Here's to hoping that the upcoming flick will be lights out. Not like AF15 needs it to be, but been a while since we've been thrilled across the board by a Spidey movie... since Spidey 2 maybe.
Cool. Actual talk about Spiderman and wove it into AF15.

the price of AF 15 relative to the (# of minimum wage hours) (% of the average American income) (% of the price of a new 4-door Sedan) etc. makes the price increases of the last 10 years untenable for the next 10 years, or next year for that matter.

Wouldn't the last 8-9 years be more accurate? Pre 2008 everything seemed much cheaper. It's in less than the last decade that we've seen exponential appreciation (at least in the collectibles that I've been aware of - cars, comics, card, art).
It's ironic you point out 2008. I stopped collecting when I was a teen. I hauled around 2 long boxes of premiere stuff for years (Spawn #1, Death of Sup, Gen 13 #1, Wolvie Mini #1). In 2008, my buddy got me back into collecting. I was nearly 30 at the time. A few searches on eBay and my jaw dropped...not because my Gen 13 wasn't a $50 book anymore, but because comics were everywhere at astronomical prices (when compared to 15 years prior). And this crazy encapsulation, 3rd party grading system??? What was this all about? The bug hit me and I dove in head first. But being an E-6 in the military at the time and trying to support a family, ASM 300, Hulk 181, GSX 1, etc, were about the most I could afford. I fell in love with Spidey again, though. ASM 1 in about a 6.0 was a few grand. AF15 became my grail of grails, a 4.0 was about 4K if I remember correctly. Fast forwarding nearly 10 years, I'm making considerably more income, but the price equivalent of AF15 compared to the increase in my income has left me in about the same place. I was able to finally acquire my AF15, though (thanks Bob!). No point to my story. Just wanted to reminisce. Have a great day, Roy.

Graders notes

spine wear breaks color
whole book fixing
I wonder what "whole book fixing" is. Realignment of the spine, maybe?

I use a hole punch. Quick and easy
At this rate, removing the cover altogether and replacing with a color copy on loose leaf might be best.

What was said here is that the price is affected in the 10% to 30% value range based on the amount of MC.
Thanks, but I'm not asking about price. I'm asking how to describe light vs. moderate vs. heavy chipping. For example, is a single, 1/4" chip or 1 or 2 pre-chips up to 10% of the edge considered "light", 10% to 1/3 considered moderate, and 1/3 to 100% considered heavy? I'm just using that as an example of what I'm trying to clarify.

Don't think the buyer purchased it hopping it will improve he simply purchased the book for what it is. We will see more of this and doubters will accept the new AF15 price reality.
I don't think so either. That was my point.

I'm curious how the pros describe degrees of chipping. I've often heard light, moderate, and heavy used, but haven't found a solid definition. The one SC22 mentioned that just sold on CL has chipping on roughly 50% (cumulative) of the edge. Is this "heavy" or "moderate"?

The AF15 CGC 5.0 with a lot of MC on ComicLink sold this evening for 36 000$ (based on what was said here that means it sold for 30% less than a copy with no MC....so a little over 51 000$)!!
10K a point up to 6.0 now seems about right for books with no MC.
I was expecting it to go for around 30K. I was shocked it ended at 36K. It didn't appear to have room for improvement based on the pics.

So a while ago on this board I said I was getting my Amazing Fantasy 15 signed by Stan Lee at Fan Expo. Well about 2 months ago I got it back from CGC....
Finding out it had a tiny bit of trimming was disappointing, but I cant be too upset because of such a good deal I got it for, would have been way to good to be true if it had no restoration. Glad to own this in my collection though, my ASM run wouldn't be complete without it
Regardless of the resto, it presents very nice for the grade!

brain fart on my part. I meant submitter, not presser. I submitted through a local comic shop until last month when I just went ahead and got my own account.
I experimented with cracking the ToS 52 myself and ended up gouging my kitchen table with a screwdriver. I've since figured out how to do it and cracked my Avengers 4, ASM 6 and 15 myself with no issues.
Thus, our hobby can actually be dangerous. We're kinda bad boys (and girls) who like to live dangerously.

Swamp Thing #1 - 8.0 to 8.5
Tales of Suspense #52 - 5.0 to 5.5
Tales of Suspense #57 - 5.0 to 5.5
Daredevil #158 - 9.0 to 9.6 (This one was pressed, so bit of a skew here)
Amazing Spider-Man #238 - 9.2 to 9.6
Marvel Super-Heroes #13 - 7.0 to 7.5
These aren't exactly mind-blowing differences in grades, but they signal to me that the grades are very close in general and likely within the margin of error. I don't know what happened with ASM 238, but I'm not complaining.
I also have an Avengers 4, ASM 6 and 15 that are former CBCS books being pressed and resubmitted. No idea how those will turn out.
The 4x .5 differences between the companies doesn't hurt my brain, but the fact that they all went up .5 when sub'd to CGC is interesting.
The ASM 238 though... that's quite a difference from a NM- to a NM+.
