I do a lot of work with HERO and am taking care of the discussions. We believe that there are some other things Joe can draw that will bring in more money for the Charity and more money to take care of creators is better than less. The funds will go 100% to the Hero Initiative and there shouldn't be any third party profit taking. Of course, the Charity will send you a letter to let you know they have received $1.2K of value -- since you have volunteered to be last, it may be a bit of a wait but Hero Initiative will provide a letter documenting the donation when it occurs.
(thumbs u I'll be waiting ..
-
It is very kind of you to resolve your disagreement with Joe by allowing the artwork to be donated to the Hero Initiative. It is a wonderful gesture
Goes deep into the heart !!! at last some kind words which are slowly taking me in and curing me of my anger
It is very kind of you and much appreciated. Thanks Michael !!! Means a lot to me, really do !!!
Don't want to be mad at Joe and I'm glad he be doing his best to straighten things up
I think he should in the end ( let him finish the work for everyone first ) address personnally and publicly to the boardies ...I really think it would be the best of things to do
but I hope you understand my need of evidence in the matter of the commission toward charity, I believe a word from the HI should be enough for me though !
Well I'll remember Joe's first thoughts about my double cosmic cover commission when he said to me " that seems a lot of work but that should be fun " and stick to that faint memory while keeping true to my quest for published original comic art !
In the Lichty threads arguments is over what is art and is comic OA simply art ?
What I do know is what I collect, I'm not an art collector though a great art lover but I do collect published things and published original comic art is the best !
-
Wow that's some news !!! Thanks Michael for not keeping me in the dark !!!! much appreciated !
So I totally agree and stand on my position regarding the Hero Initiative and I very much appreciate if all can be taken for since I've no idea how I should proceed myself ...
But I find it very pityful the piece Joe will donate to the HI be not the exact commission I paid $1.2K for .. for the record a double cover cosmic commission Avengers Annual #7 blended with Dreadstar #1 ??!! I mean my hopes are my so big investment and commission idea could possibly sell for a proper amount if it is to be donated to charity auction
Of course I don't bother getting anything for myself ( but simple respect from my pears ! ) but I can't be left in the dark, I'll need all the evidence Joe worked on something at least close to my commission theme and proof it is sold for the HI with no profit at all for any third party !!!
And if I never get these I'll never be even with Joe ...or his lawyers !
-
It seems there must anti vs pro RL but IMHO we should be able to consider him as an artist who got a serious impact but who in the end should have credited his sources !!
I can understand the idea or concept of taking panels of these "meaningless comicbook" at the time ( I believe it was a great idea ! ) but why not simply accept comic book artists as artists and give them credits ??
-
so be glad you're getting something instead of nothing which has happened to me more than one.
Yeah we'll see about that ! So far all I got is plain insults ( in private )...which for the amount I've been ripped off is quite ..... absurd !!?? you tell me !
-
OK I'm laughing !!!
-
I called the number on romain's email and it's an escort service.
Is that supposed to be funny ?

To all of those customers on the Josef Rubinstein Commissions Waiting List:
I have spent the last two days in consultation with both Josef Rubinstein
and my attorneys at great length about this unfortunate situation and how to
resolve it amicably and as painlessly as possible.
To be sure ... Josef has never once denied he owes anyone anything.
He simply got himself into a bit of a sinkhole and we are trying to dig him
out of it so everyone walks away clean and happy.
Josef has agreed to let me help sort out the outstanding commissions for
him.
If you are one of the customers who is currently waiting for a commission
from Josef AND can prove that you have already paid for it, please let me
know by May 30, 2012 the following information:
1) Date of Payment – when did you actually pay Joe?
2) Proof of payment – either a canceled check, a confirmation email from
Joe, a copy of a PayPal statement, etc., Something to prove beyond a shadow of
a doubt you have paid the amount you claim.
3) Exact Amount of payment
4) What the commission is – I will need as many details here as possible –
I want to know EXACTLY what it was that you wanted Joe to do. Please
describe in great detail the size of the piece, whether it was pencils only,
pencils and inks, a painting, etc., which character(s) in what pose in which
costumes. In other words, I want to have all of the details necessary so that I
can have them for Joe so there can be no chance of any misunderstandings.
5) If there is something REASONABLE Josef can do to upgrade your request,
let me know.
If it can be REASONABLY accommodated it will be.
If your request was for Captain America single figure drawing and you ask
to be upgraded to the full Avengers lineup ... well that is not reasonable.
However, it your piece was a single figure no background and a limited
background would work for you fine.
