Sorry about that Ian! If it's any consolation, posting in Serendip pulls me back as well! So many stories still to tell...

Luckily for us, we only came on the scene about 100,000 years ago! Megalodon's skeleton consisted of cartilage rather than bone, so the only things to survive were its teeth. They were assumed to be the teeth of dragons, until someone figured out they had belonged to a giant shark around 1600 A.D.

holy moly Megalodon! It was the largest shark that ever lived. Bigger than a trailer truck, it weighed about 100 tons and its jaws were lined with over 250 serrated teeth. Each tooth was 7 inches long and it ate whales for breakfast. It had the most powerful bite of any creature that ever lived—6 times stronger than the bite of a Tyrannosaurus Rex! It swam in the oceans 17 million years ago, the top predator of its day. Fortunately for whales, it became extinct about 2 million years ago.

Thanks Mike! Dinosaurs are the essence of cool aren't they? These artists bring them so vividly to life, it is hard to accept that they have been gone so long.
