Somewhat related since this is the Western thread, I have been enjoying tremendously a set of late 1970's radio shows about the Gunsmoke radio show complete with interviews with the main principals of the original show: writers, producers, directors and actors. It provides a nice look at the show both from the content and production angle. Should be of interest to some here. I ran across it in the Podcast feed of the Jack Benny OTR Podcast. First purchase in a loooong time. Nothing to roost about though. The curse of the completist but a sub-10 issue of Western Comics nonetheless -

Reading the book, I saw his art as midway between Toth and Canniff, though a little more tilted to Canniff.

I just finished the complete Adventures of Dieter Lumpen put out by IDW - http://euro.idwpublishing.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/12/Dieter_Lumpen.jpg Many wonderful panels I got lost looking at. Not surprised the artist was tapped to take over the Corto Maltese franchise. Story-wise, the shorts are somewhat rough. The long stories a little better but still not quite fully realized.

Whatever the Master said. That's exactly the case. However, this was not a post-code issue, still pre-code (unless it appeared in some random IW publication and I didn't check on that ... though didn't IW mostly reprint from Avon, no?)

Almost. It's the opposite in fact. I should have been more carefully in my post. Though the pages are listed as Firehair, this is a reused story from an earlier Rangers issue (# 20 something IIRC). The printed page are before the art has been reworked. The retouch not only lengthened her outfit but also some text was edited. The reprint occurred closer to Wertham's era and the editors were playing it safer. Good eye, sir

Looks more like Elias than Lubbers to my non-professional eyes. Among multiple differences in styles (thickness of long ink lines, dotting in the branches, etc.), the one that stand out in my mind is the many ink lines in Firehair's hair which is much more Elias than Lubbers. Lubbers generally define the shape of the hair and will let color define folds while Elias inks in all hair meshes and threads.