Just be realistic in your request.
The last time I had to deal with something like this, a customer asked for
an upgrade from a one figure pencil only drawing 8 1/2" x 11" to an 11" x
17" -- 12 figure pencil, ink and tonal wash drawing with a full New York City
background ... NOT REASONABLE and the request was denied for obvious
reasons.
6) Your contact information as follows:
FULL NAME
STREET ADDRESS
CITY
STATE / PROVINCE
COUNTRY
POSTAL CODE
DAYTIME PHONE NUMBER
EVENING PHONE NUMBER
It is very important that I receive this information on or before May 30th,
2012.
After that, I will be compiling all of the information into a list.
I will then have Joe start working on the commissions, starting with the
oldest piece first working towards the newest piece.
If I do not have ALL of the requested information from you on or before May
30th, you will not be placed in the proper position on the waiting list
(that doesn't mean you won't get one if you are owed one, it just means your
piece will come at the end of the list).
We reserve the right though to bounce around should Josef have a piece just
about finished which only needs a short bit of time to complete or
something simple like a blank comic cover or a sketch card which can be
completed in
an hour or two or three.
To answer the inevitable question ... unfortunately, Josef is not
financially sound enough to offer full refunds at this point.
I am sorry.
Both he and I wish he was, but he is not.
In this economy, as most people know ... just keeping your head above water
is hard enough.
That is not to excuse for what has happened ... I just want to be up front
about everything.
We are going to do our best to get everyone an awesome piece and Josef is
going to go to town on all of the pieces to give you your monies worth and a
little bit more.
Now, once this information is in and the credibility of the request
established, as a slight apology from Josef ... you may go to his page on my
website http://www.theartistschoice.com/rubinstein.htm'>http://www.theartistschoice.com/rubinstein.htm and choose ANY page equal
to 25% of the amount paid and it will be sent to you no charge.
I request more than one option as the web page is slightly out of date. (
SORRY ). Due to the costs involved, International requests will either
require additional shipping fees OR the piece can be held until the commission
is
completed and shipped with it ... whenever that might be.
I, not Josef is doing the shipping and the method I use for International
shipping is quite expensive. SORRY.
I know some of you are troubled that Josef might take on a couple of new,
smaller commissions during this recovery time ... but the man has to eat
while he completes this backlog.
I am NOT saying he is going to and I am going to do all I can to discourage
him ... BUT, IF his bills get too much AND he needs help AND he does accept
them ... he is going to rotate new commissions with his old backlog ( with
the focus on the old overdue ones ) in order to keep his head above water.
The commissions will also be done in and around his quote "regular" comics
work as well.
It is our intention / hope that we will see some good, steady progress on a
regular basis and that Josef will be able to restore his reputation and /
or at least show everyone that he is NOT the thief he has been made out to be
and our hope is that your piece was worth the wait and then some.
If anyone has any questions, PLEASE do not hesitate to contact me.
I am sure there is something I have not covered and it will come up.
I believe in full disclosure so there will be nothing held back if correct
information is given to me by the customers.
From this point on, please do not contact Josef directly about the
outstanding commissions.
Please contact ME at SpencerBck@... with any issues, questions,
concerns or the much needed commissions information.
I will be the keeper of the list in order to avoid any potential confusion
and any potential email misunderstandings.
I look forward to hearing from those of you who are waiting on commissions
from Josef.
I HOPE that this is enough of a commitment to make those waiting happy.
If it is not, I am sorry.
Outside of Josef winning the lottery, this is the best that can be done and
I hope it is sufficient.
Lastly, THANK YOU for your respect and your incredible patience the last
few days while I tried to work out the best possible solution to a bad
situation.
I look forward to getting you something you will be proud to own.
Respectfully,
Spencer R. Beck

"Patience is a Virue!"
Ahhhhhh... The Legend.
AcA
It truly is a virue, isn't it.....love that one -- it just gets better and better with age....
Yes funny and yet very sad ...An instant classic !!!
-
Dear friend, PLEASE DON'T !!!
IT's over for me regarding this commission ............
HONESTLY it will just get me even more furious than I already am ..................
I repeat : please put me off this list so the other robbed commissioners get their due, Joe his reputation back
OR one can send the refunds to any charity one may find convenient
OR I'll put it on ebay with no reserve the day I receive it.
Sincerely appreciate the efforts but that's the last time I'll ever speak of this matter and I'll try not to think of it asap
-
En France on dit " le ridicule ne tue pas ! " but I'm not sure of the equivalent in english ?
