I know it might not have come back a 9.8 but that is one sweet book.

Are you saying that you bought the Daredevil #236 from Reynold Jay and he submitted it for you......then when it came back as a 10.0 he charged you extra for it?

yes he would have some books that he knew would at least get a 9.8 and if they came back higher he would give you the option to still buy it. if I remember correctly he ended up charging me $140 for the 10.0

  3. usps can be very lax I bought a $750 cgc from a friend on this board and the tracking said it arrived at my post office and was out for delivery and that was it never found out what happened to it. I used to think I might see it at the local comic shop but I never did. when I was a teenager my parents were out of town and like a dumb I had a huge party and a couple of days later I found out someone stole my avengers#1 , amazing spidey#3 and amazing spidey annual#1 and to make things worse they stole 10k of my moms jewelry. man I never heard the end of that lol. I hope the board member gets his comics back there are so many bad people in this world who will screw you over in a minute to make a dollar.

  4. I own a number of 10.0s my oldest is ghosts#112 but my favorite 10.0 is daredevil#236 the 25th ann issue. I bought the daredevil from a guy named Reynold jay some of you may know him from the early 2000s who sold a lot on eBay. he used to say he keeps his comics in a refrigerator  or freezer and that is how he got so many 9.9s and 10s.I was hoping just for a 9.8 but it came back a 10.0 so he just upped the price and I got it. I have never had any that I submitted come back 9.9 or 10 but I sure have bought a boatload of them.years ago I bought marvel collectible classic #2 cgc 10.0 for around $175 still have it but should probably sell it seeing it goes for a good chunk of change now.

  5. back in 2002 I sent in an amazing spider-man#42 and it came back cgc 8.0. I noticed it had some wrinkles on the back cover so about 8 years later I cracked it out had it pressed and sent to cgc. the press did bump it up to 8.5 but the bad part was this time it got a purple label saying slight color touch. I guess nobody is perfect and even cgc misses color touch sometimes but I wish I hadn't cracked it out.

I stopped in for a few hours Sunday afternoon with my wife and son.  First,  went directly to the CGC booth with ten Silver Age books and dropped them off via Express.  Next,  walked thru the Guest area.  Spoke briefly with Ed Brisson.  My wife asked me if I wanted to stop and get a picture with Neal Adams then we saw the sign for $30 a pic and kept walking.  I passed his booth probably six times and no one was ever with him.  Then, I hit the Dealers Area.  I spoke with 7 or 8 guys and the overall feeling was the show was decent, sales-wise.   One said so-so at best, another had a very good show.  A couple dealers felt the Washington, DC con with Stan Lee as the headliner took a healthy chunk of potential cash out of Charlotte.

Stopped by and said hello to Dave of Dave's Comics, Dennis of Rebel Base, Mario of Mario's Comics, Dale Roberts, G.A.tor, Harley Yee and few more I'm forgetting...

I headed back to the Guest area and had a 10 minute conversation with Jim Steranko.  I never had an opportunity to meet him before.  What a wonderful and gracious person!  Afterwards, we ended up over with my buddy, Lee Weeks and spent at least a half hour there catching up.  Lee lived 5 minutes from my Pennsylvania store when I was in business back in the 90s and we'd speak regularly.  Great talent!

I'm only looking for a few books to finish my collection and have never found even one at this show but it's always fun to stop in and spend two or three hours once a year and chat with friends & ex-business acquaintances.

We wrapped up the day at Fuel Pizza over on South Blvd., then headed home.

NOTE:  Did anyone see Jim Shooter on Sunday?

When i was at the cgc booth in line waiting on a witness i heard one ask if anybody was getting anything signed by Shooter to follow them but i did not actually see him.

  7. I feel your pain not as much money as you have in it but i had a $700 cgc 9.8 halloween book with jamie lee curtis and some other sigs on it get lost by usps and the last tracking on it said out for delivery but never got it.I went to the post office but they were no help but thankfully the seller was a friend on these boards who did give me another book and has hooked me up with getting some great signatures. Hope everything turns out for you.
