  1. I don't see any point to grading Modern books unless you are going to sell them. Some of your books with higher valuation today may see a decline in the future, especially movie or television related hype. If you never submitted you may be in for a shock with the CGC grades returned. Most moderns need a 9.8 to be worth grading. If you do submit, try it on a small batch and only submit books that appear to be in perfect condition. As far as preservation, why do you think they will be better off in a slab ? IMO, mylar and a stiff backing board is much better for preservation, takes up a lot less space also.
  2. On 12/22/2017 at 5:50 PM, serling1978 said: I take it you didn't get it pressed? Count me in the camp that is confused. First you said you did not get it pressed but you sent it to CCS. Now you say it did get pressed. If you did get it pressed did the dent come out ? What about that color breaking crease. I suspect this book was a 'tweener' that on one submission got a 9.6 and next time got a 9.8 and pressing didn't matter.
  3. It's a scary thought if CGC is no longer noting detached cover on the label. This means we have to buy the notes for everything ?!? Perhaps we should inquire in the ASK CGC thread. Edit: I just posted this in the ASK CGC thread. Let's see if they answer. I hope it was a simple oversight.
  4. Interesting. Personally, I never saw a book graded that high with a detached cover but obviously I am wrong. Thanks for the info !
  5. Something is wrong. Detached covers do not get a Universal Grade of 4.0 . See my reply to the OP but a mistake was made and CGC should be contacted.
  6. I didn't think a book with a detached cover can grade as high as 4.0 . Usually they are in the 2.5 and below range. A few possibilities here, the label is wrong, maybe it should have been a green Qualified ? The grade is wrong, like somebody was thinking 4.0 Qualified or Blue 2.0 and made a typo ? OR, hopefully this is the correct answer, the notes are wrong or misleading. Perhaps the cover was not fully detached, maybe only at one staple ? In any case, something is wrong. If the cover is detached they should have put in on the label, this combined with the very high grade indicates something is amiss. Your call but the right thing to do is contact CGC and find out the facts. As it stands, Universal 4.0, with notes that say detached cover, should not be in the marketplace. I know you intend on keeping it but things change. I would be livid if I bought a book like this.
  7. I understand. Thanks for the response. Working under the assumption we will have to individually make requests to you, perhaps we can have a standardized format for our requests. A 'form' or template to utilize. Years ago, we would literally have to make a case for each request citing specific examples of sales. The chose of how many more points to assign was still with CGC. Gemma used to take a conservative approach and often the new points assignment were still woefully low, prompting yet another request for review, and waiting in the queue again. How can we do this right, make sure it is accurate the first time around ? How do you want our requests to look ? As mentioned, perhaps give us a format
  8. Without seeing it, knowing eye appeal, page quality, etc it's hard to say. You really should do your own research. You know what you have into it. Look at E-Bay sales, Heritage Sales, Comiclink sales, etc . IMO, the only way to truly ascertain value is to list it in auction.
  9. I just added a Silver Age book to my registry, FMV 750.00, Registry Points 23 . My point is that across the board, for most of the whole Registry, the point values are woefully outdated. Rather than us giving specific requests to you, and you manually enter them one at a time, why not have a process that first sweeps the whole registry with some kind of formula ? Otherwise, this will be an impossible task.
  10. Just got these today, all 10 cent DC's, listing them Greggy style.........................
  11. I really think it was already like this when it hit the press. Looks like a handling issue to me.
  12. I don't like the looks of the right edge. It may be a bad pic angle but it looks crooked and I always think of a possible trimming. The pages look CR/OW at best. The picture is very bright and the pages still look orange. That looks like tanning on the BC edge. I don't like the looks of this book and I would not purchase it.
  13. That GPA data you quoted is very stale. Now that we are in post movie, last sale means nothing from the beginning of the year. I don't think GPA data should be used for pricing raw books. The OP should really be looking at E-Bay sales instead. Not sure how the Boards currently feel about asking for GPA quotes but they used to jump all over someone that either asked or replied for info.
  14. GPA is for graded comics only ?