Sticks & stones may break my bones, but words will never hurt me.
Thanks Chromium that's it exactly !!!
So please note I will put the commission on ebay with no reserve the day I get it !!( if I get it ! )
That means : no need for further attempt to help things for me
I ask to be put off the list or down the list of all the commissions pastdue from Joe so everyone can hope to get their own even faster as mine was a big one \:\)
Or refund can be sent directly to the Hero Initiative !!!
-
That does it !!!
Dear Michael, though I sincerely appreciate all your efforts to straighten things with Joe my last email exchange with Spencer just resulted in my willing to put a final point to this horror story, at least to mine ...
So please note I will put the commission on ebay with no reserve the day I get it !!( if I get it ! )
That means : no need for further attempt to help things for me
I ask to be put off the list or down the list of all the commissions pastdue from Joe so everyone can hope to get their own even faster as mine was a big one
Good luck everyone !!!!
En France on dit " le ridicule ne tue pas ! " but I'm not sure of the equivalent in english ?
off line until next time ... (thumbs u

One last thought ...
The " sorry I'm french" stands for me only for the bad communication due to the time difference between us ..not for the language issues because there's no reason to apologize for this IMHO ..
-
Hi dear fellows collectors !!!
I'm sorry if you have been waiting on my replies but I just opened the computer, read Spencer's email and answered to it right away...So I read only now your posts ...
I find a bit exagerated the fact that Spencer be still angry at me after I apologized on this very board 2 years ago !!?
Since then several Rubinstein threads appeared and I didn't even post a smiley's ...
Well my dear friends I DON'T CARE ! I'll soon be the MOST happiest collector of all
To Michael I want to say THANKS !!!!
Michael should be the one mad at me and not Spencer and it's Michael helping me !!!
Well that's how life can be ... Still I wish Joe had replied to my emails ...
AND FOR THE NEWCOMERS : I NEVER THREATENED TO HARM PHYSICALLY ANYONE !!!! And if I have to get a lawyer to serve my cause it will not be for refund issues but for a diffamation claim !!!!!
Peace

Spencer Beck just posted this on comicart-L, with permission to post on other boards:
Due to this situation and the public bashing of Josef Rubinstein ( here on
this message board and elsewhere ), I feel I have had no choice but to get a
bit hands on even though I was not involved in ANY of the commissions in
question.
I take great pride in calling Josef friend, both personally and
professionally. The man has great talent and certainly a hell of a legacy in this
industry which nobody can argue about. Josef is also an honest person who
unfortunately got himself into a thick quagmire of black tar and the more he swims
in it the deeper he is getting himself. It is NOT his intention to steal
anyone's money, nor is it his intention to not do the work. As I noted, he is
in a quagmire which I hope he can be rescued from shortly.
To be honest, it is this sort of action that gets me upset ... when my
friends get themselves into a pickle by their own device or by the actions of
others or by any combination thereof. I feel an obligation, as a friend, to
try to get more hands on involved to help they get back on track. That is
what friends do.
I am currently in consultation with Josef and my lawyer and hope to have an
announcement with more specific information shortly.
Please, I REQUEST ... keyword REQUEST everyone stop with the bashing of
Josef at least until you read my announcement which will be in the next day or
so. Once you have read it, if you wish to continue bashing him ... then by
all means do so if you feel he deserves it. Whom am I to say IF what you feel
is right or wrong? I make this request to at least give me the chance to
figure out exactly what has to be done to straighten out all of this ...
STUFF.
I am handicapped at the moment since I was not originally involved in ANY
of
> these requests. So it is going to take me a couple of days to get up to
> speed. While I cannot guarantee anything, I can certainly do my best ( as I

PS: Please feel free to post this message on any other boards you think it
pertinent or have already made "bashing" posts on.
I'm personnally very pleased to read that !!!
I want to state I wasn't bashing Joe or Spencer but simply told my story again ...
If I sounded otherwise I apologize again !
I had thought all day long of lots things to say about the thread but THIS awesome news I hope will settle things right !!!
And I promise to give all the credits to the supertalented skills of Master Rubinstein if I ever see my double cover cosmic commission and of course to Spencer Beck !!!
I want to salute also all the professionals who spoke on the yahoo group and the friends
-
I'll add a few facts ..
Actually everything described by Rob is what I experienced !! The same excuses for delays, the same way of replying only to threat, the same way he asked for the funds to be able to "begin" the work and so on ...and of course he was the one who asked first since I never did any commission but was trying to get infos on Jim Starlin to get me a Starlin commission he offered me his skills !!!
