  1. Very nice find on the New Mutants #98. (thumbs u

I also made a nice haul today at a local garage sale. I got the following 163 DC books, almost all in 9.4 to 9.8 condition, for a grand total of $400:

66 Batman comics between issues 340 and 436

69 Detective Comics between issues 504 and 578

26 Justice League comics between issues 150 and 209

    Supergirl 1

    Wonder Woman 242

I got these from the same guy I got a bunch of Batmans from that I sold earlier this year. Almost all of them ended up CGC 9.6's or 9.8's.

I think I need to hang out where you are hanging. Somewhere in the midwest?

  2. I've posted this story before, but I always like a new opportunity to trot it out again:

Biggest thrill was in the early 1980s, wandering through a used book fair and spying a cardboard box of comics under a seller's table. Asked if I could look through them, and my heart almost stopped when I found FF #2 in (what I now know to be) VF condition. Kept flipping and I think my heart DID stop when I saw the next book: FF #1, again in VF shape.

I made sure no one else saw the books, and I quietly and calmly asked the guy what he wanted for them. He obviously knew they were worth something, but had no idea how much, because he said $50. I asked him, "each?!", and he said "for both". I gave $50 cash and got the heck out of there as fast as possible!

You can tell that story as many times as you like. (thumbs u

  3. I stumbled upon a street sale on the upper west side of Manhattan last Fall. I am always on the look out for comics. Usually I'll come across a bunch of modern drek. This time I hit a vein of silver age stuff. The guy was asking a buck a book. I ended up with a pretty good ASM run 60-80 in fine condition, as well as a bunch of Dare Devil and Capt. America. Not too shabby!!!

  4. Several reasons...primary being I've got too much stuff, I need to pay off bills, and CGC gives out 9.8s like they are candy. I'm keeping my Marvel horror 9.8 books and will "recollect" the series in 9.8 only when I see 'em and the price is right. I'm even contemplating wiping out a lot of my DC collection of certain grades as well, but one step at a time.

I started out with DC horror...I may just end there...

300 books packed in CGC boxes ready to go...working out logistics. Selling them may be cathardic for me, who knows.

Any chance you'll move some of your books here first? (hint-hint)

  5. over-rated book...and I feel almost sorry for the amount of money the person who buys it and later resells it only to discover two or three has popped up on the census with the arrival of a 9.9.

Also, the QP will make all of the difference in the world in terms of potential fetch...it matters more than the grade imo.

I'm still waiting for the first 9.8 HOS 92.

Amen Brother. I am still searching little old ladies attics for that HOS #92 9.8!

  6. Even though I don't post much in here lately I still love my bronze horror. I had the chance to meet Bernie at Mid Ohio Con and had him sign the below book. I also bought a cool T-shirt.

Great book and an awesome spot for a signature!

  7. New collector huh! Stay away from high grade comics,it's too late for me.If I could save someone from this overly expensive hobby, than I've done my job.GET OUT WHILE YOU CAN

Ditto! I have become a high grade comic snob. Sure I'll buy mid grade on key books, but I am always searching for the fix of a higher grade copy to shoot into the big vein of my habit.
