  1. With no pics, no idea as to the size of the split, no idea as to the condition of the book, how can we possibly answer this question ? As with all flaws, there is no formula as to how much it affects the grade, it all depends on other factors. I would suspect that the term 'medium', when used by CGC, is probably bigger than one would think but who knows ?
  2. Based on his grading, I suspect he is not very good at detecting resto either. I think most of his books were purchased years ago and he simply owned it married all these years.
  3. Wow, that FF #50 looks exceptional ! Love all the White Pages !
  4. I agree, pressing isn't going to help this book at all. I am also puzzled why you had to pay for the grader's notes ? Regarding the resto, the notes say full right front cover. I suspect some of the cover will literally fall off if the tear seals are removed. Sorry but I think your book cannot be improved.
  5. Serious question. I always thought Ritchie was a full time comic dealer ? It was mentioned he retired. Retired from what ?
  6. That's an eclectic list. I like the IM 47 choice. Such an iconic cover !
  7. I agree, I think the old red label adds value. Some collectors, like myself, prefer unpressed books and will seek out red labels. I also concur with Joey that there is no guarantee of a grade bump, which could result in a big waste of time and money. Unless it's a high value key, I say don't bother.
  8. Yes, I concur on your point. However, the ripples I have seen are usually 'flexible'. The ripples on this book look 'stiff', like they experienced some water and have dried out.
  9. I actually found your purchase on E-Bay and the seller states he accepts Returns. Some personal advice, never buy a book with a signature on it that you plan on submitting. It doesn't work. A signature on a CGC submitted book must be witnessed. So, in this case, regardless of the interior rippling, I would return the book. I honestly don't know how CGC would view the rippling but I suspect it may land you in a 9.2 range. In any case, it would be a Green Label. I don't think this is the results you are looking for.
  10. You didn't mention the signature on the book. That signature will get you a Green Qualified Label. I suspect this book was over hydrated for a press and while the covers came out nice the inner pages suffered. In any case, get your money back. I would not submit this book.
  11. I used to own this very copy. Good to see it has stayed raw.
  12. This is the nicest copy of this book I have ever seen. Classic, grey tone, sci-fi cover. I always liked the fact that they gave you a definition of Sargasso Sea.
  13. Love me some Giant Hand covers ! This is all great stuff. You have an amazing collection.
  14. I agree with the previous evaluation, could be anywhere in the 6.5 - 7.5 range though I feel stronger about the higher end of that range. Really nice book ! That 'spot' over the N could be nothing but if it goes through the paper it will be considered a stain. CGC likes a nice spine and this spine looks excellent. This book would benefit from a press but I hate to see that nice spine flattened out. A spot pressing on the the top edge and corner would be best instead of a full press. BTW, I don't think that line will hurt the grade.
  15. You are correct and I know that. ZZutak's real name is Jay, I believe. And Mark Zaid is Esquire ? I just got lazy in my reply and didn't look up my quote. I thought I saw Zaid's name mentioned somewhere and thought he made the reply.
  16. I would definitely let the Boardie know but not make any demands. Let him decide if he wants work something out. As Mark Zaid pointed out, Qualified is not Restored though in this case, Married Cover, it is debatable. I really doubt that 95% of the Boardies here, myself included, would notice a Married cover so you have to assume he did not know. If it was a popped staple Qualified, IMO it would be on you, especially if you got it pressed. Also, IMO, 6 months is a reasonable time, not exceeding any arbitrary rule. IN any case, I hope he contacts you and works something out.
  17. Cons, auctions, sales threads, whatever, I believe in 'let the books come to you'. Trying to knock off a want list by looking for specific books is crazy.
  18. This is a great thread. Makes you realize all the cool books from that era. Lots of hype and gimmicks but still good times !
