Yes they are failures because they failed time and time again to make any real strides to become a legitimate threat when CGC has allowed them to come in.  CGC is WWE and they are WCW.  Eventually WCW went under, and bought by WWE.  Heck even WCW put up a valiant fight.  So that Voldey has been useless.  I would love a true comic grading company WAR!  Like we did with the Monday Night Wars of the late 90's.  Consumer wins when that happens!

No major dealer uses them to sell big books on a consistent basis.

Their verified signature program has proven to not-trustworthy.

That 10-20% gap has been that way since they opened up shop so let me know when they close that gap and I will gladly start submitting to them as well.

Everyone can agree competition is good thing, I am just waiting for a real company to actually show up to challenge them. So far nothing in 24 years. 2c

I disagree. True, they are currently wasting resources doing what appear to be illegal things, but a case like this would help nullify the bad image they've developed of late, and it would be a fairly easy win for them.

I agree to disagree.  That "bad image", in other words, credibility, has been completely nuked over the previous 8 years.

Here's what I base my statement on that the FBI will be (likely already is) involved - from CGC's statement: In addition to the initiatives described above and as previously reported, we have also retained a leading private investigative service and outside counsel to conduct a comprehensive review of this incident and our processes, and to help ensure that this individual is held accountable to the fullest extent of the law.

Admittedly, the rest of what I've written is speculation based on my experience because performing investigations like the one that CGC says it has undertaken, and cooperating with law enforcement like the FBI, is what I do for a living. So I should be clear that I haven't been given any inside information, but I'm writing what I would expect to happen based on my experience doing this.

My statement that CGC will turn the books over to the FBI is because the FBI will need to preserve the chain of custody since the books are evidence, and if CGC cracks the books then it could taint the chain of custody and render the books unhelpful in a case against whoever did this. It's also based on my experience that all the online marketing of these books, and the use of the USPS and other carriers to deliver books that are sold, makes it a federal crime. And in my experience and opinion it's absolutely a federal crime. This person didn't "exploit a loophole". They knowingly and intentionally used false pretenses to turn less-valuable books into more-valuable books, and then marketed them as those more-valuable books - which in reality they were not. This is all wire fraud, and a lot of it. Each book is its own crime, and it's a serious matter.

Have you not followed the "reported stories" on the FBI on a federal level over the last 6-7 years?  Maybe local gets involved. no way federal does anything.  This gets buried.

I am still waiting on all these supposed "easy to crack/switch" Youtube videos to surface. (shrug)

Bob, Nick Sirianni will learn to run the ball against a terrible team that is the worst against the run before we see the above.

You know Nick Sirianni is probably behind this comic book scam, I mean why not he scammed us with thinking the Eagles were a 10-1 team at one point.

    Off-comics-topic, thanks for the laugh

Take it easy Rob.  This is at best a few hundred books or at worst a few thousand.  CGC knows who this guy is and they'll track down the books he submitted and make it right and address the issues he exposed.  Could there be other people pulling this scam?  Maybe but let's not panic until we have proof.

I have a lot of slabs and I'm not worried.  CGC has graded a lot of books and relatively this is a pimple on a moose.

"This is at best a few hundred books or at worst a few thousand"

Books, as in comic book issues, not necessarily copies, correct?

I don't have all of my books back, but of the 20 I have received only 4 came back with the full name signature

Just curious - would like to know from anyone willing to respond:

    1.  How many books did you send in for TM to sign?

    2.  How many came back with full name "Todd McFarlane" signature vs how many came back with "T. McFarlane" ?

6, 1 came back full sig.

Ugh, I'm worried my books are all going to be in the second round after the market tanks, I sent them in in early September but the case cracker at CSS lost (they called me) them for 6 weeks so they didn't show as received until November.

Do you mean the debt market tanking:shiftyeyes:

Thank you for the response. Much appreciated. Yes, I did check that status with both my shipping agent and through CGC. Both show they have received it. I am familiar with the waiting process. I've had books there for almost a year in past submissions, but eventually they have all come back. I am disappointed I didn't figure out a way to leave Todd a message for ink color preferences and or location. Fingers crossed he takes care of me. LOL

I included 4 Marvy deco paint pens, each pen factory sealed, with requests for color on each comic.  The pens can be used until the ink is gone on other submissions (hoping if this happens per request, as long as the staff takes proper care and time for the sigs to properly dry).  Paint pens pop so much more than the boring sharpies on everything in the history of sigs. This is not rocket science.

What are my chances?  One in one-million?

Paint pens tend to stay wet for a long time. Good luck with your sig not smudging and I hope my book doesn't get piled on top of yours.

They do, and I have no idea how fast this whole thing will be signed and processed in real time, but considering that this is the premier, professional grading service for comics, and the costs and expected TAT involved, I would anticipate the handlers should know how to care for and slab/pack every comic with care, ensuring ink is dry with each book.

Serious question:  is this too much to realistically expect?

  10. I'm new here, submitted a few comics for TM with requests for color, and included 4 unused decocolor paint pens (white, blue, red and silver).  The decocolor are superior and really pop on any material.  Red and Blue esp. contrast well with most comic covers compared to sharpie paint pens.

Anyway, I included a request for white decocolor on my silver polybagged S-M #1.  I know it's a long-shot but had to take a chance.  What's another $26 spent on paint pens when the total cost for this exceeds $700?
