  1. Really appreciate your insight into the process. What happens if the final grader disagrees with the prescreen grade? Is it then sent to reject status right after, or is it looked at once more? Also, is the final grader given a box that says they are all X prescreens? If this is the case, this would save time for the final grader, but it feels like the process would be more neutral if the final grader was not aware of the prescreen grade until after the books have been graded... this would mean any grade given would be unbiased, whether it be below the prescreened grade, or spot on/higher.
  2. But the grader is separate from the prescreener, correct? If a prescreener approves a book as a 9.6, would the grader then have a mindset that the book should be around a 9.6? It is interesting to me, since we all know how subjective grading is. So I am curious what happens if a book is approved for a 9.6 prescreen but the actual grader mentally deems the book a 9.4
  3. Say I sent in 10 books to be prescreened for a 9.6. After the prescreener looks at them, will the grader see that the books all were 9.6 prescreens? Or will the grader not know what grade the prescreen was for? I know that books can be graded higher than prescreen grade, but if the grader is aware of the prescreen grade beforehand, it leaves me to wonder if there can be some influence on the final grade.
  4. Thanks for the inputs. I am actually a bit surprised as it seemed higher grade to me.
  5. Overall it is a nice looking book, but I noticed very small/faint brown circles in some areas. Would this be foxing?
  6. It likely is the art showing through then, at least the majority contributing factor. Thanks for pointing out that it extends down.
  7. Just curious, is yours a newsstand or direct? I haven't seen in much if any on the direct editions, so just curious.
  8. Unfortunately I don't have a copy with me to check what's on the first page. But I am checking eBay right now and lo and behold, some copies on there have it as well. This one is a bit more pronounced:
  9. Yeah, that's a good descriptor of it. It's not a circular "spot" necessarily, it's more like a vertical area of discoloration/light brown color next to his leg. On the Heritage site I looked through about 10 or so copies, and only these 3 were noticeable to me. So not a majority, but a decent amount.
  10. Not all copies have it as well, which is why I was intrigued by it.
  11. Here you go, have circled the areas I am referring to. These are 3 different 9.8's from Heritage; I can post the links to them but would need to go back to my history to find them.
  12. I was looking at some 9.8 newsstand 252s, and noticed that a good amount of them had this discolored area near spidey's leg. Anyone have some insight as to what caused this? And I assume CGC is cognizant of this and doesn't deduct for it when grading?
  13. I'm interested in sending in some books with prescreen and am wondering how the charge process works. Will I get one charge initially when the prescreen has occurred for rejects and another one afterwards for the grading fees? Or will I just get 1 total charge?
  14. Does prescreen actually add days to a submission? I want to do a prescreen for some moderns, but if the wait time is a lot longer, I'll pass on it. I've been getting moderns graded in about a week recently.
  15. Here is an example: https://www.cgccomics.com/certlookup/4234913003/ Maybe, but I thought scans were only emailed to the submitter. If this is a new thing it's really neat.
  16. I was searching some recently graded books and noticed scans of the books on the certificate lookup page. Only on some books though like an ASM 300 9.6 - so not sure if it's just for higher cost books? I have never noticed this before and think if this is going to be a normal thing now it would be great to have.
  17. Nice picture! Did you adjust any settings after setup?
  18. Interesting, how can you see those archives? I only know how to see Heritage and eBay sales
  19. Sometimes I see modern books graded a 9.8 and still have grader's notes... I am wondering if these books were possibly submitted in express tier instead of modern. I have submitted many books under modern and have not once gotten grader's notes on a 9.8 - what are your guys' experiences?
  20. I also wonder, does CGC differentiate between color rub during manufacturing and after being shipped out?
