  1. Does anyone here know why Showcase #24 9.0 sold for so much in the Nov. 21 Heritage auction?  It went for a staggering $16,800 when GPA reports a 9.0 sale in September 2018 for $5800   Quite a jump in one year and there are 7 copies in 9.0

My notes from the auction: -CGC census 8/19: 7 in 9.0, none higher. b/c has pcs out top spine; impacted corner?    tiny tear/pc out lower left b/c  (from print roller pull?); lots 1/8"spine stress f/c  including two 1/4";  lt 1/2" rt cor

The only two things I can think of are an upcoming movie connection or 2 collectors in hot hot pursuit, and in that case, a one off sale

I think it was 96K don't remember if that included the juice or not but there was an 8.5 a few months back that got about 125K.  If you looked at the labels only you'd think that collector interest was down but then if you see the actual books the 96K copy has a big letter stamp on it.

Hope this copies ok.  It did include the BP plus enough wear to justify the grade-guess the stamp is a bonus.  Lol

When the back cover image is enlarged. is that pen writing/erasures on the boy's wrist or am I seeing things?  Could be why it had previously been graded an 8.5?   I also noted: lower spine corner off     both spine corners cr?/color loss ....not easy deciding what you think a scan of a comic through layers of plastic is showing

Neatoh!!!!  Thanks for showing.  Never seen that before.  I see what you mean about the angle change.   But Hokey Pokey, where's his right foot?

We're all familiar with GL's weakness to the colour yellow as evidenced by that yellow missile on the Aussie cover you were kind to display but I can't help wondering if he has another achilles heel. Maybe his right foot is photo shy LOL

I just loaded some of my Australian Flash so while I had the box out I took a photo of this. If you also look closely it is slightly different. Not just some inking and colors but the missile position has changed to allow for titling. SC 23 and 24 are also here not sure about GL 1 but GL from 2 on was actually sold here so GL was no longer printed here. This is from maybe 6 months (or less) after SC 22 was published in the US.

Could this 9.0 be the same copy that Doc Joe posted as an 8.5 all the way back on page 3 of this same thread? (a little hard to tell because the 8.5 picture is small, but some similarities on outer right edge and the spine)

I'm probably hallucinating but do I see faint pen/writing on the boy's wrist on the back cover ad?  If so, did the Doc Joe 8.5 copy also have this but more importantly, I can't believe it got graded 9.0 if it is pen because I know the grading people dislike erasures.  Hope my link to the Heritage auction works and is helpful, otherwise you know where to find it...

  7. The Living Tribunal is a fictional cosmic entity appearing in American comic books published by Marvel Comics. The character first appeared in Strange Tales #157 (June 1967) and was created by Stan Lee, Marie Severin, and Herb Trimpe.

I got this from a google search for "  first appearance of The One Above All"      Does it help?  It's certainly the oldest of the comics you suggested.

  8. I'm probably one of many who has pointed this out to Overstreet.  At the time this book came out, oil fires were a hot topic for movies.  Let's see, what comes up aflame from a pipe in the ground....atomic radiation, of course....
