  1. But as you know Jack, since Gerber's day we have come to a better understanding of what is scarce and what is not!
  2. probably PL 17 Do you buy into the notion that the cover may not be by Baker after all? no I guess that if even Vadeboncoeur thinks it is, it probably is. (A lot of other Baker GGA covers I like better, though. ) I never seen good reason to question Baker being the artist. Who are they suggesting as an alternate? Taking a quick scan through the other covers, I don't think that there's the high level of artistic consistency that you would later see in Baker's St. John work. That may be partly due to his maturing as an artist and partly due to working as part of the Iger shop assembly line where other hands might have touched part of the drawing. It's not my favorite Baker cover but I certainly understand why it's tops for so many. It's a vexed question isn't it? Even much of the St John work shows the influence of lesser hands. The later covers would seem to be pure Baker, many but not all of the stories. A lot of his work for Fiction House seems unadulterated. This really is a fleeting recollection, so please don't hold me to it, but I believe the argument suggested that the PL #17 cover might have been the product of a jam session by Baker and Kamen. Cant recall why though! But I do think a lot of what is currently ascribed to Baker isn't entirely by his hand.

  5. probably PL 17 Do you buy into the notion that the cover may not be by Baker after all? no Eloquently put.
  6. Delighted to have another copy of this tough issue after selling my previous copy a year ago. (This is actually an upgrade!) Nice paper and gloss are its saving graces.
  7. #66 and #72 look very pretty also - and you don't often see such deep reds on a #22!

  9. Almost impossible to find these in more rarefied grades - these copies are about as good as they ever come. Great coup, Richard. For the sake of completeness, perhaps I should mention there is a truevision story in #59 also, and it has a weird puppet cover. Thanks Mike. I am looking for 51 and 59 as well as the True-Visions in other ACG titles. I saw one of the Lovelorns in Chicago and have dibs on it when it sells. Darn I used to have the romance ones in nice shape but sold them long ago. If I see any I'll let you know.
  10. I was thinking the same thing while going through these scans. What a wonderful set of covers! Great seeing them all together like that. Thanks for posting those Billy!
  11. It actually adds to the interest. Some people specifically collect mis-registered covers. A mis-registered double cover may be close to unique, especially in this grade. (I certainly cant think of another.) Plus this copy has beautiful colors, which all of us FH geeks highly prize. Extraordinary book!

  13. Glad you finally got it! He was one happy Geek in Chicago. So happy, I think he bought a second copy. Yes, gator was in high spirits after that pick-up, but I think it was the impromptu serenade at Maria's that made his weekend. not as scary as pons singing in the shower If you would stop peeking at me in the shower, you wouldn't be so scared all the time Eeek
  14. Is that the copy I "helped" you win by not telling the world and his wife it was on Ebay? Looks very pretty in the case - good move! Unfortunately that eBay copy is my under copy (1.5/1.8) This copy was a more recent purchase (thumbs u I don't know how you do it!

  16. That's fairly consistent with my experience. I have a Fight #35 with the same qualities and was delighted it came back 7.0. They seem less harsh on small spine splits than, say, small back cover stains. Great book by the way!
  17. Wow Rick great pick up, rarely seen book. What is the Gerber rating on this one? Gerber 11........... Yes, Gerber goes to 11. Great capture Rick! If it is a Gerber 11 I may have to wait a little while before another turns up. There was a restored copy on Heritage a while back, but I didnt see it until too late.
  18. I've admired that one for a long time as well. Glad now I didn't bid agin' you!
  19. Blind Owl!!! Bunky!!! Fuelman!!! Why I oughta...
