  1. You can have that one for twice what I paid ;)

I actually haven't seen this book very often in high grade. I've seen the 17 a couple of times (heck, the Church copy is available at Metropolis for just $3K :D )

I bought the one I posted as a 6.0, and I think that is probably right. It has some paper lose and a little tearing at the staple that would prevent me from grading it higher. I think it looks pretty in the mylar though.

I suspect that if I ever sell the Captain Midnights (all in VG to VF- or so) that I have been accumulating (I'm waiting for the movie  ), that one will stay in my collection.

It's my favorite Captain Midnight cover.

Did someone mention Raboy Captain Midnights?

That 13 looks also like it's a Raboy cover. If not, it's someone who draws well and is trying to imitate Raboy. Both are really cool books! :applause:

is this a fersure raboy? would love to add it to my want-list.

and great book, book by the way!

The Cap Mid 11 above is a Raboy. The 13 is conjecture on my part with others disagreeing strongly.

then why hasn't anyone p.m.'ed me to sell me one?

  2. A book like that would look out of place in my collection.

I'll find a nice 6.0-7.0 for 1/20 the price and be very happy with it.

Hamlet- Dude, he actually might buy it. Let's not encourage him or there will be no super nice books for the rest of us.

Cheetah- it's actually not that nice of a book. And I assume you've already seen it and have no interest in it or you would have bought it by now. If you haven't seen it, it's really not that nice.

Vincent and Steven- I want that book.

  3. I think the Church copy of 17 on Metropolis's website is calling to you, cheetah.

    :D

Thanks, guys. I've been enjoying the Captain Midnights alot since they aren't very hot right now and the prices aren't as bad as they've been in the past (for buying, not selling). But I expect they will be like some of the HG Fiction House books, they'll dry up as soon as someone(s) realizes I'm collecting them.
  4. I have one Rawhide Kid comic in my collection. It is a nice G/VG copy of this book. Lot's of general wear, but solidly intact.

I have no idea where I got it.

Just bought this tonight. I can't wait to see it in person. I overpaid and used some funds I was saving for books I wanted to pull the tigger on here on the boards. These Westerns are such a pain to find in any sort of decent shape I had to pull the trigger after a couple hrs of debating with myself

I'll try to post a scan of the book again once its in hand.

Scarce is an understatment for this book. That's one heck of a copy. Congratulations :acclaim:

  5. I think that if I was a high dollar investor, I would be considering buying a copy of this book at this time.

As you state, demand for this book is at a low ebb. However, I don't think that that is a permanent situation.

Showcase 22 has been remarkably hot for the last few years, even though it is a much less important book than Showcase 4, and it is the first appearance of a second tier DC character as well.

I think interest in the Flash right now is lower than Green Lantern, but I don't think that is permanent. These things ebb and flow based on the quality of the modern books, movie interest, etc.

At some point I expect interest in the Flash to rise, and when it does I would expect Showcase 4 to rise in value compared to the other large keys from its current position.

Note-- all this said, I don't see myself ever owning this book. The only real high dollar books I am targeting in my collection are AF15 and ASM1. I may never own those either though.

I've never had the desire to own this book. I'll see Harley Yee or some other major dealer at a show and ask to see their Hulk 1, AF 15, Adventure 247, but in all my years of collecting, I have never requested to see a Showcase #4.

I can understand its significance as the 1st Silver Age book (although arguements can be made against it), but the Flash is a second tier DC character, and the Silver Age resurgence of Superheroes was 50 years ago and for folks in my age group (between 30-40), it doesn't mean a lot. We always had Superhero comics around, and more significantly, Marvel Superheroes.

Having said all of the above, I see this book dropping several notches in desirability and relative OPG value against other books in the next few years, but that's just my opinion. Anyone think otherwise? (shrug)

  6. I think BATMANFAN should start several pressing threads in General to make everyone happy.

You guys are harsh. If Tom wants to limit his involvement to selling books, he should be permitted to do so. There is nothing that requires someone to participate in a way they may not be comfortable. There is no requirement for people who only posts in the substantive threads to also sell books.

Following selling rules is another story and I agree that Tom should become fluent in these before selling another book. Nonetheless, keep offering these great books Tom - and dont be deterred by the haters!!

  7. Arch - does the board software have the capability to prohibit new users from starting threads in select forums (such as "Comics Market - Forum Only Selling Area") until they have a minimum post count? That would be cool...

I don't think that would really serve as a draw back. There would just be a a lot more lol and :headbang: posts in threads and new topics started about nothing to boost post counts :( I joined in July and I've seen people who joined the same time as me with thousands of posts already :o

    :headbang:

  8. Kudo's right back at you.

I got your books. The grading was solid as a rock. The packaging bulletproof.

    Thanks!

Big Kudo's to a bunch of forum members for purchases from the OO collection I have been selling.

Great folks one and all, fast payment, great to work with (worship)

  9. I suppose that this is technically Silver Age, but its my first early WW.

I've decided that I want to collect a run of WW, probably from 80 - 110, because there are some really cool covers in that run.

I bought this off of Ebay as a Fine, but I think it is just a nice looking 4.0. I bought it expecting a 4.0 though, so I'm pretty content.
