  1. 40s Eisner’s Spirit or Cole’s Plastic Man 50s Weird Science 60s Fantastic Four 70s Claremont / Byrne X-Men 80s Love and Rockets 90s Hellboy or Starman (James Robinson version) 00s Captain America by Brubaker That’d do.
  2. Thanks. The boards have some very supportive individuals. I’ve always liked that about this place, and your concern is much appreciated.
  3. Yup. Xenozoic Tales. Disappointed myself. As an EC science-fiction comic fan, I should’ve recalled that one. A bit dense today.
  4. Great choice. Did occur to me, but I’ve only ever read it in graphic novel format, rather than serialised in RAW magazine. Nonetheless, a masterpiece.
  5. That’s a great series. Always felt Gruenwald was a bit underrated as a writer.
  6. I missed them too. Didn’t realise. And I’m British.
  7. A costume heavily influenced by Dr Fate’s.
  8. I agree. They’ve just been phoning it in for a while now. People often move on when they’re deprived of the excitement and quality formerly associated with a very focused creative force, be that movie franchises, music, whatever. It’s natural, fair weather erosion of the fan base.
  9. Mix up about him being his and Wanda’s father, but in the end he wasn’t.
  10. He was versatile, and could draw in a more cartoony style as well, such as his work on L'il Abner.
  11. More in agreement that Batman has been very consistently readable for a very long time, especially mid-80s onwards for me too. Also good stuff well before then, of course, that’s a given, but maybe patchier for me outside the obvious O’Neil / Adams / Englehart / Rogers / Goodwin / Aparo highlights.
  12. I’d go earlier than that, especially the Grant / Breyfogle / Moench / Jones material. Starlin was quite readable as well.
  13. I fondly remember the run of Conans I got from my first comic mart in the late 70s. Hope you enjoy the books.
  14. Occasional fill-in issues are difficult to avoid.
  15. How long did Carl Barks write and draw Donald and Scrooge for? Perhaps not as continuous issues, but quite a long haul.
  16. For me, 90 is at least as well-written, drawn and poignant as 121 / 122. It’s a great comic.
  17. Basically my disinterest about influencers. Why would I want to be manipulated, controlled, led on, potentially misled, whatever words you substitute, by one distant opinion?
  18. As long as this material is sturdy enough to withstand a bear attack, I see no real problems.
  19. Yup. Another one I'd thought about - a classic indie, but not one I'd suspect many would choose when up against ASM, FF or X-Men. Which is a shame. I agree with you. Fantastic series.
  20. Now that Mad’s been posted, it’s only fair to mention a British publication which has been even more consistently hilarious, the brilliant Viz Comic.
