I understand the 5 printings of MOS 18 a lot more than the 3+ printings of the funeral books. The release of Superman 75 probably created an increased demand for all prior released books. Prior to Supes 75, all of the Doomsday storyline books had much lower sales. According to Diamond Comic Distributors this is where the books ranked in the top 100 books for each month. Sorry I can't find my Wizard 18 for the December numbers. And remember these numbers are only in comparison to other books sold that month. I wish there was more data available. I doubt they were books that were sent back. Many of the later printings appear to have been produced exclusively for these collectors packs. The books are sometimes damaged because they barely fit in the box, especially the funeral set. They look as if a drunk minimum wage employee missed the the opening a few times before he one hand shoved them into the box resulting in scuff marks on the outer covers, corner and spine damage, plus wrinkled pages. Interior books look good though.

Great Prices on Superman 75 Poly-bagged 9.8 and Superman 75 Platinum 9.6. I wish you would have posted a few days earlier. I would have grabbed the poly-bagged edition for my Jurgens submission. Only ended up submitting three books; I have no luck finding high quality raw 75's.

It varies slightly. Out of the four sets I've had that were open, three of them looked like this. Including the sealed one I opened myself. And just a heads up, don't assume you have mint books in the sealed box. I can assure you the guy that packed them was not a collector. 10,000 of Supes 75 , not sure on Adventures of Superman 500.

Yes. The UPC barcode version is very tough on most of these books (if they exist). I have my original newsstand set of 1st prints from when I was a kid. They're surprisingly in decent shape, not mint, but pretty good considering I was 9 at the time of purchase. As far as the later printings go, the only issue with barcode I'm aware of is the 4th printing of Supes 75. I'm sure there are others out there. Really haven't pursued that yet.

I never noticed it on MyComicShop's list before. I'll have to assume its real then. I doubted the existence of Action Comics 686 2nd print for years. Then it popped up on ebay.

I've searched everywhere for that info with no luck. All I know is that most of these later printings were packaged up and sold at large retail stores: Toys-R-Us, Kmart, etc. So the print runs couldn't have been that low.

I know I didn't include them but I am aware of and have at least one copy of all of these you listed except the Action 683 3rd Print. Some comic site had that listed but didn't have a scan. Do you know for certain this print exists?

For the last six years, I have been trying to assemble a complete Death –Return Saga collection including all of the variant printings. Every time I think I’m done, up pops a new printing. Yesterday I received a package containing what I thought was an Adventures of Superman 499 2nd print; it turned out to be a 3rd printing. I was excited with my new find despite the rough condition of the book but now I am on the hunt for a 2nd printing. Finding that 3rd print made me realize that my collection my not be as close to complete as I thought. I’ve included scans of all the various printings from the Death/Funeral storylines. I am aware of the Legacy or Superman 2nd Print but if you know of any additional printings of any of these issues please let me know. These just came in today. Hazlewood sigs from Austin Comic Con. I'm extremely happy with the grades considering it was a last minute decision to submit and the package was damaged in the mail.

After losing an auction for this set about five years ago, a sealed set finally popped up again.

One of the books from my LBCC Bogdanove submission. Nothing too impressive, but out of my 30 some Death/Funeral/Reign Saga SS books, this is the first lone top census.

He wasn't listed for there in this thread so I had no idea... They weren't listed on the website and no one mentioned that they would be there. Oh I'm not criticizing anyone for it, I checked the NYCC site regularly and never saw his name mentioned once so it's just disappointing to miss an unannounced appearance like that. A few years back at NYCC, Ordway signed as well only at the DC booth. He was only listed under the autograph link not guests or artist alley. And if I remember right they only announced it like a week or two before the con took place.
