Yes, CGC Customer Service. I didn’t feel the need to include who sent it, I was just happy that they responded and acknowledged our concerns. I’m sure I am not the only person who has had a response, I have not been a member long, little over a year and about 25 submissions, but all my interactions have been positive to date. Never been a forum guy, first time caller long time listener, but with 24 years experience on eBay and more years than I would like to say collecting LOTS of things, I thought I would chime in.

I really don't think this is an inside person. You can run this scam backwards or forwards depending on the outcome you need. You could buy a legit custom label 9.8 MJ, take out the real 9.8 MJ slip in a 9.2 MJ into the custom label case and resubmit for a regular label. Even a cursory look would look like a high grade with the MJ insert and poof a reholdered 9.8 with same cert on a generic blue label. I could see this as a huge benefit moving forward. Watch out for the magicians slight of hand. Now that we are all suspect of 9.8's with custom labels, all the custom labels will be sent in to be reholdered for blue labels. My brain just exploded as well. Love the new mantra, buy the book, not the case, but probably not the tagline CGC was shooting for.

I just went through this with something I sold on eBay that was returned to me. As soon as you have the return shipping label eBay has already taken the money out of his account and put it aside. I would also call eBay directly and ask there advice to the bigger picture. Maybe they would have you mail it to them.

Based on the others, this looks like his MO. Buy a 9.8 and buy a 9.2, switch out the 9.2 for the 9.8 and send back to CGC for a custom label. Going to be hard to trust any high dollar book with a high grade and a custom label. I”ve been on eBay for over 20 years, love em, but they are buyer centric. I think you have a good case for getting your money back for shipping costs from eBay considering everything going on with this “seller”.

Couldn’t he use the green label to put in an even lower grade qualified Hulk 181 and cover his tracks by submitting greens and blues and mistakes and reholders? Who knows what he has laying around. Turn a qualified 5 into a 7 with a custom label for example. Not a big money maker but I doubt this guy would leave an opportunity on the table.
