  1. I think the main reason the cover is not liked by some is because it's lacking a lot of color and Iron Man is not really in a dynamic pose. Later covers with the gold suit were more dynamic and probably why Stan wanted the gold suit and changed the suit repeatedly over the years. I love the cover though. As Tortoise said, it could be a pre-hero cover. It's very understated. I cherish my TOS 39 and have wanted to own one ever since seeing one as a kid. I agree other covers are more dynamic and might be better (such as JIM 83, AF15). But look at Hulk 1...it's king of the same thing... FF 1 was the best in terms of action and being colorful with dynamics. I'm still waiting to get one of those one day...(not likely though).
  2. That's interesting. There are other members on this forum who have copies. I believe and so does Filter81 and also Captain trips (schmell) with an incredible copy. But they just haven't posted in this thread.
  3. +1 I agree with this and have followed this line of thinking. I have a few 9.4 TOS but the higher grade books I sought out are in 8.5-9.2 range.
  4. It's way cool that you and your son can share this hobby the way you do. Oh, and the room looks great too I agree! It's very cool to share the hobby with your son! I wish I had a room like that when I was 7.
  5. Hey there Tortoise, the TOS 39 is tucked behind the three standing slabs. The entire TOS run is behind the Avengers 1, 4 and JIM 83. Iron man 1 and 2 in fortresses, Sgt fury 1, 13 and some raw early raw IM dupes im thinking of selling on the small shelf
  6. Thanks and the ideas really came from Oakman29 and Chromium. I just stole it. I am really happy about how it looks. Unfortunately I couldn't get the same color holders as they ran out of the brown but it's no big deal. I need to get some more later this week.
  7. I am planning on using 2 - 4 cube Expedit units in brown black with white magazine drawers for my collection. Page 80 of the 2011 catalog That's what I did, easy access, works great. Here's the Master of comic shelves. Chromium a board member. Thank you to Oakman29 and Chromium for the great ideas. Here is what I spent my afternoon doing. My daughter helped me with the cutting, gluing and even the little Iron Man's on the top of the boxes. I'm almost done and need 3 more holders to finish holding the rest of my Iron man run and Sgt. Fury run. I'll finish it next weekend. I freakin love it! Thanks!!
  8. I bought two nice Journey into Mystery's from Dan and they were as described and are great. Buy with confidence with Dan.
  9. I am planning on using 2 - 4 cube Expedit units in brown black with white magazine drawers for my collection. Page 80 of the 2011 catalog Thanks! I'm going to go check that out this weekend!
  10. Can anyone recommend a cabinet with drawers that can store raw SA comics? Something inexpensive perhaps from IKEA? I have about 500 raw comics all in mylars that I would like to remove from long boxes and put them in a cabinet or piece of furniture that has drawers that I can safely store the raw comics. I appreciate all suggestions. Thanks
  11. I got the JIM 83 the other day while traveling and just got home to unleash it from the box. (now that is some out of context thread win right there) Very presentable for the grade. Nice PQ And now with the family (others await in the long box condo)
  12. I just got home to open the box that contained..... My JIM 83 in hand and let me tell you it's much nicer than the scans or pics the guy gave me. Great PQ and the back is very clean. Some staining/smudging on the front cover and some chips but a very presentable 2.5 in my opinion. I agree with the grade from what I can see. Here is a small sample of my JIM run. Mostly Good to VF range (few VFs )
  13. Here's how great my girl is...she allowed them in our BEDROOM. That's very cool of her. My wife allowed my guitar gear in our bedroom. A Marshall stack and guitars on the walls. That's as far as she will go with my stuff.
  14. I'd love to have a few of those racks but i'd have no place to put them where my wife would be happy.
  15. Everyone is accused of being a shill when first joining this place... until proven otherwise. It's seems to be a right of passage when joining this place...
  16. I thought it was a great idea.
  17. Death threats are not characteristic of this community, so this community doesn't need any improvement on that basis. Ok, the authority has spoken. Let's shut this thread down and delete it. No need to discuss anything else moving forward. (said with tongue firmly in cheek). Just because they aren't posted in Comics General or made public on the forum doesn't mean other threats like this don't occur and occur more than you think. I was once threatened to be beat up here. I didn't say anything about it because I was brand new and quite honestly...didn't know what to do. I put the user on ignore and they turned out to be a shill anyway that disappeared quickly. Don't think it doesn't pop in my mind when i'm walking on a dark street sometimes. It's never fun to have a threat either in-person or written. It has a negative effect that could be paranoia or exagerated but nonetheless doesn't take away the anxiety associated with getting a threat like that.
  18. Thanks CAL. I'm really not in anyone's camp,,,not CALs or F_T or others.... I'm in the camp of just making this place a better community for us all to visit. Some here think it's fine just the way it is. They can operate the way they have for years and because it's tolerated...it's okay. Change will always have its detractors. It's not easy and people avoid change like the plague. But, change can be a positive sometimes. Either way, i'd like to dream that the CGC forum could be a kinder gentler place...but then I woke up.
  19. Charging hundreds of dollars for a forum membership is not realistic. The most I have seen at any forum is a yearly membership of $25 to $50. Anything more is cost prohibitive to many.
  20. Skypinkblu posted something quite easy and involves no cost to implement... Have a waiting period for new joining members and also limit new members joining on the weekend. All new members are to be approved by the mods first. This is standard at a musician forum I frequent and we don't have any of the issues that happen here. The cost of time for the mods will be affected to some degree but at least we won't have the random shills that seem to come and go with different threads (depending on the topic). It won't get rid of threats or rude people but would help with the shills popping up all the time. Either way, something should be done to improve this community. Death threats just shouldn't be happening or tolerated in any way, shape or form.
  21. I never dreamed I'd need to bring a stun gun and brass knuckes to a con.... Now I remember the guy at SDCC who go a pencil to the eye. Ouch... Lots of psychos out there unfortunately.
  22. Holy is that video funny. That is the next future star of Cat Hoarders on TV.
