This is difficult to answer, mainly because the Okajima Pedigree touches on an area of sensitivity regarding citizens wrongly persecuted and imprisoned because of their ethnicity. While I don't have a problem with the portrayal of Japanese soldiers as war propaganda on comics ...which would be very offensive taken out of the historical context... and I have quite a few examples in my collection, the idea of Japanese-American families having their possessions taken and being placed in guarded camps bothers me. So, personally, my tendency would be avoidance of the Okajima pedigree, writing notwithstanding. That isn't to criticize the pedigree itself or anyone else's taste collecting them as they're beautiful books, lovingly stored and maintained; definitely deserving of their stature in the collecting community. It's just a personal thing; they're splendid books, but honestly, I'd always prefer the Denver pedigree.

The comic (Superman #27) is from 1944, probably contemporaneous to whatever film was being shot; it was before series TV so it's from a movie or more likely, a serial. My suspicion is that Columbia produced it since they obtained rights for Batman and later Superman from DC, the first Batman serial was shot and released in '43. My best guess would be that scene was filmed after that, from another serial, short or feature film.

An excellent point that's also an enigma wrapped within an enigma. While auctions are never a barometer of true value, they're almost always a barometer of market value. Convention wall sales and LCS sales are rarely reported to analysts (GPS, GoCollect, etc.) because they're infrequently acknowledged publicly. In fact, some sales are still perceived as proprietary information. Raw sales also slip through the cracks along with some non-CGC third party graded sales even though that's improving. As collectors, we all live on a Ouija board. Being passionate about collecting is also serendipitous to checking the pulse of the market, taking into account the limitations of making assessments based on periodic auction sales, pedigree values, census data and sales data of comparable grades/grade bumps over the years. Steven, your collection is beautiful to behold and taste in high quality books second to none. You have a superb collection and a healthy outlook on the hobby, IMO. If anything, my collecting purchases have become more carefully orchestrated, ...sorta like a chamber orchestra as opposed to symphonic.

Also, this is from an episode of the TV series Naked City. Almost hopped out of my chair while watching this episode on DVD some years ago. Another comic related factoid, the bad guy being pursued in this episode (Burgess Meredith) would eventually play the Penguin in the Batman TV series around five years later.
