  1. The Mound City run is not too shabby either. I wonder how much of an impact having two HG runs beings sold within a couple of weeks of each other will have on prices? In 2007, Doug had Steve's run and Heritage had Marlow's and Fantastic Franks run all at the same time. Record prices were set. This time around, my hope is that is too much. There are a ton of good books in the auctions. In addition, Doug is going to have a 9.2 123 in his next grand auction as well. I apoligize for having to sell the collection when we did, but we were given a deadline by our clients lawyer. We had to be done in Nov. and I didn't want to hold a sale at the same time as comic link or heratige, so I went first. By the way I think we have most of our Flash items up now.
  2. Okay dad, way to reply to the thread I'm replying to at the same time I'm doing it.
  3. We are planning on having live internet bidding provided through both iCollector as well as Proxibid. We are in the process of developing the final catalog now, and it should be ready for uploading within a couple of weeks. Once the catalog is live on those sites, pre-bids can be accepted on the lots in the auction from either site. So, while it isn't eBay (which, AFAIK has discontinued its "eBay live" platform) it works in the same fashion. And believe me, we will let you guys know when the pre-bidding can happen on the lots in this auction.
  4. Ebay live got out of the live auction business as of 12, 2008. Proxibid and iCollector now rule the roost for on-line bidding both before and during the auction. We will not only be using proxibid and icollector before the auction we will be stream live video and audio via at least proxibid. iCollector was the provider of service for the ebay live auctions for HA before they built their own front end and as such as plenty of access to who the buyers were at HA. I plan on doing a marketing campaign to their bidders. While I understand the value of this board I also understand google groups, usenet and lots of other ways of finding bidders. I think I'll be OK. If you can't make the auction just bid online!
  5. Maybe this high price may bring a few more 5.0's or 6.0's out. I think $15000-20000 for the 8.0 Mound City copy looks reasonable now. Define "reasonable"! This book is currently driven by supply and demand. Collectors now recognizes that SC 22 page quality is normally crm/ow. This particular 5.5 has off-white pages, and as detective27kid said " On sc22 pq is a big deal if you are looking for a separating quality over other copies". This copy deserves a premium...but $3803.64??? Regarding the Mound City 8.0, this is the only publicly high grade copy available for sale and the rest is tucked away in collections. Below are examples of other notable Silver Age keys sales which I have mentioned before. Let's use BB 28 and Avengers 1 as a comparison. The 3rd highest graded BB 28 (which there is five) sold in Comiclink for $21000. Also, let's use Avengers 1 as a comparison. A 8.0 (5th highest and 23 copies) sold in CL for $26000 and a 9.0 (4th highest and ten copies) for $20000 again in CL. Showcase 22 is in high demand and there are less high grade copies available compare to their counterparts. Man, the 5.5 got almost $4k....I can't even guess what the Mound copy will bring now. Tim (tth2), any thoughts on what you think that 8.0 Mound may bring at auction? I couldn`t even guess. The market is way too fluid for this book right now, plus I really don`t follow prices of non-NM books. I guess it wouldn`t surprise me if this book broke the $10K mark, but that`s about all i can say. I can agree with that (thumbs u It will be interesting to see where the Mound City copy ends up. Most (all?) of us here agree that it is not an 8.0 book, but that is what the label says. My guess is that it sets a new record (can it top the price paid for the 9.0s?) for SC #22 IF it gets sufficient exposure since a lot of (or most of) collectors will pay for the CGC grade, not the book in the holder. The only thing I can see that might hurt the price a bit is that they are doing the auction themselves and not on one of the big three sites (Clink, CC or Heritage). I hope I get to prove you wrong on the last part! The fact that (other than sending my son to Chicago, and a google adwords campaign) I have not started advertising this sale yet and still we have some of what seem to me (I admit my opinion dosen't count for much) to be the top collectors in the country chatting about a collection of 3000+ books when we have not even finished putting the information for the first 100 books online, says I might be doing something right. OK that was a run on sentance and I lose 20 points. Now back to work. Rob Lite is updating our google doc with the grades, and CGC facts, I am updating the auctionzip site and the website. By the way if you have not discovered auctionzip yet you need to give it a look. We use it for all of our auctions and it is great. You can use it for free to find local auctions in your area (hince the zip part of the name). If you pay a very small fee (I am not connected with them so I get no part of the fee) you can search 14,000 auctioneers auctions. Imagine if you did a search on say green lantern. You might find a treasure at a local auction. Just a thought, and now I have given back a small tid bit for all the help you fine folks have given me. enjoy. Rob
  6. Don't forget your costume, and after the preview, there is a fantastic bar district right down the street with lots of other contests. It's a real safe area with a lot of charm. Tina and I went down there last year and had a hoot watching those in costume stroll by. http://aedwardsphotography.com/stchuckles.aspx http://aedwardsphotography.com/stchuckles.aspx http://media.collegepublisher.com/media/paper304/stills/wgwqm486.jpg http://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/9cweyijU3NljqLQ5n1RkcA
  7. All of the scans came out a little dark, did you compare it to the first unslabbed scan? Rob Oh, don't forget to use the magnifing glass to get up close and personal with it, you want it, you want it, it must be yours.... you are getting very sleepy....
  8. Nope, it's from moving way to much furniture!! Or comics, we took them on tour to some local shops today (er, I mean nobodys seen them, these aren't the droids your looking for). Don't worry we made them wear bibs to catch the slobber. Now they are safely back at the bank vault, in a big old safe deposit box. rob
  9. Wow....that is high to me....Rick, (Detective27) what do you think? Let's use BB 28 as a comparison. The 3rd highest graded copy (which there is five) sold in Comiclink for $21000. Also, let's use Avengers 1 as a comparison. A 8.0 (5th highest and 23 copies) sold in CL for $26000 and a 9.0 (4th highest and ten copies) for $20000 again in CL. SC22 is in very high demand and comparable to AF15 and Avengers 1. Hey, doen't that look low? I thought more like 5 million!!! Ha ha. If my leg wasn't sore I'd be dancing.
  10. I went back and checked 3 times, it's 9.4
