  1. Hey guys, I've got at temporary office setup....we bought a place where the owner was in a wheelchair, and although this built-in desk is perfect for scanning/sorting comics, it takes up too much room!  I have a much bigger comic room in the basement that at some point will be fully finished and be a real man cave!  In the meantime, I've started putting a few comics on display using the built-in shelves.  Are these incadescents damaging to the books?  I can replace them with a soft light.....I keep the blind closed, but at some point I'll replace it with a blackout curtain...

Was a LOT more than I wanted to pay as well, but worth knowing where another one of these are

    Shame it wasn't a 3 though, eh? 😉

Would have sold a lot higher for a 3.....I might have went higher if condition was better on the number 1, I feel like I would be upgrading down the road at some point (and possibly for the yellow too).  Anyways, sorry to have made you pay as much as you did, I think I ran the bill up lol.

I hope so. As you know, it represents a loss of 5 figures. The box went into Customs at LAX...and then disappeared.

Money aside, these books are about as close to irreplaceable as it gets with only a few copies of each.....I don't even know how this stuff goes stolen.  Does a customs agent open a box and stuff them in their shirt and then quite for the day?  You'd think every package is carefully accounted for?  The Hershey factory probably has better inventory management over their 50 cent chocolate bars....

  4. Hi guys, I sent in a pair of  Valiant Unity TPBs for grading that are super rare in high grade.  They came back 9.6 and 9.8!

Just for context, for book 2 there were no blue label 9.8s!  The books were not packaged property and got damaged and when we returned them to CGC the grades are much lower - 9.8 dropped to an 8.5.  CGC is offering the insured value plus grading, is this the best I'm going to receive in compensation?  I'm super pissed because the likeliehood of getting another set like this is extremely low....I really wished I never sent them in in the first place.  :(

The copy that was available for #1 (not 1A, 1B, 1C) had a “silver cover” note in the item notes section. It was available for $0.90, so if this is something rare, someone got a deal.

That's to RMA for confirming.  This is exactly what I thought - a seller didn't know what version of book it was (not really to any fault of their own), and they realized it was a gold after speaking with the buyer and cancelled the order.  I believe there was a book listed on MCS too, I wonder if this was also a gold mislabeled?  Until I see more copies floating around as proof - there's two of these books out there, a 9.4 and my 9.8.

There are four versions listed (make sure the “only in stock” box is unchecked). I see the Silver, Gold, Blue, and Red. Is there another color variant?

I selected each of the drop down options, and I don't see any copies?  Perhaps someone bought it, how many did you see?

There are copies available at MCS and atomic avenue, but unfortunately neither listing has any additional information.

I don't see any copies on atomic?  I see the one at MCS...it's definitely worth grabbing for $5 from them, they say it's the silver.

Possibly a silly question, but the CGC label says Hero Premiere Edition #9. Have you checked a bagged copy of Hero Illustrated #9, or maybe it was a later month (the 9th ashcan, not necessarily issue #9) to see if they're still in the original bag?

Well, the thing is the Shadowhawk ashcan has three other variations - gold, red and blue (the latter two being less common) - and I don't think the other ashcans have at least 3 variants but I could be wrong.  All of the Shadowhawk Ashcans (Red, Gold, Blue) seem to be quite common, I haven't bought any of the magazines or seen any in any quantity to suggest distribution levels between the three....given that there are several silver editions of these Hero ashcans (as pictured above), I think this was a planned release and not necessarily an error (there is at least one other copy on the census).

The silver Batman/Grendel was a mail-away contest, wasn’t it? I didn’t really read Hero and don’t have any copies, so I’m not sure if the other ashcans followed a similar format.

Something like that, apparently limited to 25 - but there's no way it was limited to 25 copies, they pop up more frequently than that (100-200?).

  10. Hi guys.  I'm looking for some information on this book.  I have the silver edition of the Shadowhawk Saga Ashcan, I sent this to CGC myself, and I'm trying to find the history of it.  I see there is one other graded copy (9.4) on the census, but other than that I don't know if this is an error edition or just a hard to find variant.  The gold, red and even blues are all fairly common.  I've owned two silver moon Batman/Grendels over the years, and I know there's a silver Aliens, so I know Hero put out silver editions of their other ashcan books and I'm wondering if this is along those lines?  Thanks!

  11. Fair enough, they're your books to do with what you wish.  Having said that, most collectors of these will have some of these - the likeliehood of finding a buyer for the set is extremely low (very niche item, niche collector).  You'll make more selling them individually, let me know if you decide to go that route I'd be interested in a few but there's zero chance I'm buying the entire set to then selloff individually.

One of my neighbors posted these for free on our neighborhood notice forum. In the picture they posted they looked like comics with closed boxes next to these. Turned out they were large mounted wall plaques. Sadly no actual comics. Had to grab them though.

I went to an estate sale last Monday that had hundreds of hopeful buyers show up in the early morning for a smattering of golden age, original art and dozens of shortboxes of deep cut 90s indies. The golden age comics were $10 each and the moderns were $2 each

The maxx Glow and Valiants are amazing!  This is a serious collector to have those gold books.  Which gold holo ultraverse is that?

That issue will always remain a mystery on who owns it and what it looks like.

I wonder if it's a one-off, common with foils.  At CGC I have a shadowhawk saga silver foil, there's only one other copy on the census and I looked online everywhere but couldn't find anything.
