  1. I liked JSC’s art in the 90s to early 2000s, but he’s phoned it in with many of his covers for years, particularly with very repetitious female figure work and a more exaggerated style.
  2. I’d be concerned about manipulation. For example, it could have been trimmed into shape using a craft knife, rather than being in its original condition out of the packet, although I suspect that CGC could detect this alteration using black light.
  3. They must be waiting for some film news before pouncing.
  4. I agree. He clearly doesn’t know his comics. For just $1,000, you could also pick up his ‘Bald Eagle on a Branch’. Although, to me, it looks more phallic than perched in a tree. Pareidolia is fun.
  5. Much prefer LOSH. The only World’s Finest story by him that I recall fondly is The Composite Superman, which is not too surprising. The run I’m least familiar with, though.
  6. Not too pleased to see it’s copied from an In Memoriam illustration.
  7. My favourites are the Curt Swan Legion of Super-Heroes issues.
  8. That’s the material I was often exposed to when I started collecting. He was prolific in the 70s. But, I survived.
  9. I used to enjoy the Superman Family 100 pagers as a kid back in the mid 70s. Great reprints.
  10. In middle age I seem suddenly to have developed a much stronger appreciation of Kirby’s work, including his 70s stories at DC and Marvel, and his incredible creativity. I’m currently reading his Jimmy Olsen run, coincidentally. A lot like going back to when I first saw it in the seventies, but somehow connecting to the energy in his artwork even more, and just going along with the often over-the-top concepts, characters and stories. I’d find my own Mister Miracle run tough to let go; more so now.
  11. Simon and Kirby’s Golden Age art style did tend to favour wiry-looking heroes with zero body fat.
  12. I don’t see much wrong with Kamala’s costume. It does look based on conventional Arabic Muslim design under the super-heroine embellishments. My area of England has a large Muslim Asian population, and I’m possibly more familiar with this type of clothing.
  13. To allow for more characters, the cover should’ve been wraparound or gatefold like the 90s Jim Lee X-Men 1, then there would be plenty of space for everyone’s favourites, new and old, and then we’d all be happy. Apparently there is a ‘Collage Variant’ cover, but it’s an absolute mess to look at.
  14. Tie-ins to existing or upcoming film or TV projects, along with Ms Marvel. And, popular characters.
  15. It does capture that warm, cosy, radiant feeling you get from a great comic book. As opposed to a really bad one...
  16. I wondered if it had been updated.
  17. An excellent but actually very short run.
  18. Good suggestion. A primer for Joker stories from the Golden Age through to the 80s, unless it’s been updated since I last read it.
  19. I concur. One of my all-time favourite comic books.
  20. Batman 251 Death in the Family (Batman 426 to 429) The Man Who Laughs one-shot
  21. It’s also more heavily influenced by Akira Kurosawa’s classic ‘The Hidden Fortress’. I stand corrected once again with Ellison vs Cameron.
  22. Yup. Always a problem. I recommend a good multivitamin supplement. Or, at least, some Vitamin C.
