Does anyone store low value comics in bags only?
universal soldier replied to MutantMike's topic in Comics General
With the exception of coverless and some real rags, all my comics are induvidually bagged and boarded. I'm in the process of converting everything over to mylar and acid free backing boards. Everything I've bought since 2009 is already in mylar as that is when I made the call. My intent is to never have to go through this again as some of the poly bags from the 80's and 90's are stickly like not wearing underwear on a humid day. -
I'm hoping to be largely "out" of my collection in 15 years so seems that I'm going to time it just right . I'm treating it like a long term investment and hoping to realize a 20% return. Is that realistic? Certainly obtainable for my early OO collection that I paid 25-60 cents a book for, not so much with the run of the mill moderns, so hopefully there is some type of balance in there. I'm hoping to make up that difference in the higher end books I do own. I'm never going to get rich off my collection, I'm just a small fish in a really big pond. Fascinating thread though, and quite interesting to see all the red in the recent sales. I likely have overpaid for a few books in the past three years, so far the larger $$ ones I waited until late 2022/early 2023 to purchase seem to be maintaining or only realizing a small drop off.

Asteroids was my jam back in the day and could play for hours on one quarter. I miss the cigarette burns on the control deck ! Two other favorites were Robotron 2084 and Dragon's Lair.

universal soldier replied to TupennyConan's topic in Bronze Age Comic Books
This is right when I started at about 10 years old. I believe that my first issue was #171 but there may have been one in the late 160's. -

Some finds in the wild plus a board thread here. Luke Cage is lower grade but the FF is a nice upgrade from my OO copy. -
Any other Luke Cage fans out there?

Travelled down to Putnam CT yesterday to check out a couple places that I had heard about/driven by. Not a very successful trip but I did grab this for cheap. -

If I recall correctly, this was the first Luke Cage book I ever bought. It's a bit beat but I was 10 when I picked it up so it's well read -
I'm still scratching my head over that Shcoking Mystery coming back at a 5.0. With that much chipping/missing pieces and then the silver fish damage I just can't see it. I looked at the book being about a 5.5 before taking away for the silverfish, staining, minor rust migration etc... Did I over compensate for the silverfish? I looked at it like missing pieces.

5 points same as last round. I knew the Shocking Mystery was trouble and should have gone with my gut on the Prize Comics as I wanted to bump it down to a 7.0 last minute. Prize Comics #8 - 7.5 +1 Thing #15 - 3.0 +1 Shocking Mystery Cases #51 - 4.0 +2 Fantastic Fears #5 - 4.5 Romantic Hearts #9 - 3.5 +1
