  1. Thanks guys. I got it yesterday - 8/20 (Sat), sorry typo.

Nick spent quite a lot of time on it. I was walking in the artist alley area and he spent an hour or so on it (on and off I am sure, but still a lot of time for a con sketch). The sketch is super detailed in person.

  2. There are also signed versions of Q&W #0 and #1.

Quantum and Woody #0. Signed by MD Bright and Christopher Priest. Unnumbered. Wizard COA.

Quantum and Woody #1. Signed by MD Bright and Christopher Priest per COA but only Christopher Priest signed. Numbered 154 of 500. Dynamic Forces COA.

  4. Posted before but...

Despite my active & passive Valiant collecting (and occasional hoarding) over the last 20+ years, I remain 14 books short of a full VH1 set.

One of those books I was never able to get was Chaos Effect Alpha (Red).

I can, however, console myself with this:

    ChaosEffectAlpha.jpg

Even hard to find the signed version with original retailer letter.

  5. Why is this in the copper section? And why did I discover this thread just now? :D

Probably because when Valiant kicked off production with even its pre-hero line, it was at the tail-end of the Copper Age.

In that case, here are some pre-Hero items:

The Best of the Nintendo Comics System hardcovers (Valiant spine and Mallard Press spine variants)

For those members who are also active VF.com members, you have seen this already. I recently got this on eBay from a vintage apparel seller and am trying to get more info about it. It seems to be the only one that has surfaced so far. I sent an email to KC Caps and have not received a response (not surprisingly).

Acclaim Shadowman baseball cap with adjustable buckle and snap closure. Embroidered with Shadow Man on front and Acclaim on back. The tag says HeadShots by KC Caps. Made in Bangladesh. RN#89449 (H&C Headwear Inc. based in Carson, CA). It looks great and it is in like-new condition. Does anyone have any info on this? May be it's a prototype or promo item? :?

  7. Guys, here is my crazy theory on Alpha.

In the last issue it seemed crazy how fast Alpha was getting things done, like dealing with Rick, the decapitations, and infiltrating the fair. So then she drops some clues in her narrative about her group needing an Alpha and a Beta. What if she has a twin sister? Her belt is the snake symbol of the infinity or the Alpha and Omega. Her necklace also shows a similar design. I think the Alpha talking to Rick in 144 is Lydia's mom, that is why she cries for a second, but she snaps back into the persona shared with her twin to keep the ruse up.

    Thoughts? I'm nuts?

i think you are right... :whee:

That would confuse the true 1st appearance even more . . . :ohnoez:lol

  8. Here's a set of Upper Deck Valiant Era Trading Cards in Wooden Box. Only 100 of these wooden boxes were made (plus a few proofs, I think). They were given out to various Valiant employees and creators. This is #52/100 originally owned by Valiant artist Joe St Pierre. Signed by Joe St Pierre at bottom of wooden box. This limited edition set was given away at release party at Chicago Comics Convention on 7/2/1993.

Includes: Bloodshot Retailer Chrome (x6), Upper Deck Pyramid hologram card, Valaint Era Series 1 Unseen Art inserts U1 to U9, Valaint Era Series 1 base cards #1-120, Turok Retailer Chrome, Ninjak Retailer Chrome, Predator vs Magnus Robot Fighter #3 (x2)

  9. Man seeing all these posts with images of the Valiant letters and variants brings back a ton of memories when I was with Diamond. I wish I had the Armstrong Ale and Darque Brew that Valiant had sent me, over the years I parted with most of my Valiant stuff. I had all the retailer exclusive stuff, etc and multiple copies of each as well. But I thank those for posting their images here, lots of fond memories.....

    Here's a set I picked up several years ago . . .

Armstrong Ale. Complete with original box and Valiant holiday card.

  10. The bronze X-O ring is the most common of all but it's still pretty hard to track down. All the other ones rarely show up for sale, with the silver ones being EXTREMELY difficult to locate.

  11. This is one of the more unique items in my collection - a used softball jersey that belonged to Acclaim editor Madeleine E. Robins. She was an editor at Acclaim Comics for about 3 years for Armed and Dangerous, Magnus Robot Fighter, Shadowman and other titles.

According to Bernard Chang, there were 3 official softball jerseys:

the first version were the old bloodshot (green sleeved) jerseys with number printed on the back.

the second version, which is the one sported in the pictures you posted, have everything sewn on a black-pinnstriped cotton jersey.

the third and last was a red-pinnstripped cotton jersey with "acclaim comics" screen-printed on the front.

there was also a valiant cap, which was part of the valiant line of clothes.

Below is the email exchange tracking down the history of the jersey:

    Hi,

This may be a weird question but were you an editor at Acclaim Comics? If so, do you know anything about this Acclaim softball jersey? I am trying to track down the history and wonder if you know. The other Acclaim "Robins" is Clem Robins so I am going to check with him as well.

    Thanks,

    Iggy

Hi, yes, I was an editor at Acclaim for about three years (and yes, I had an Acclaim softball jersey because I was on the team; one of my daughters has it now).

My brother Clem did some art for me in the Classics Illustrated line, but in comics he's better known in the industry for his fine lettering.

    That make it all plain?

    Best,

    Madeleine

Madeleine E Robins -> her daughter -> San Francisco thrift shop -> San Francisco buyer -> San Francisco buyer moves to New York -> sells on eBay to me (who is in the San Francisco Bay Area) -> research to determine jersey belonged to Madeleine E Robins

  12. Speaking of winning Valiant comic books.....way back in the days of when Wizard Magazine was popular, my brother and I quickly solved and sent in a Star Wars word puzzle thing (if memory serves correct) and we ended up being the winners of their Unity give away. I still have the congratulations letter from Wizard and a couple of the issues from the Unity set.

I would've much rather won some gold issues like you guys, but that wasn't the prize. I had to search hard back when they came out to get my hands on an Eternal Warrior 1 gold and a Rai 9 gold.

That letter from Wizard is probably more valuable to a Valiant collector than the books (even if they were gold).

There were very few official Valiant letters (or Valiant-sponsored letters like Wizard prizes) that survived,

so collectors generally pay a premium when they can get something that ties directly to the early Valiant offices.

Few that survived? I would think everyone who ever won would have kept their letters as a special prize. Then again, they might have been kids like me back then.....

Right, but did they print 100,000 letters? Because they printed 100,000 copies of books (on average). If there are even 200 letters, that's 1:500 ratio.

    I got a few original letters :P

This one I got directly from Valiant back in the 90s. I received the Ninjak #1 gold variant with the following letter. Also included were James Perham's business card and a chromium card.

    Valiantbusinesscard-JamesPerham.jpg

I also picked up these up over the years . . .

Chaos Effect Red Alpha signed by Bernard Chan with Retailer Letter.

    ChaosEffectAlphaRedretailerVVSS.jpg

This early Valiant marketing package includes a red Valiant folder, an original letter signed by Seymour Miles, the marketing plans for May to Dec 1992 with 25 pages of material, 2 gold books, and 2 H.A.R.D.Corps #1 preview posters (black and blue versions).

The 25-page marketing plans brochure was used for the Diamond Sales Seminar on June 15th 1992. It can be viewed here: http://www.valiantfans.com/Valiant1992Marketing.pdf
