  1. OK, I 'll throw my $0.02 in. I think buy what you like. Once you figure out what that is! I've found even in the 1 1/2 years I have been buying stuff that my tastes have changed (I can't say matured, we're talking about comic book art!) I think that I would be a lot more stressed if I had to sell 3 pages for 1k as opposed to 8-10 $100-$300 pages. there will always be more people willing to spend $100 than people willing to spend $10k. Now that I am starting to feel comfortable with what's going to be in my "wheelhouse" am I starting to lay out bigger $$ for pages.
  2. I exchanged a handful of emails with him, and once I asked him if his stuff was for sale, it was radio silence... I think that's a pretty clear indicator.
  3. hm hm I'll cut it out and put it on eBay! Make sure to put it on Ebay under original art, and say you purchased it directly from the artist at the Greenwich Village street fair in the 70's.....
  4. Well perhaps I am being too dramatic for you but "slower sales cycle" is "hard to sell and hard to buy" in my book Funny, I feel bad that I was not part of the hobby back then. I find half the fun of this is the hunt for new treasures. And the feeling you get when you finally score one. Back in the day it was like Indiana Jones, now it's more like the Matrix.... (that's the most stretched movie analogy I've ever used!)
  5. That page has nothing to do with the creation of a comic book. That seller makes those overlays himself via xerox. Even real production art is usually a color proof or some derivation of that....
  6. My response was to the line "I wish there was a forum where we could have intelligent debates about the art itself". To participate in the "exclusive conversation" as you put it, one would need to be able to have a discussion without being offended, know what it is they actually appreciate about the art itself without emotional attachment and be able to articulate it. In my experience on public forums these discussions don't last long before it becoming about values, nostalgia or some troll crashes it. If you've had a different experience online then I'm glad for you. I'd love to be proven wrong. Sounds like a great idea for a podcast......
  7. For cheap / nice framing... http://www.framesbymail.com/
  8. Awesome! You really must love this arc, you didn't even mention it's by Art Adams. Yeah, I guess I left out that small detail......
  9. I was able to pick up the OA for the new Fantastic Four (Wolverine, Ghost Rider, Spider-Man, The Hulk as Mr Fixit) from the topps 1991 card set. This little arc is so memorable to me, and this is my 1st piece from it, even if it's not from the comic directly, I love it. If anyone out there has any other pages they'd be willing to part with LMK for sure =) You can see it here: http://cafurl.com?i=18255 Thanks, Pete
  10. I have heard good things about: http://www.framesbymail.com/ I plan on using them for some of the new stuff I should be getting soon. And they're easy to swap things in and out of.
  11. Cool idea with the paint! It enhances the art for sure. Great job.
  12. This week I got 6 new pages from the big event of 1998! DC 1,000,000. I always liked this series a lot, it's celebrates what is great about comics. So many crossovers are about destroying "things" or people dieing. This was just a big adventure with big ideas. A lot of people beat up on Val Semekis art, but I thought he did a great job on this series. As always comments are welcome! http://www.comicartfans.com/GalleryRoom.asp?GSub=128403 Thanks, Pete
  13. You're right. Sorry, I forgot they tier their stuff. But BIN's and Stores in general (which I forgot to say I was thinking of) are not capped are they? so in my senario (through the handy dandy fee calculator that ebay has) for 3k with $12 shipping with a store, and no discounts Type of fee Cost Insertion fee $0.20 Final value fee (on sale price) $102.50 Final value fee (on shipping cost) $0.24 Discount** on final value fee (on sale price) $-0.00 Total estimated fees $102.94 http://pages.ebay.com/sellerinformation/news/Feecalculator.html# Thanks, at least now I know I'm the crazy one =)
  14. DJ, I am new too, and have had similar thoughts. For some reason, I feel like in this hobby people are more worried about what it sells for some times, than the $$ they get in their pocket. If something is listed at 3k on ebay, after fees, even if you're a power seller you're going to be charged 11% if you're not a power seller(~9% if they are), plus another 3% of the total for paypal. which winds up being about $420, but in my experience, if you offered $2600 from the website they'll think you're crazy. And they get pinged on shipping charges on ebay too now (which is the biggest scam ever) /rant off
  15. I agree, CAF and Ebay are just the beginning. Google, some research and networking will get you much farther. I struggle to find what I'm looking for but, I'm also pretty new to all this too (only been buying art since April) Also, most artists are on Facebook.
  16. That will never get old Never, ever, ever... Just make sure you always Con-Cider all your options
