  1. The Everett stories are the highlight of the first half of the AMF run with Wolverton's incredible Space Patrol the highlight of the later half. Not sure who on the Boards first posted these examples but here are 3 pages with colors muted by the camera: Thanks for posting - those are great!
  2. They will take some topping wont they? Maybe we'll just need to have a run off between them in December!
  3. Matt baker certainly has a strong following, and his books, in nice shape, do command more today, than "yesterday"... but, they are still very reasonable, for the most part That is the key... I've yet to see some of the really nice covers offered for sale in any kind of "nice" shape... Even the Sparklecity auction a couple weeks ago that garnered ridiculous prices didn't have the keys in anything higher than F+. The non key nice covers were in grade, I will grant you that, but the others were not and still got huge price tags. As Dr Love has pointed out, for some Bakers the only high grade copies may be the Church copies -- wherever they may be. I think someone mentioned that even some/many of the Church copies may not be high grade. I'm not sure whether the print runs on the St John issues were low or collectors had little interest in them until recently. But for whatever reason, the census count is pretty thin on some of them. Perhaps that will change as higher prices bring more copies to market. Others here are way more knowledgeable than I about this including GAtor but I believe Edgar's supplier did not carry everything, including St John romance owing to poor distribution, forcing him to pick up copies elsewhere - maybe even second hand. As to GAtor's assessment of prices/values, I think it echoes what romance collectors know - it is really only the best Baker covers that have surged in value, and this does not appear to have dragged up values overall, even on high grade copies, barring the obvious contenders. Sooner or later that semi-mythical high grade CL #25 everyone hopes for will turn up and then we will see some fireworks - but it still wont affect prices on average Baker covers, if there is such a thing! And average copies of average Baker covers now turn up with regularity, where 10 years ago they did not - at least on ebay or in catalogues.
  4. Beautiful! Contender for comic of the year.
  5. Looking forward to it. You have posted some great books (thumbs u Suck up This cover haunts me.
  6. One of my favorite Superior horror covers! Hilarious cover - he is one suave guy.
  7. I could really only speak for folks that have bought from me...a company like metro, clink, heritage could give a better ball park.... I would guess the number of folks that spend 5 figs on a comic number in the hundreds, maybe even low thousands... Yeah, yeah, I get the message - just one of the crowd.
  8. 4) all of the above To summarize, a cute nurse wearing kewl sportswear and magical shoes, carrying an oxygen cylinder. Get's my vote too!
  9. alanna posted the 8.0 I sold him fairly recently...I have a Fn copy too, but can't find scan... I'm thinking circumtance's copy might be even nicer than the one you sold me.
  10. Yeah Wertham missed an opportunity to boost the campaign for animal rights on this one. Poor pooch! "Giggle. Hee hee hee. Ha ha ha!"
  11. I was assured I was next in line for the book if the "first buyer" returned it. I'll buy that for a dollar! Well, maybe 50 cents.
  12. that means it would take me about 40 years by comparison. By then it would be known as the Methuselah Collection. My master plan is to stand on street corners and ask passersby if they have any... alanna at Speakers' Corner in Hyde Park asking for Centaurs... brilliant! Well it has as much chance of success as asking dealers! They're all collecting the darn things!

  14. Except for oriental femmes fatales. (Or so I'm told.)
  15. To say mine is "top census" would I think have little impact here, even though it does glow in the dark. Going by what is posted in this thread, most Centaur collectors seem to prefer them raw. I'm willing to bet that my copy is topped by a fair few others - some of them owned by fellow boardies. One has to approach Centaur collecting with a suitable degree of humility. Hence we cant rely on GPA and all we have to go on is the experience of collectors who have sought them out over - say - the past quarter century. Still struggling to picture JB as a pup...
  16. Don't slip on any banana skins before I see you next! (thumbs u
  17. My only other Centaur happens to be the adjacent issue. I love this cover too and feel privileged to have a copy thanks to G.A.tor. I'd love to have the other Arrow and Mad Ming covers but one has to be realistic about these things. Perhaps I will luck into one or two more, perhaps not. In any case these two go into that small part of my collection I consider permanent.
  18. You were there when the deal went down I know. I didn't want to steal you thunder. When Pons unleashes the thunder I don't want to be anywhere near it. it'll be fartuitous if you avoid it. Fartunately I cant yet speak from experience, only hearsay. The problem isn't the fart so much as the resultant spray of particulate matter. In other words, it isn't the thunder, it's the lightning. Whoa, close call! I was standing right next to him for an hour at the show! Reminds me of that explosive story, "Murder, methane and me."
  19. the ming trio are some of my favorite centaurs: Great books Rick - I'd love to get copies of the other two Mad Ming covers one day!
