the value up to $1199.00, it does not.

I finally found a Legacy of Superman 2nd Print. Only the second copy i've seen for sale in 5 years. Even received a nice thank you from seller:
"Thank you. Nearly a hundred of these comics were about to go into a friends woodburner. Look for more to come from 1st.bird. What doesn't sell is being trashed. Hope you enjoy your purchase."
At least I know why its so hard to find the later printings.

Print run on 75 platinum was 10,000. Not too sure on the 500.
Was it a retailer incentive based off orders? I remember my friend had to buy like 50-100 Sups 75 to get a platinum I think it was 50.
This is what I found in a Comic Buyers Guide from early December 1992. Not sure if this accounts for all 10,000 of the issues but it appears they were given out free.

Thibert and Stein would do too
Yeah I still need a Thibert and would love to upgrade my 9.0 Stern. Also keeping an eye out for Rodier. He was at the Montreal Comicon in 2010.
Superman Death-Return Print Variant Collection
in Modern Age Comic Books
Posted
Adventures of Superman 499 3rd print
2nd Print ( I'm starting to believe it does not exist)
Action Comics 686 2nd print
I believe these are the most difficult to find in any condition. As far as I know, they were only available in the 2 packs.
Superman 77 3rd print
Man of Steel 20 2nd print
Adventures of Superman 498 4th
These can be found in 2 packs as well as the boxed funeral sets, but still difficult enough to find.
