  1. It's my fault. I've been after a nice copy for 20 years and passed on any number of lesser copies - several on Heritage in the recent past. It's certainly my favorite of the ones I don't already have, and the only Whitman Planet cover I now need. But overall I think I prefer #71, #72 and Man O' Mars. So I kept a lot in reserve and didn't bid on a lot of others I might have to make sure of it. I thought it might possibly hit $1500, and I put way more than that on it via proxy. For a few seconds I was winning at around $850, then it just took off and kept going. I suppose it's because it's highest graded, but at 7.5 that status is vulnerable. As for #71, I'd say that one went for about double what I'd've expected. Anyway, here are my Whitmans, sans #66. (I'll get that sucker one day!)
  2. One of my very favorite Bakers. Being in the UK I suspect I never even saw some of the ones he sold before they went. I'd certainly have been all over that one. (Got an undercopy by any chance?) I thought his prices were very inconsistent. I only got these two. I find them doubly appealing because they are self evidently not pressed. I like them just as they are.
  3. I am very envious of that 29. It is a book I want to upgrade, my cgc 3.0 has some rather bad fading/tanning to it. Grats! Such a gorgeous book. I used to own a very decent raw copy and did my usual thing of selling it before I'd upgraded. Cant recall exactly when that was - probably four years at least. If I remember rightly Kelly also has a nice one - but I think it's a fairly tough book. I'll look out for you. I'm better at finding books for other people than for myself!
  4. This one is duly noted also - great pick up!
  5. Unfortunately, the later issues went too crazy, but very happy to have picked up a couple of "consolation prizes" from mikephoen and Mr Bedrock overnight. These will do nicely - thanks guys!
  6. Overall I was delighted to pick up the ones I did from Heritage. This cover has long been a favorite.
  7. Sorry not to have stayed on top of this thread. So may things I want to post, so much gets in my way.... It was the summer of 2006...the Muslim festival of Eid, and the girls all decided to get dressed up in their finest...sisters, cousins, daughters and mothers...and a rather reluctant brother...my elective family... 8. The DM #10 looked fairly nice considering how much wear that cover shows. I paid a heavy price for mine but I've never regretted it. Same with this one - they make nice book ends. Scans don't do this one justice at all.
  9. Just the #14 and #15. Presumably the whole set didn't sell and they broke it up? I didn't make the connection until you pointed it out. Couldn't find that original listing. They do flatter to deceive though. The #14 has a spine split to the top staple. The #15 has had the covers reattached with four hand tipped paper tabs on the inside. But then they wouldn't have been better than good anyway with the punch holes! They both present exceptionally well though, which is refreshing! The #15 is especially nice in hand. Still have to decide whether to go for cheetah's and trade this in!
