Mighty World of Marvel #198 CGC 9.2 (1976 UK version of 1st appearance of Wolverine!) with Herb Trimple autograph! Highest Grade CGC in existence plus it has the original Hulk 181 artist signature on the cover! RARE!!!!! The highest recorded grade ever shown on GPA was a 9.0 that sold for $700 and the last lowly FN/VF 7.0 signed by Herb Trimpe sold for $1,000! HGCGC #1 copy on the plant to the 1976 UK presenting the 1st Wolverine, just $1,099 $975, BELOW the lowly signed 7.0 price and barely more than the 9.0 price although being the SINGLE HIGHEST GRADE ever graded should be many multiples of that price! Fantastic Four #65 CGC 6.0, very nice looking cop, 90 day GPA $94 and prior 12 months $89 with a Guardians movie coming up next year! Just $85! Inhumans #1 1975 CGC perfect 9.8 White Pages! So I have seen books with nothing but re-glossing noted on the label, or cleaning. I know CGC has also called restored books with nothing more than color touch and pieces replaced as also "re-glossed" when nothing of the sort was done to it, probably their better safe than sorry motto to make sure they don't miss anything. (had some books restored by Hero restoration and this happened to me a few times). So, any ideas how an average collector can tell if a book has been "re-glossed" or cleaned? Seems like those are probably the two most difficult things to detect for the average joe (except maybe professionally done micro trimming?)

So I have quite a bit of experimentation experience grading the same books from both grading companies in the past for comparison. From personal experience, CGC will grade extremely harshly any book arriving in a PGX label for re-grading. I know you save 50% off the costs, but its like they want to punish you for sending them a PGX slab or something and I will NEVER do it again! I had a restored ultra Key Pro restored by Matt Nelson back in the day at 7.5 by CGC. Sent it to PGX to see what it would get, also got a 7.5, sent it back to CGC in the PGX label, came back 7.0 with C amature restoration designation (same pro work by Matt Nelson)! Same thing on another book restored by one of the very best pro's that almost always gets A work and never below 5.0 after restoration (ever!), they gave it a 4.0 with C designation his lowest grade by far and 1st time ever getting C instead of A or B work! I have to conclude this was just because it came in a PGX 6.5 restored label they were biased against, no other explanation! If I ever want CGC grading on a PGX book, I will crack it open and send it in raw so it does not get destroyed by this harsh/unfair grading, not worth the 50% grading fee discount! By the way, I had 2 silver age key books at 9.0 by CGC, thought they deserved 9.2, so I sent them to PGX for an experiment thinking 9.2+ was a lock and they both came back lower at 8.5, so PGX is actually at least sometimes a bit tougher in those grade ranges, I have heard many other people also getting higher grades from CGC in VF+ to NM ranges after cracking PGX open (but Never send it in the original PGX holder!) That is why we always preach to buy the book, not the slab! Buy comics based on how it looks, not just the sometimes harsh or loose label designation that depends on who is personally grading it (out of 100+ graders) and having a good vs bad day etc! Regarding PGX historically loose grading in the lower grade ranges, late last year I complained to PGX that they were grading their lower grades too loose compared to competitors, Daniel said he was already considering upping their standards and sure enough the lot of lower grade key books I sent them recently came back at the very least 1/2 grade and sometimes 1 full grade lower than their previous standards, so if the grading date is from this year forward, I think you are more likely getting a grade a bit closer to CGC standards on the lower range than in the past. (traditionally their weakest grading range). Their color touch and trimming detection is pretty solid (the most common resto stuff), but CGC is far better at catching some of harder to detect pro stuff, so beware you take a bit of risk on the big dollar (blue label) major keys in a PGX holder.

CGC 2.5 small amount of color touch on cover. Spent forever with my black light and could only find 2 very thin black lines on the lower right corner on a thin crease. If that is it, can't imagine digging it out would affect the grade, but I am not a risk taker. The last two sales of a 2.5 in this grade with color touch only was $1,200 and $1,095 back in 2015! CGC 1.0, near perfect off White pages, spine is split, cover detached, no marvel chipping or sizable missing pieces makes this about the nicest presenting 1.0 you will ever find. The last GPA sale in this grade was $2,250 and trending up, last 12 months was $2,100. Cheapest I could find anywhere online! Batman Killing Joke CGC 9.8 1st priting, Joker breaks Batgirls back and cripples her for life (later becoming Oracle) $159 Below every GPA average price in every period dating back as far as they track!

SOLD Avengers #55 CGC 9.6 Investment grade 1st appearance of Ultron! Ultron is reportedly becoming a major arch enemy/recurring role villain on the Vision/Scarlet Witch Disney live action series later this year! Only $625! 12 month GPA $810! (Almost $200 BELOW GPA for in investment grade beauty that is raring to take off with the live action series announcement!) SOLD Batman #47 GD/GD+ Key 1st Detailed Origin Batman! $565 Its lower grade with the corner piece out, but nice pages and good looking cover, cover detached at bottom staple, some edge and spine tears. I have a scan of a CGC Hulk 1 that got CGC Gd+ with a missing corner piece at least as large as this one (See scan for comparison), so I think my grade range is accurate given the rest of the book is complete, bright/glossy and shows well for grade otherwise (plus CGC grades golden age easier than silver age!). The last Batman 47 2.5 sold for $1,188 and the last 2.0 sold for $825. The lowest price on record for a complete book is $525 for a tattered, dirty and torn up 1.0 so my asking price is about on par with the going price for a 1.0 and this solid book is far closer to 2.0/2.5 than 1.0, so its a freaking steal at my asking price and already Well Below what I paid for this book, so don't low ball me like the last guy that just offered $250, LOL!!! Doom Patrol 99 CGC VF 8.0 ow to White pages, Sharp High Grade! Key 1st Beast Boy from Teen Titans! Averaged $750 in 2018 (high of $875) and $563 in 2019, 1 recent lower sale abnormality dragged it down a bit. Clearing out my very nice/clean VF copy out at just $449 AT WELL BELOW GPA AND MY COST! MSH 18 1st Guardains of the Galaxy CGC FN+ but book looks far nicer than a VF- of the same book I had. The overhang on the right edge is slightly bent in, this would press out easily and I would bet money this is at least a 7.5 or maybe even 8.0 with a press and resubmit! New art creative team, new origin, new direction, considered Wonder Woman #1 as the 1st Silver Age issue! Wonder Woman #98 CGC 3.0, complete, attached and quite attractive for the grade with many VG qualities! I think it has at least 1/2 grade bump or so potential with a press and resub. 2018 GPA $1,205 and 2019 GPA $1,061. If it gets a slight bump at 3.5, the GPA is much more robust at $1,567 in 2019 and the same for the past 12 months! This book is scarce, the only 2 sales in the past 90 days include both record prices $2,999 for a 5.0 and $335 for a .5 incomplete and no back cover copy! I believe the new WW movie coming out this summer is bringing this Key issue back into the spotlight! Fire Sale Priced at just $799! That is barely double the price for an incomplete copy missing the back cover just sold a couple days ago (per GPA) and nearly 1/4th the price the record price of the $3K 5.0 that just recently sold also!
