  1. I love the date stamp - fantastic copy!

yeah made me wonder if it is a lost green river copy

I was wondering that myself actually.

I spoke to the person who submitted the book to CGC, book was from an OO collection out of Ohio, so no Green River, but still a nice book.

  3. Aside from the new Deadpool series, what's coming up with Foolkiller, Terror Inc etc?

Several of his allies are characters who’ve been around the Marvel Universe for a long time, such as Terror, Foolkiller, Solo, and Stingray.

I''m well aware of the series, and that it's now an ongoing. Just saying that if the 1st appearances of those characters haven't gone up in the last few months, why would they now? Thinking Devil Dinosaur and Weirdworld and their respective crash and burns

I am surprised you would think like that. Deadpool is the hottest character around. All those books are dirt cheap. Id jump on any of them at $.50 or $1 its an easy flip in high grade. Give it a few months especially if circulation on that book is a hit.

It just seems like, unlike the 1990's, an old character in a new series doesn't get much of a back issue bump unless a TV show or movie is involved. We can fault Marvel's annual reboot for that I suppose.

I hope the Deadpool Mercs series takes off, I'm well stocked on the 1st appearance of all 4 Foolkillers, and have multiple copies of Terror Inc #1, St George #2 and Daredevil #305, covering all the bases there.

It is unfortunate but books rarely seem to go up because of story arcs anymore.

  4.

The biggest problem with the Punisher is the character is based on a archetype that has it's roots firmly planted in the 1970s. That was the era of the Charles Bronson and Clint Eastwood revenge movies which spawned the Punisher. It looked like Marvel was going to reinvent the character in the 1990s but that fizzled. The character has been on life support every since then. The Netflix appearances will drawn attention to the character, but the Punisher's best days are behind him. Luckily, the aging fanbase remembers the character and his heyday, which is why ASM #129 is so valuable. Punisher's rise and fall are akin to the rise and fall of action hero movies. When Schwarzenegger, Willis, Stallone, Norris, etc. where at their peak, so was the Punisher. When those movies went out of favor, so did the Punisher.

The Punisher Max run did well enough to last 75 issues and still has a core of readers in the TPB market, IMO some of Ennis's best work

I would agree the Max run was fantastic, but I do think that it's best that he stays out of mainstream Marvel books that's why the Max run was so great. The Bradstreet covers were (thumbs u

  5. I think New X Men 128 has been at around the 15-20 dollar range for the last few years, right? Every once in a while a newsstand edition will net a little higher.

I sold a ton of them on the boards at $50 each right after Uncanny X-Force 4 came out

Great book and great character, popularity seemed to diminish after they "killed" him near the end of the run though.

  6. Maybe I am jaded, but it seemed like some of Cable's popularity was because Wizard was telling collectors he should be popular. Deadpool's current popularity seems more organic and natural.

He was on the X-men animated series cartoon that had a big impact on x-men fans at the time and still does.

The 90's cartoon is what got me into comics and what drives my collecting even today....

  7. I'm 32 and used to collect in the early to mid 90's and then stopped around Heroes Reborn. Around 99 a lot of local comic stores started closing and I would stop it and pick up some books on the cheap.Around 2001 the Ultimate Marvel lines and Wolverine Origin really got me back into reading and collecting.

  8. In terms of 'does it really effect the value of the book'... Has their EVER really been a modern comic in the last 20 years, who's real value has increased strictly because a movie or tv show was made about it?

I realize their are plenty of little temporary spikes that happen so that the people who are ashamed to be a part of this hobby can sell off all the previously useless copies they'd hoarded, but those aren't real increases in value, if the book just returns to being a $4 book a few months later.

When has a movie, tv show, or cartoon, REALLY increased the value of a modern comic, in the last 20 or so years?

Walking Dead was already on it's way up, but the tv show, certainly has to be seen as taking a part in it's rise.

    What else?

    Batman Adventures 12.

What movie or tv show started that rise?

Kids growing up on Batman TAS becoming adults. It sure as shoot wasn't a result of how DC screwed up the character with the new 52.

So you're saying, 17 years after the show was on, those who grew up watching it decided to suddenly hunt down the comic with her first appearance?

No it must have been the 30k readers of her first solo series and Gotham City Sirens that led to the demand for that book. Surely it had nothing to do with all those kids that grew up watching that show at any point during the decade plus it was airing on television. Harley wasn't introduced to most comic readers/collectors through comics.

She wasn't? I was watching Batman Adventures with my son back in those days AND collecting comics, and Mad Love was a pretty popular book when it first came out (much more so than BA12), and would over the course of the first year go to 3 printings.

I have no doubt, a lot of people may have been introduced to the character through the TV show, but she sold a lot of comics before BA12 took off.

I'd think it was more a combination of all of her appearances that slowly led to a slow building interest, especially from a new generation of fans...

Which isn't a far stretch to believe, as the same thing happened with Deadpool, without even having a cartoon.

BA 12 is a bad example because no one knew about it being her first. I remember Mad Love being a wildly popular book and one that people would pay a premium for.

I thought I was the only one who remembered Mad Love being the book to have for this character.

  9. trying to start building an invincible collection. After issue #1 what are considered some keys from this series (without me reading through 300 pages of thread)

Also what is the current rate for #1 9.8?

    :foryou:

Obviously 2-10, 11 has been quite expensive and 12 and 13 can be as well. The alternate cover of 50 is harder to find.

  10. My own sense is that DCCP #26 and New Teen Titans #1 are very "copper-y", and that the whole "copperization" process was not like a lightswitch going off overnight, but in last year's discussion we wanted some firmer timelines.

Most of the books from 1982 on your list do get a shout out (of sorts) on last year's Top 50 list...

I'm really interested, though, in what's changing... Are GI Joe or Transformers declining in importance? Are Suicide Squad or Black Adam or Captain Marvel or Warlock appearances on the rise?

I think GI Joe has really taken a hit over the last ten years, partially due to two horrible movies and no current animated show for kids to enjoy. It seems like GI Joe is being remembered by people that grew up with it where as Transformers are being enjoyed kids and adults alike.

  11. No idea who Anti Monitor is , apparently he's going to a be a big player?

I looked up 1st anti monitor on ebay....and a couple listings are billing # 6 as his 1st app...There are also a couple CGC slabs up, but the sellers are billing them as "1st Wildcat App".

The CGC label notes do not make any mention of either character.

Your screen name is CopperAgeKids, and you do not know who the Anti-Monitor is? :baiting: Crisis is one of the most important evens in the the last 30 plus years.

  12. Glad to see all the Valiant interest. You guys are making us proud over at Valiantfans.com.

Although it's driven by movie hype, it's nice to see people talking about VALIANT again. Now check out some of the new stuff, it's great!

I would not necessarily say it is all movie hype, the new books are quite good.

  13. Anyone here buy this counterfeit GG 2? Pretty cool. I never saw it for sale before. I was going to go up to $50, but it went way over that

How much did it go for? (I'm at work and ebay is blocked).

I had a #1 and a #2 that I sold a board member that I picked up from a local dealer a few years back and I am also from Pa. Wondering where and who made them originally.
