    thanks for the help?

they should not affect the grade as they were made in the books printing process. the ink smudges are usually easy to remove with a red eraser from a pencil. be very careful not to touch any other inks as you will remove those and that may affect the grade. the staple came that way.

    san francisco!!

I'm so glad you have that book, Jamie! I owned it for years. I bought it for less than $100 from Carl Macek at a Houston Con in either '79 or '80. Sold it in 2003 after picking up a super nice non pedigree for less money than I could sell the SF for at the time. I still miss it though. It was my favorite book for almost all of the time that I had it.

i can't remember where i got it from...who did you sell it to?

  3. That's my old copy on the left. :cloud9:

    are you serious?????????

Won it in a ComicConnect auction in 2010. Sold it to a board member in 2012.

Yep. And I sold it to Graham Crackers last weekend in St. Louis.

geez...i get no respect around here! that book is well traveled at least! it has seen more states than i have!

  4. Seeing the thread about the "trimmed" Marvel Mystery made me want to post my Cap 39 which is badly mis-cut and mis-bound. All other Timely's I own are about 1/3 of an inch larger than the Cap.

The interior pages are not large enough (see pictures 2 and 3) and some of the art is cut due to this.

On top of this 2 centerfolds are slightly larger then the other pages and are creased (see picture 4).

I'm wondering if mis-cuts like this occurred often in WW2 Timely's or not (I'm no specialist on the subject).

    von hammer,

nice book. remember comics are mass produced. anything can happen in the process of printing and binding! remember they were considered throw away entertainment long ago.

i collect oddities like that book..bring it to SD..or you may not get in!! (insert evil laugh here)
