Some of the nicest creators I've met were those pictured below: Pablo Marcos, Allen Bellman, and Ron Wilson. I wouldn't call any of them among my "hero creators", but I will say that Marvel 2-In-1 Annual #7 pencilled by Ron Wilson is among my favorite comic books.

Other creators that I always had great interactions with that come to mind are: Neal Adams, Bob Camp, Dave DeVries, Mike Perkins, Arvell Jones, Joe Giella, Carl Potts, Khoi Pham, Sean Chen, and Mike Mayhew.

Wow you got to meet Allen Bellman!  He recently passed.  One of the great artists of early timely. http://allenbellman.com/

He did a lot of captain america, bucky, young allies, human torch namor in the early days ... as in back in World War 2!!

I went with the Tales of Suspense 52 in there end it’s low grade,  but that’s my level which I’m happy with. I think I will get it pressed and graded to preserve 👍🏻😊. I probably will still e Dan up getting the Doctor Voodoo comic 😂

good buy man congrats! i would have picked TOS too.  a classic

  3. As far as buying during a low market/ buyers market:

does it make sense on moderns to go for lower grades that drop more in value during a low/bear market?

for example a 9.2 drops a lot more could that be a better deal in long run and you try to resell during next comic bull run. Vs a 9.8 that doesn’t have significant “discount” during recessions?

Then during the bull run the 9.8 has a smaller increase

im just throwing thoughts out there

  4. Hello I know it's personal preference, but I'm trying to get organized and keep my comics safe, organized etc.

Any vets out there care to share their comic book storage solutcitions?

I dig the BCW plastic bins-- seem a little stronger than cardboard

I also got some cloth covered foldable bins from Amazon, they were nice looking, BUT they smell horrible like formaldehyde and chemicals, so I'm not using those.  They are generic Chinese brands.

Any recommendations on cataloging, Graded vs non-graded (slab/board) comics?

Or anyone want to share pictures of their 'systems' for organizing and storing comics?

    Thanks so much!

I have a particularly "favorite" comic which I have been buying once or twice a year, already CGC slabbed, for over 20 years.

    I have 2 CGC 9.8s, 12 CGC 9.6s, 14 CGC 9.4s, 2 CGC 9.2s, 1 CGC 8.0, and a Signature Series CGC 9.6.

If I lived by the "9.8 only" mindset, the same amount of money I've spent might have bought about 6 CGC 9.8s... instead of having 30 slabbed copies at CGC 9.4 or higher.

I think CGC 9.8 is a good plan for people who are "one and done", but there's a ton of satisfaction in owning a giant stack of NM copies of a favorite book, vs. just one 9.8 of this, one 9.8 of that, etc.

This makes sense.  I may do the same for my fav! Stacking the same copy also would make me feel less sadness if I ever did sell one of them.

comics can absorb smells, just take a whiff of a comic that was in a cigarette users home (yuck!)

Not sure I see the benefit of these boxes over a regular cardboard box version.

They don't look very strong. Can you stack them several high?

I don't think you can stack them more than 2 maybe 3 high.  They have plastic inside the cloth.  It's about as strong as cardboard. Maybe slightly stronger

What I really don't get is the vast price difference between 9.8s and 9.6s as you could slap a 9.8 on a 9.6 or viceversa and 90% of collectors couldn't tell the difference.

    This

This was my point. I see even bigger difference between a 9.0 to a 9.8.  It's like it goes up exponentially (like a bubble ) in value from a 9.0 price to a 9.8 price.  And if you think about it the differences aren't that big.  It's just a few spine tics, maybe a small corner ding etc.

For instance on one comic I'm looking at the price of a sold 9.8 (during the 2022 mania peak) it shows as $50k price.  Then you see 9.0s going for about $5k during that time.  This is a price difference of 10 times for some slight variations of issues with the books condition.

I dont understand the big difference, even when you take into 'account scarcity' due to census count of the 9.8 vs 9.0 in this case was only hundreds of census differences.  Also census counts aren't exact as there might be people holding comics that aren't graded...

  8. Hello all I was wondering about older slabs/ labels.  I was wondering--does anyone have pictures of the 2003-2006 labels.

I have one that seems to have been tampered with.  It has cracks and also the label on top is peeling off.

Also does the label with the CGC grade # have a perforated look to it. Like the edges are torn from a perforated paper?
