I doubt any of you have seen something like this and it is my favorite piece of his collection. Jeff drew this full page comic strip in March 1986 for a humor magazine called The Sundial which was given out for free on the campus of Ohio State. Jeff later reprinted the single page in the Bone Reader (1996) and also expanded the story for a full 8 page feature in Disney Adventures Magazine (1994), where many people first discovered Bone.

Our collector bought this around 1998 in a cash and trade deal (he traded away an unsigned 3-panel pencil sketch of Fone Bone writing his poetry). The previous owner says he obtained the page from partner at Character Builders after Jeff sold his share to start Cartoon Books with his wife Vijaya in 1991.

I've never seen the hand lettering that would later become his signature font. That is super cool.

This is the second page of the Bone/Castle Waiting crossover with the Bone cousins blue pencilled and inked by Jeff Smith, lettering by Jeff Smith, and everything else by Linda Medley (with no pencilling).

Jeff Smith's inks are so clean and that's a great example of his digital + traditional lettering.

is this the HA auction where they are selling the interiors to possibly the most racist Don Rosa Uncle Scrooge art produced by Disney in the modern era? (mid-90's) Disney has banned the comic from ever being reprinted, and HA has this almost passive-aggressive tone in their description of the pages chiding this decision because it's in the middle of a story arc. This, coupled with their association with Robert Wayne Dennis who was sentenced for 3 years for assaulting an officer on Jan. 6th has made me reluctant to ever consign with them. You know, at least make a half-assed effort to warn viewers. If it had a nipple on it you'd have to have an account, and present yourself as an adult to view the image, but you can show egregiously offensive cartoon depictions of African-American's and that's perfectly alright?  I guess they will print a catalog of them too. So in a way, the story has gotten reprinted. (minus word balloons)

Wow, to put it very politely I am surprised that was published in 1995. Heritage also has it listed as a featured auction which is, uh, a choice. Not exactly what I'd expect to see beside a pivotal Dave Gibbons page from Watchmen or pages from Jack Kirby, but there it is...
