Historic acquisition, my last of 2023
Cat-Man_America replied to SOTIcollector's topic in Golden Age Comic Books
If I could locate my copy of the monthly OAFzine circa late 1969 early '70 ...best recollection... there's a three page satirical comic send-up of Fredric Wertham titled "Fredric Worthnone, MD." The art is terrible, partially because it was all done via ditto master; I did my best to create Bill Elder style comments in panels which in retrospect may be its only saving grace. Note: For those unfamiliar with ditto-masters, they're basically purplish carbons under a top sheet that can be used a limited number of times to produce a small run of fanzines. The membership of OAF was around 60 or 70 at the time so copies got very faint toward the end of the run. In doing art one had to bear down to the point of punching through the paper most of the time. Bart Bush and David Smith were the OAFzine editors. Our membership increased to the point where we had to go offset shortly after this with a dues hike to keep the zine going. Also, ...and this is the kicker... Fredric Wertham actually joined OAF around this time as he was researching fanzines for another book. Haven't a clue whether he ever saw my comic strip, but gratefully no legal action was taken! -

the YOU TUBE comic book videos thread
Cat-Man_America replied to sagii's topic in Golden Age Comic Books
Another in the series of GA Comic Book Tropes; these are flat-out hilarious! I've already linked one of his earlier YouTube videos in the unpopular heroes thread, but since The Black Condor was masterfully drawn by Lou Fine ...even if the characters origin is for the birds... this seems the more apt thread for posting. -

Most unpopular Golden Age superhero
Cat-Man_America replied to ChillMan's topic in Golden Age Comic Books
Green Lama wasn't lame or unpopular, neither was Cat-Man & Kitten; both had success extending to their own titles. Red Bee was kewl too & featured on several HIT Comic covers with excellent art. Nevertheless, there's a lot of eyebrow raising superheroes in the GA, usually secondary characters with weak stories and/or art that ...in some cases... are laughable. In fact spome of them get highlighted. Here's an example of a pathetic GA character reviewed by the Comic Tropes guy in a YouTube video that cracked me up! #711 appeared in early Police Comics (Quality Comics Group)... -
The ALL Schomburg all-the-time thread...
Cat-Man_America replied to Cat-Man_America's topic in Golden Age Comic Books
Agreed! This is a fascinating glimpse of Alex Schomburg from his family's perspective; he was clearly a very nice person as well as a great artist. Highly enjoyable, with a touch of holiday cheer too! -
I can't honestly say for certain although he was quite proud to have it and deservedly so. Located another great photo I took of Roger some years back with a nice Crandall original cover from his collection...

the YOU TUBE comic book videos thread

Came across this fascinating YouTube video on the Black Terror; it's around 15 minutes long, but surprisingly informative (definitely worth watching, IMO)...
