  1. I grew up in about 20 min from Grissom Air Force Base in Kokomo Indiana. I never bought comics on the base, but in local shops in surrounding towns. I have a very modest collection, but a lot of the news stand issues I have from my childhood are Mark Jeweler; except my ASM 300 and NM 98 of course! They were not a thing back then, but it makes me wonder how many MJs I brushed by flipping through long boxes in grade school and Jr High.
  2. I didn’t think my name was funny until I got to grade school and they called me Lance Romance, Lancealot, Lancealittle, and my favorite AmbuLance.
  3. My name is Lance, I’m an artist and restauranteur from the Midwest. In December I retrieved 3 long boxes of comics from my parents that had been sitting untouched since 1990. My grade school self did quite well collecting and to my surprise I found many of the hottest comics on the market right now. I fully intended on cashing them in, but while re-bagging and logging them I had a realization…..As an artist myself: Kirby, Neal Adams, Byrne, Starlin, Miller, Sienkiewicz, McFarlane, Wringston and many others had more of an influence on my work and life than Michelangelo, Van Gogh, Klimt, Dali, or any of the others I studied in art school ever could. I can honestly say Ive completely fallen back down the collecting rabbit hole. I am here to look, learn, buy, maybe sell and just be part of this community again. Looking forward to it. Thanks.
  4. I agree with most folks here that the Miller wave got high with Daredevil and Wolverine, with the crest for me being Dark Knight, Elektra Assassin, Born Again, all in 86? And Year One in 87. Everything after that just does not achieve the high water mark, so it’s easy to be disappointed. I don’t know that I think Elektra lives again, 300, or the first few Sin City storylines “ suck”, they just are not peak Miller. I just got back into comics this year and picked up Master Race, Not sure if it sucks, just seems average, which for an 80s Miller kid is disappointing.
  5. I have a couple of books from my childhood collection that were water damaged when the local comic shop flooded. I bought them for a dollar each in the fire sale that followed. I was in grade school but was smart enough to make sure they were completely dry before bagging. They both are warped, but no stained pages or mildew and the colors inside and out are vibrant 40 years later.
