  1. Now that's some fine overthinking right there Hep!
  2. Why would a finalist in the grading comp playoff need mere mortals to grade for him? 3.0 from this loser.
  3. And here's another one - alas I missed out on this one on eBay last week, but at least I snaffled the cover scan!
  4. It's uncommon, but not unheard of. Here's an Australian original book with the price in long form:
  5. Another day, another book. An eBay cheapy, but quite nice. Reprints of Stan Lee penned stories inside, but I can't find the cover on any US edition. It's an unusual size and aspect ratio, and about half the leaves are glossy paper, the rest are the usual newsprint. That's probably so they could print the 'frameable pinups' on glossy stock. Here's one of the pinups - quite well printed and on good quality stock. The paper in those leaves is still bright white.
  6. I think you know the answer to your question. Do it anyway.
  7. Here are a couple more Australian reprints, at least as far as the stories inside goes. I can't find the covers for either of these on US editions. The Hedy book is interesting. It's an unusual size and aspect ratio, and about half the leaves are glossy paper, the rest are the usual newsprint. That's probably so they could print the 'frameable pinups' on glossy stock. See my journal (linked in the sig) to see one of them. Pretty sure the CGC notes on this one would read 'Bondage cover - plus John Wayne b*** slapping some dude".
  8. I would totally read a Harry Lime review of ECs. Watch this space...
  9. Yes, I have the hardcover reprint from a few years ago. The 'preachies' are very good, and must have been pretty edgy at the time. One of them reads a lot like To Kill a Mockingbird, but predates it by several years.
  10. This has only been on my want list for six years. And here's the corresponding splash It was definitely not the case that there were very fine people on both sides...
  11. Does anyone know if it's possible to search for books on eBay worldwide in a way that shows you all the listings with the key words, even if the item is not available to your country? Example: if I search "australian comic" I find 100s of listings, but I can't see this one (which I know about b/c of a boardie) https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/332585202287?ViewItem=&item=332585202287 I can't get that one to show in any search I do. I tried logging into UK ebay, but that didn't work either.
  12. I think if it was solvent cleaned (which is probably the case for CGC to detect it in the first place) then it doesn't count as conserved. I think only dry cleaning gets a pass, but others might know better.
  13. Wouldn't have thought too many young fellows had five shillings to spend on comics in 1956. Perhaps that's why these are rare.
  14. Oh, I don't think I'm going to claim credit for the find. A very helpful boardie with a Bugs Bunny addiction spotted it for me.
  15. Yes, it's a great start. Another excellent resource (and it's free) is to sign up to Heritage Auctions (ha.com) site and browse hundreds of thousands of high-res scans of pretty well-graded comics.
  16. I got a big box o' goodness in the mail today. I've just started going through it. One of the big books (at the very least in terms of physical size) was this monster. Despite the obvious wear, it's solid and very readable. The highlights/headlights are 50 pages of Stanley Pitt's Silver Starr (see bottom rhc of cover), and some Phantom Lady reprints. I won't squish the book onto the scanner, but I'll try to get some photos tomorrow. Great stuff.
  17. I wonder if that would have made it into SOTI? No fewer than 8 of the CI line did, so I suspect it might have.
