I hope he is doing well and stays away from here.  

If that's the case, then I would dump the book.  There are legitimate keys out there to "invest" in than to dump money on a book that is only hot due to speculator hype.  

I'm curious what makes this a "key"?  Is it because it's a #1?  Movie/TV announcement?

I don't know much about cryptocurrency, but don't you need to have a pass code or something to access your crypto wallet?  Seeing how Gabe's life is a constant downward spiral, I can see him losing this information which will result in the next hilarious chapter of his "story".

Were your parents selling and buying a new home every time they moved or did they keep the house while they moved?  Maybe things are different in Canada, but you mentioned that your dad was unemployed due to a work related injury so he had no money coming in.  Wouldn't this be a huge red flag for banks if your parents tried to take a loan out for a house?

I thought you mentioned that your family was poor and that your parents were struggling to make rent which is why they were having you help with their rent.  I guess they came a long way from barely able to make rent a few years back to being home owners.  Oh, didn't your family move in the last couple years?
