  1. The second group of auctions end tomorrow night. STRANGE TALES #101, Apparent CGC 9.0 VFNM STRANGE TALES ANNUAL #1, CGC 8.0 VF, BETHLEHEM PEDIGREE STRANGE TALES ANNUAL #2, CGC 7.0 FVF TALES TO ASTONISH #37 , Apparent CGC 9.6 NM+
  2. Yes, Jerry was here. Harley Yee also snagged a collection that was not shopped locally. The best book was a beaten up X-Men #1. The owner contacted dealers in the OSPG instead of shopping it here. I am certain I would have paid more for it.
  3. The show was fun. Sales were brisk Friday and Saturday, and on Sunday they took a dip since the crowd was predominantly Dr. Who fans there to see the most popular Dr. Who TV series actor (don't remember his name ). It was an interesting crowd - normally you will see patterns of what is hot/in demand over multiple day shows, but this one was all over the place. One day you had the latest Artgerm cover variants (Catwoman 3, for example) sell as fast as you put them out, and the next day they were ice cold and did not sell. People had trouble finding our new location at first which was a bit of a nuisance, but I put in a request to be located next to Comicage, Harley Yee and Jerry Ross next year so hopefully we will be back in the other hall. I do not mind going head to head with them since our grades and prices will be better.
  4. I did not care for DD - I was bored after episode 4 of season 1 and have not returned to it. The story of every episode is fairly predictable, and I bet that as the show runs along it will lose viewers. Cage and Jessica Jones did not do much for me either and I stopped them after a couple of episodes. I have not tested Punisher yet, and will likely give it a chance sooner or later. I do agree with you on the DC TV shows becoming repetitive after a couple or three seasons as well. My kids and I stopped watching them all last season and have not bothered going back.
  5. Had a fun chat with a local collector at the Edmonton Expo this past weekend. He asked what a Hulk #181 CGC 9.8 Marks Jeweler's insert would be worth in the current market since he has one. I said $30-40K in the current market. What do you guys think?
  6. No worries and thanks. I am sending in all of the other keys for grading. The TOS 39 is a crying shame - their is a small piece/chip out of the bottom right corner. It looks much nicer otherwise.
  7. No. It was a 1584 book collection that came from a local collector who used to buy books from me late 90s through early 00s. He said he picked up these restored books on eBay in the early 00s. The collection was primarily SA Marvel, with a smattering of GA and some DC SA books.
  8. I have a few books from a new collection purchase up on CLink this month. INCREDIBLE HULK #2, Apparent CGC 9.0 VFNM JOURNEY INTO MYSTERY #83, Apparent CGC 9.2 NM- STRANGE TALES #101, Apparent CGC 9.0 VFNM STRANGE TALES ANNUAL #1, CGC 8.0 VF, BETHLEHEM PEDIGREE STRANGE TALES ANNUAL #2, CGC 7.0 FVF TALES TO ASTONISH #37 , Apparent CGC 9.6 NM+
  9. Were you one of the pump and dumpers on some of the books? Take a look at the sales numbers and you can see why books died. Some had creator issues, but most tanked due to speculators moving to the next title.
  10. Marvel has not had a better track record with the TV shows or animated films. That is the one area that WB/DC has done a better job over the years. It will be interesting to see if this holds up.
  11. They died as soon as the Image speculators left for the next title. That is basically why Image saw a spike in overall sales for a couple of years. I am glad that the creators were able to cash in at the start at least, even though the majority of titles were done before issue #10.........
  12. And the way he did it is this - scout it out and have you put the books aside on Thursday, haggle/hassle for two days, then after running down the condition and pricing he bought it on Sunday morning........
  13. Likely, but TMNT #1 took a dip and was cold for a while as well.
  14. It is hard to top the season premiere from a couple of seasons ago when Lucille met Glen and Abraham. That was likely the peak for shock TWD television. Still, 11.4 million viewers is better than I thought it would be based on the number of people I know who just binge-watch the season at the end instead of tuning in for each episode.
  15. Just a couple of days to go before the show. Here are the rest of the pics from the collection that I will be lugging to the Expo:
  16. I know they cram a lot into these movies but how could the main thrust of Avengers 4 be the Skrulls? Don't they need to spend the whole movie beating Thanos, and then maybe have the Skrulls reveal themselves at the end to set up Avengers 5 or something? They could have Thanos really being a skrull in disguise and deal with both at the same time?
  17. There must have been something else noticeably wrong with the book (maximum gift grade? ). OW/W is not a $4500 - $5000 price difference.
  18. The titles you mentioned are Image books, and when the pump and dump crowd started losing $$$ and left the threads they died. If you go back and read the threads, most of the posts were from people that had speculated on the books and were talking them up here on the boards and elsewhere in an attempt to cash in. Remember Bedlam, Nailbiter, Black Acre, Sheltered, etc.? In those threads, the number of comments from the top posters about how much they liked the book was directly correlated to the number of copies of #1 they were sitting on.
  19. Wow. According to GPA, this CGC 9.4 copy sold for $5,593 on September 13: Certification Information Certification #: 0948528001 Title: Incredible Hulk Issue: 181 Issue Date: 11/74 Issue Year: 1974 Publisher: Marvel Comics Grade: 9.4 Total Graded At: 507 Page Quality: OFF-WHITE TO WHITE Grade Date: 03/30/2009 Category: Universal Art Comments: Len Wein story Herb Trimpe & Jack Abel art Herb Trimpe cover Key Comments: 1st full appearance of Wolverine. Wendigo appearance.
  20. I have the opposite view. I think Shazam will run the risk of being seen as a Marvel-like rip off, while Aquaman will benefit from Wan and Mamoa doing fine in the role in Justice League. Most of my friends, whether Marvel and DC fanboys, are taking the same initial stance. They were not impressed with the Shazam trailer as it seemed to be trying to have humor much too hard. I did not care for it since I like my hero films to be darker and more serious (like the Nolan Batman trilogy or Infinity War as a heavy film for Marvel). That being said, if kids like it then it will do well at the box office just like any other popular film targeted at the under 13 crowd. Kids will want to see it which means parents will have to go as well = $$$$$.
  21. I will neither confirm nor deny that comment.......
  22. You are definitely in the better room. Expect to have Harley and George come by to buy stuff off you during set up.
  23. The other big vintage comics dealers that we used to be located by - Harley Yee (814), Comicage (802), and JigglyPig (322) - are still in F. They stayed in basically the same spot. Red Skull and some of the others are more focused on trades and modern books, as well as tons of Funko Pops. Being across from Red Skull is a bit of an issue as well if they do their normal set up with walls all around their booth - they block out the view of booths behind them. I guess Tony/Ultimate Key Comics is with us in E, but he has been there the past few years. We will have to wait and see how this goes, I guess, and then change things for next year. Hopefully all of the new stuff we have picked up over the summer will be enough to attract the crowds in the new location.
