  1. One thing to consider as well is that a film's rating almost invariably falls from the earliest reviews -- since many of the early reviewers, particularly for genre films, are fans. That's my fear here. The film's Rotten Tomato score has fallen from 40% last night to 36% just this morning, and only 25% of the total number of reviews are in -- most will come tomorrow. And keep in mind, The Dark Knight was ultimately rated 94%, Dark Knight Rises 87% and Man of Steel 56%. Hell, even Amazing Spider-Man 2 clocked in at 53%. I wouldn't be surprised to see the final critical consensus under 30%. Maybe a turd's just a turd.
  2. This isn't good. I trust Scott Mendelson (of Forbes). He knows his movies and his comic books, and he's enough of a geek to be really excited about this film. And he trashed it: "The best moments of Dawn of Justice resemble nothing less than a feature length adaptation of a series of Alex Ross paintings in all their naturalistic glory." "For all the talk about The Dark Knight Returns as a baseline, there is a lot here from Superman: Peace on Earth, but it remains just outside of our grasp." "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice is not a good movie. It offers a truly unengaging Batman and then allows that character to dominate the proceedings while providing a painfully mopey and grim Superman-and-Friends narrative where the only ray of light comes from its homicidal arch-villain."
  3. I honestly don't care whether the shows are produced by Fox or Marvel TV. Both have proven they could do various Marvel properties well, and poorly.
  4. As I posted above, I've never forgiven Kevin Smith for that. _Totally_ stupid & unnecessary, but Quesada clearly loved the idea.
  5. I'd wager they're actually setting up "Underboss & Out" from Daredevil vol. 2, # 26-40. Nearly all the players are already in place. And it makes sense because they wouldn't need Bullseye. Rather, the storyline includes Wilson & Vanessa Fisk, Luke Cage, Iron Fist, Elektra, Jessica Jones and
  6. That's incredible. Given how popular the GotG movie was (and how beloved it is on these boards, in particular) that a Deadpool movie can out-gross it on 1/3 of the budget blows my mind. Ditto that it's outdone Iron Man and Iron Man 2. Comic book movies have come a long way since 2008!
  7. Bottom of the Marvel wiki page on Karen Page. Marvel's Karen Page I did not know that. It must be a recent Modern storyline. Yeah -- the whole death of Karen Page storyline kicked off Daredevil vol. 2 -- it's issue # 1-8, written by Kevin Smith. And I've never forgiven Kevin Smith for it. I get what Smith was trying to do & Mysterio's involvement was well done, but it was so unnecessary & clearly done just for shock value. I _love_ Daredevil vol. 2, but it only got good when Bendis took over around issue # 16. Vol. 2 # 16-87 are the definitive Daredevil, and as a whole it's far stronger than Miller's first run.
  8. Not sure about that, but there was zombie Punisher with the failed Bernie Wrightson miniseries, which I think was the first reboot attempt after the main three '80s/90s books ended. And then there was the Franken-Castle thing from Punisher War Journal vol. 2. Basic summary (from Wikipedia): After "Dark Reign," in which Castle tried to assassinate Norman Osborn, he was dismembered and killed by Wolverine's son, Daken, and reassembled as a Frankenstein monster by Morbius and the Legion of Monsters.
  9. _So_ excited for this. I've got two episodes left of Homeland, Season 2, then Daredevil Season 2 it is! There goes my weekend...
  10. It's not a matter of size, it's the inability for CGC to authenticate it, due to fears that it could be easily photocopied and/or counterfeited. Same reason they don't slab copies of Goobledygook 1 or 2.
  11. I'd love to see Will Arnett cast as The Tick, but I'm sure he's busy.
  12. Don't forget that Edlund was also a producer and writer on Firefly after The Tick as well.
  13. And the Deadpool craze isn't confined to just comics. A year ago I went to a huge cosplay convention and it wasn't just the Deadpool costumes -- it was costumes of Deadpool disguised as Sailor Moon; Deadpool disguised as Raggedy Ann; Deadpool disguised as Spidey. In certain circles, the character was a phenomenon well before the movie. And the movie has now out-grossed every X-Men, Hulk, Thor, and Captain America film even on an inflation-adjusted basis.
