  1. This one is probably already in the 119 pages of posts, but this one is mine and I just got it today. (thumbs u

I bought that comic when it came out. That was a prism foil cover thing to it? Right? That one a different printing?

1st print. Newsstand Edition. Most newsstand editions from the 1990's did not have the special gimmick covers (ie. Foil, hologram, prism, etc..).

I don't care for the series, but I bought the newsstand version when it came out because other collectors weren't. I figured it would be more desirable down the road. I was right.

I do actually like this cover better. The prism cover looks gaudy to me,

  2. dgarth: You're sitting on $$$, you know that.... right? Good stuff!

I'm waiting for a movie so that I can REALLY agree with that. I like Ditko's Dr. Strange better than the Spider-man stuff. I've parted with two other copies at different times in my collecting history.

  3. A few TPB's to review...

    Dracula (Diamond Limited TPB)

    nn_Dracula_DLTPB.jpg

    Terminator Endgame (Diamond Limited TPB)

    TPB_Terminator_Endgame_DLTPB.jpg

Rumor is that there are two variations of this next one. It's the most common of the Diamond Limited TPB's. If you find ones that bound the regular issues in with all the original inserts, it would be rarer. I've never seen it.

    Robocop vs. Terminator

    nn_Robocop_vs_Terminator_DLTPB.jpg

Terminator Hunters and Killers (Diamond Limited TPB)

    DLTPD_Terrminator_Hunters_and_Kille.jpg

Batman: Blind Justice (Diamond Limited TPB)

    DLTPB_Blind_Justice_wp.jpg

The next one is the worst of the bunch. You have to spin it in circles to read it. I think I have four. I was able to grab the last one for a dollar because the dealer didn't know how HTF it is.

    Youngblood (Diamond Limited TPB)

    nn_Youngblood_DLTPB.jpg

A little easier to find is this...

Vampirella: Morning in America (Diamond Limited TPB)

    TPB_Vampirella_Morning_in_America_DLTPB.jpg

I'm pretty sure I posted the Cyberrad TPB earlier. I know I posted the Spider-Man Torment. Most people know about the Unity Book 1 & Book 2 TPB's.

    That leaves...

Spawn Capital Collection (I think I have three)

    nn_Spawn_Capital_Collection_DLTPB.jpg

    and

    Man of Steel Raffle Edition

    TPB_Raffle_Man_Of_Steel_500px.jpg

of course it's more cool if you get the letter with it...

I have set out to do what has never been done. Buying American books at any price is as easy as clicking the buy it now button

I am proud to say I have shown Neal Adams books to sign he drew that he has never seen.

Don't get me wrong. I've always liked foreign comics. It's McFarlane and that Spider-man #1 cover that I can't stand. Not wild about Punisher either.

I probably have foreign keys of the books you like. Haters will hate on McFarlane its all good.

Foreign comics are just novelties to me. Being a key doesn't make me like them more or less unless you go back to comics from the 40's or 50's. After all is said and done, they are still reprints. I actually prefer my comics from India that are not reprints of American content and they are in English so I can read them.

McFarlane is overrated. Simple as that. He draws cartoon-like expressions and bodies contorted into impossible positions. He's overdramatic with the use of capes and costume accessories. I'm not impressed by any of the artists that formed Image. It's not "hate". I'm completely apathetic towards it.

Funny you mention 40s or 50s, I just bought a Swedish Batman #1 from 1950.

they are novelty for you, but serious collecting for some. To each is their own.

McFarlane may be overrated but here you are still talking about him instead of whoever you think is underrated....

I like the Indian comics I have a few i like those too.

but back to 1990s hard to find books......

Swedish Batman#1 is cool. Of course I'm still talking about McFarlane. You accused me of being a "hater" which simply isn't an accurate assessment. I own some McFarlane comics. I just don't see anything that warrants all the praise he gets.

On the topic of McFarlane... I submit this relatively HTF TPB...

Evidently, I have three of these now.

how much do those cost that is pretty cool...

its ok not to like some artists, we all do it.

you have 3 would you be interested in selling one??

Yes and no... but I'm going to say no due to the chaos going on around me. If I change my mind at some point I'll let you know. I was trying to get two set of the Diamond Limited TPB's and couldn't pass up a third one of this when the opportunity came it's way. Price really varies on these because people don't know it exists or even what it is. If I sold it for what I think it's worth and you found one a month later for $15.. you'd be a little irritated. Try to find a better bargain than I'd want to give.

  8. I looked for this around the time it should have come out and had no luck. Years later it was given to me as a gift.

    Valiant promo comic...

    nn_Cheesasaurus_Rex_535px.png

Those other books are more rare, for sure. I think this was the first ever Valiant made book; other books to find that are quite rare are the variants of the Nintendo Hardcovers.

Also, the 4 TPB books are pretty tough to find, and good buys anywhere south of $20: "Mario Special Powers", "Koopa Kids", "Battle against Bowser" and "Tantaga Invades Earth".

If you can find them in high grade, jump on them, they basically don't exist!

I strongly disagree with the 4 books listed above being rare overall. There are tons and tons or warehouse overstock of the "Valiant Illustrated Action Books" out there. The 4 Nintendo ones are named above, there are also WWF ones. The have appeared by the palette-load at stores like "Odd Lot" and "Building 19" here in the northeast. They are on eBay all the time. I've found that one of the 4 appears less than the other three Nintendo ones.

Now, many do have price stickers and have been stored improperly, so finding 9.8s can be really tough despite them being plentiful. I agree on that point. I have yet to get 9.8s on most of them and have settled for 9.6s and 9.4s.

Also, we use VIAB instead of TPB to talk about these books. This allows us to distinguish them from the "real" Nintendo softcover TPBs by Valiant.

On the subject of those early promotional Valiant pamphlets, they can be hard to come by. Nearly all of the supply we have was limited to a single seller who had cleaned out the Valiant offices when they closed. The KFC one in both Spanish and English falls into this category as well.

I'm inclined to agree emphatically that they are NOT rare by any means. Hard to find in many areas... YES. Obviously, if one person had pallets of them, that's a stockpile that isn't available in the market anywhere else. I was trying to complete my Nintendo collection when everyone else was driving up the prices of the superhero stuff in the 90's. Most of the $1.50 reprints just weren't available in my area locally. I eventually gave up. My hardcover Nintendo books came from a toy store. I believe it was KB Toys. They were already on clearance when I discovered they existed in 1992 or so. My WWF Action series books came from one comic shop that simply ordered everything.

I've often wondered how rare the H.A.R.D. Corps promo posters are. I know I have both the blue and black border versions. I would assume blue is more rare.
