  1. Received this week from CGC. Obviously, a major disappoinment with #1 and a slight one with #3 (a small stain on inside URC; you tell me if it looks worse than #6 ...) but not so with #6.

  3. Just checked on my order and my "restored" Avengers No. 1 graded at 5.0. A disappointment for sure. The better news is that my "unrestored" No. 3 graded at 9.0 and my No. 6 is 9.4! Again, thanks for the info guys.
  4. It's not going to get any better with collectors like me out there who are inexperienced at grading or don't open the books up much in order to keep them in the best condition. I've had that #1 for almost 20 years and I probably opened the bag and looked at it three or four times since I bought it. And it was worse with higher grade books. I bought them in 1993 and I doubt I opened them up more than twice. I guess the lesson is to stick with slabbed books until I'm educated further in the fine art of inspection. Oh well, My $750 investment in the #s 3,4 and 6 should be worth $25-30 grand now. Not bad. Now what to send in next? I've got a nice TTA #35 and an FF #12. I'll probably send in one of my #57s.I've got one that is probably at least 9.0 but then again, who knows!
  5. Got some more bad/good news today. My books have been graded. The #1 that showed some restoration graded 5.0. My #3 graded at 9.0, which was disappointing since it came from the same batch as my 9.4 #4. However, my #6 graded at 9.4, so it wasn't a total loss.
  6. I bought it at a show in 1990 in central New Jersey. I really don't remember who I bought it from. It really is a nice copy. I don't know what the grade is but I was hoping for at least a 6 and probably a 7. I'm not particularly adept at finding trimming. I probably opened the book up maybe two or three times since I bought it, so I don't know about the coloring. It kind of puts a damper on it. However, I do have Avengers #3 and #6 in the order that comes from the same batch as my 9.4 #4, so it shouldn't be a total loss. Thanks for your info.
  7. I'm in a panic. My CGC order is still in Verified but now I see that my Avengers #1 has a "TRIMMED" in the pedigree area and "Apparent SA" in another. I'm not an expert but would that mean its trimmed and what does "SA" mean? I was hoping for a 7.0 or better, now my $400 investment in 1990 looks to be going down the tubes. Any imput would be welcome.

  9. I believe the 9.4 #4 on comiclink finished just below $20G. After a couple of $20-25G sales, the market might be leveling off.
  10. And the Pedigree #4 CGC 9.6 finished at $64,000. Almost makes me want to break open my 9.4 and resubmit ...
  11. NIce pickups h&c! It is way better -- but more pricier -- to upgrade collections now than it was 15-20 years ago. You KNOW what you're getting now, instead of either trusting the seller's grading ability or yours. I have #s 1-503 but probably will be lucky to get 1-20 graded. Also, I have a question for anyone on this board. Can you get notes from CGC on books they have graded?
  12. Thanks Surfer. Actually, I'm paying a lot of attention to the Avengers #4 CGC 9.4 on Comiclink. If it pulls more than $20,000, I may consider putting mine up later. That's some serious change. And the best part of all this is that I did most of my Avengers collecting in the 1990s, when it was affordable.
  13. Here are the Nos. 1,3 and 6 that I'm about to get graded. And my No. 57, which will be in the next batch.
  14. Thanks for the great tips! And thanks to everyone for the wonderful welcomes. Well, here's my baby. We are stuck in the 20th century in photography, so this is the best I can do for now -- my cellphone camera (which isn't bad). Enjoy.
  15. Hi everyone. I'm new to the boards, CGC, etc. I'm amazed at your collecting prowess. I got a leg up on some of you since I'm an Avengers fan from way back, when it wasn't fashionable. I started buying comics in 1969 (ASM #80 -- which I still have sans cover -- and FF #94 were my first Marvels). My first Avengers was issue #93, which I bought b/c it had the FF (or so I thought) in it. It would begin a run that ended with #205 (I was 18 and needed the money for other things ...). For the first few years I just collected Avengers despite not being a big fan. I started reading the reprints in Marvel Triple Action. Soon, I got the MTA back issues with the original team and was hooked. Soon, at age 13, I started collecting from #92 down. By the time I stopped collecting five years later, I had a run down to #21. Flash forward to 1990 -- I was out of college, married with two incomes and got the bug again. My first big purchase was a #1 (for $400) that appears to be fine (more on that later). By 1992 or 93 I had pretty much filled in from #1 to #20 and from #206-up. Then I hit the jackpot. My local comic shop acquired a small comic box full of vintage silver age books that were pristine. Among the books were Avengers #s 3-4, and 6-10. After consulting my financial advisor I was able to buy the #s 3,4 and 6 for $750. Over the next few years I tried to upgrade them as much as I could or afford. I'm not a professional grader but I believe I the first 75 issues would be graded fine or better. Like I said, I'm new to CGC so I'm just now getting some of my books slabbed. But in 2004, my local comic shop owner told me he was sending a batch of books to CGC. So, I had him submit my Avengers #4. It is clearly my gem and I'm proud to say that I'm one of 16 owners of a 9.4. Hence my membership to CGC. Soon, I'm going to submit my #s 1, 3 and 6. Hopefully, the latter two will be 9.4s also. Sorry I was long winded. If anyone took the time to read the whole thing. Thanks. I'm going to enjoy corresponding with kindred spirits! Sometime, I will figure out how to post photos of some of my books.