  14. But...the live action show was _horrible_. The _only_ good thing about it was Bat Manuel.
  15. Yeah, but c'mon, man. Spider-Man #7 had Ghost Rider in it! It deserved to have that print run, son!
  16. It's been years since I won a great mis-titled book via eBay. Last two noteworthy scores were 8 years ago, with a 5.0 Brave & Bold 54 hidden among a "Brave & Bold comics" lot, and a full NM pre-Unity Valiant set (minus the Vintage Magnus books) for $65 shipped because they were spelled "Veliant." Still - love it when gems are found for below FMV.
  17. Some infernal Bronze Age Magnus Robot Fighter. I need just # 33, 37, and 46 in CGC 9.4 to complete my 1-46 9.4 or better set.
  18. I don't see this is as a good thing at all. JGL straight out says that he and New Line couldn't see eye-to-eye on what makes Sandman special. And whether that was spin or not, I think the production will have a hard time finding with the star power and (as I see it) fit of JGL for the project.
  19. Not sure that Punisher's a good example to use as a proxy for eBay's change on the market because the character was out-of-favor overall for a few years in the late '90s. The three titles were cancelled, the Bernie Wrightson mini bombed & the character didn't get respect again until the Garth Ennis series. I know because I picked up a 9.0 copy of ASM 129 from my local comic shop in the late '90s for just $100. It had been a solid $200-$225 book at that same shop just a few years before. Ditto, Punisher War Journal 1 went from being a $20 book to $4 (or less) during that time period.
  20. This. It's not like Deadpool is a new character. He's been around for 25 years, which means he has proven popularity spanning more than one generation. For perspective, he's only a year younger than Wolverine was when the first X-Men movie came out.
  21. I don't think NM 98 pricing is anywhere near its long-term peak. Because the movie really is that popular, even by Marvel U. standards. Per Box Office Mojo, as of yesterday it has already outgrossed both Thor and both Captain America movies domestically on an _inflation-adjusted_ basis. That means that literally more people have gone to see Deadpool than any of those four movies, and it's probably got 1/3 of its domestic theatrical run left. Personally, I thought it was merely an ok movie, and nowhere near as good as say, The Winter Soldier. But at this point I think I'm no longer representative of Deadpool's fanbase. For him to be more popular than Thor or Cap among comic readers or cosplayers is one thing, but for the movie to be far more popular than even the 2nd Cap movie blows my mind.
  22. Much as I love Hobgoblin (and much prefer him to Venom) I think the ship on him appearing in a Spidey movie has sailed. Basically, Sony punked out when they had Harry Osborne appear as Green Goblin 2 rather than Hobgoblin in Spider-Man 3. That was his shot & it came & went. We've now seen Green Goblin in 3 out of 5 Spider-Man movies -- my bet is they'll go with different characters (Kraven, Mysterio, Chameleon, Vulture, even Venom again) rather than back to a Green Goblin knock-off. Sort of like how all 4 Fantastic Four movies have had Dr. Doom. It's time to put him away for awhile.
  23. To be fair, Ghost Rider: Spirits of Vengeance and Punisher: War Zone didn't ignore the source material. They were just bad movies.
  24. I think Trank wanted to make the FF as a horror movie - which makes sense in context as a reimagining and _could_ have worked if it had been a) better and b) tonally consistent. But can we PLEASE stop with the mythology of "faithful to the source material equals better" BS? Guardians of the Galaxy was a phenomenal movie that bore little resemblance to the comics I read in the 1990s, let alone the original team from the '70s. Blade 1 and 2 were far better than any treatment the character ever had in the comics - they took a bad Shaft rip-off and gave him far more gravitas. Heck, even the first two Spider-Man movies featured a far more serious Spidey than the fun-loving, motormouth wise-cracking one from the comics -- and it worked. That "true" comic book version of Spidey (sort of Deadpool-lite) didn't appear until The Amazing Spider-Man 2, and yet that alone couldn't save the film. Hell, even the Lord of the Rings trilogy made some ridiculous changes from the books, but the overall movies were so good that few people cared. Quality is quality, and far too many folks hide behind "it wasn't like the original comics," while ignoring that a) many comic books are really difficult to translate to the screen and b) the many superior film adaptations that (oops!) weren't totally faithful to their source.