I'd say there is a pattern of fraudulent activity ...
That's for all of you reading and still wondering what to think between the great commission pieces posted regularly on CAF and what we have to live with ...
BTW he did me the '" please remind me what was this commission about ?" as well !
And I'll add for my own that I didn't have any luck through Spencer Beck who prefered to judge my tone ( unfortunatly I always input my humor in my writings ..well I'm french !!! ) rather than the acts and the facts !
After a lot of arguing on this board I ended up with a weird offer to send me Starlin OA but it is not about the money is it ? I feel robbed and worse I feel insulted by someone I truely had respect for ....The Starlin art I want I buy and I don't expect it as a second hand opportunity I have too much respect for it !
Artists are what they are, can act the weirdest way or work the slowest but still they should be able to respect their commissioner if not their fans !!!
Joe you're more than welcome to write to me !!!
Anytime !!!
-
Well Regarding my Rubinstein killer commission purchased ( that is ... payed upfront ) I don't even remeber when ( maybe 5 years now ...maybe 6 ?)
I NEVER got it ....worse I don't get Joe's reply anymore and I do use the same direct email he lousily provided through J Mangrum .....
He constantly offers his commission through CAF but don't do what he owes ...
I thought I would leave it, forget it as my collection has gone beyond my wildest dreams so the cover recreations I asked for back then don't excite me anymore ...also since then I had the infinite pleasure to talk to Jim Starlin himself so the fanboy I am is also a lot less impressed as he was to speak to Mr Joe Rubinstein !!!
I felt I should allow him one last chance after speaking to my good friend YM who convinced me artists aren't the same as us non artist simple mortals and sent him an email no less than a week ago and guess what ?? NO reply !!!
Now to see this new and latest thread I had to speak again on this particular matter ...I know lot of things are said on the yahoo comicart group ...just joined in to learn a bit more !!!
So my advice is if you do commission Joe don't pay upfront ...but more important if you do you must know that doing it will prevent many good fellow collectors to get their problem fixed so in the end you will share some of the moral responsability to this huge artist crisis
-
better get away from the board after some drinlking ...........
Best wishes to everyone out there !!!!!
-
Almost bought this one ..... It IS A great cover !!!!!!! Congra
-
Normally everybody can use paypal and I'd recommend that for overseas transaction unless it is a huge amount of money therefore it's better to use bank transfert / wires but that can be slow ..that solves the currency issue.
If you're dealing with a collector ( especially younger one ..) remember french don't always speak good english so be cool is the best advice, the dealers not so many in OA you shouldn't have any problems with, I guess !
Of course make sure you deal the piece in $ or euros ( unless we do transactions between europeans we generally speak in $ ourselves in regards to the comics and comicart )
I'm speaking for the US comic art which I know better but that shouldn't be any different for the European comic art either ..?
I recommand to avoid regular mail and even the tracked ones as one can't trust the french mail !!!! it is far more expensive but I advise private carriers !
two links to find OA in Paris : http://www.editions-deesse.com/comics/comics.html ( the vintage old school first and best provider in France )
http://www.galerie9art.com/ ( more recent but quite decent )
Also never hesitate to ask your french friend here if you have any questions, PM or through CAF I'd be very happy to answer !!!
Finally I'm on something myself but it's too soon to tell .....
Last tip : if you come to France, know that you can go to UK by train !!! BTW : http://www.londonsupercomicconvention.com/ (thumbs u
-
Aye Aye Sir
Art is bigger than comic size so you need stronger box or package, keep in mind if the art is damaged you can't replace it !!
Also I like to see the art totally sealed in the pack as I ship oversea I don't want the fishes to start their OA collection with my precioussss..
In the same idea I feel it is quite dangerous to insure and declare high values, better pay a big fine than getting robbed and refunded ( a refund will never heal the loss of a one of kind )
here's a link : http://www.comicartfans.com/GalleryRoom.asp?GSub=99566 for what it's worth ..
And in regards to storing..PROTECT YOUR ART by all means !!!! but know that it will never be enough unless you be running a true museum ..
my 2K
-
Guess you're right (thumbs u
Love the " twisted spoon who barbecues puppies " I'd never been able to say it like that !!!
Hopefully plenty of the people in the hobby are nice persons and sharing the art is a wonderful thing for both side ! I remember back in the days when seing a couple of original comic art pages was so rare ( I'm french ... ) now I can browse all night and purchase all day ( wish I did ), discuss trade and dream about my favorite pieces from my fellow CAF members ...
