  1. How's everyone doing? Looks like you've just seen a ghost!

Hey Brother. Where have you been hiding?

I've just been busy. Couldn't find my remaining issues and got tired of looking. Also got tired of endlessly upgrading my books when CGC's standard started to fall.

No idea how it is these days or anything. I didn't even know my Weird War Tales set won Bronze this year until I received the plaque a few weeks ago. :)

I do miss it here, maybe once I finish spending $20k on my house on various projects I'll be back to wrap it all up!

I hope everyone here is doing great. I see a few new "faces" and that always makes me smile.

Speaking of horror, I'm playing the new game "The Evil Within" and loving every minute of it.

    Good to hear from you.

I just picked up "Evil Within" as well and haven't had the chance as of yet to play.

I've been working on Unexpecteds and that's about it.

  2. Corrected label of Best of DC #34 (Newsstand Edition)!!!

    A Little bit of history...

    Source:

    http://www.comics.org/issue/1037226/

Mislabeled #497 on cover. From Bob Rozakis, DC production manager at the time: "The price box was picked up from the ADVENTURE COMICS DIGEST. As I recall, we told the printer to strip in the price from ADVENTURE and they took the entire box." (via e-mail, January 1, 2011.)

I already have the Best of DC #34 Direct Edition with the mislabeled. And I never new there was a corrected version of this book. 5-6 months ago I bought a huge lot of DC digests on ebay, and while sorting them through I saw the cover (Best of DC #34) and looking closely I notice it had the correct labeled on it. I emailed Dough Sulipa about the corrected labeled on Best of DC #34 and he never noticed it either and he said he was going to check. His reply was...

    Doug:

"#34(Corrected editions with #34 on cover exist on American Newsstand copies only) = ONE in stock

#34(States #497 on cover; Canadian Newsstand copies) = ONE in stock

#34(States #497 on cover; DIRECT Edition copies) = 10 copies in stock"

    I then asked him...

    vane:

"Is the " BEST OF DC Comics Digest #34(Corrected editions with #34 on cover" has a lower print run?"

    His reply...

    Doug:

"Most copies on the Market are DIRECT editions.

    Most DIRECT editions were saved by Collectors;

USA Newsstand editions were sold to the general public & have a much smaller Survival Rate

Because the Corrected edtion only exists in the USA Newsstand edition, it is approx 5-10 Times Scarcer;"

I did asked him if he can make a note on the OSPG and he said he will try.

So it turns out the Newsstand Edition is much scarcer than the Direct Edition.

I called CGC and asked them to make a notation on the CGC labeled and on the census.

I'm happy I own both copies in 9.8's.

  3.

Just from the pic. Top staple/cover is separating. Check your corners of the book carefully and the back cover. Scrutinize heavy when you look at your books.

thanks for the eyes grider, which book were you referring to? The Dracula? :wishluck:

Sinister House. The top cover where the staple is located is separating. Also check your staples for rust as well.

Great book. Within my horror genre. (thumbs u

  4. two coming my way from the bay... will post better scans once they are in my hot little hands (I have a medical condition!)

Sinister House of Secret Love #1 CGC 7.5

Really cant tell what the problem is with this book. Scans of the bottom portion didnt show any creasing or big 7.5 worthy problems. Only thing I see is a possible slight hint of back cover staining but the scan doesnt make it look very visible, we'll see what it looks like in hand. Either way considering how nicely centered it was, I wanted it (I'll take lower grade well centered copies at a discount any day!)

    Dracula Lives #3 CGC 8.0

Adams cover, and a Lady in White. I know this is magazine sized, but it went with the theme of Bronze horror, so here it is!

  5. So "The Witching Hour" showcase is worth getting?

Just bought some Showcase books House of Mystery 1 & 2, House of Secrets 1 & 2, Secrets Of Sinister House and Ghost. They didn't have The Witching Hour so I will have to find that one later. Found out that most of these are OP and getting hard to find just as Sterlingcomics mentioned. Can't wait for them to arrive so I can start reading.
I waited a while to get the Witching Hour copy and definitely sweated. Word to the wise--grab 'em fresh!

BTW, Weird War Tales was just released on 1/8. Get it cheap on Amazon!

Absolutely. The comedy within is between the 3 witches (who host the stories) and Igor. Good stuff.

Plus a lot of pretty pictures by Nick Cardy. (thumbs u

You are correct sir. (thumbs u

  8. Have to admit I never read any of these books. The only Horror book I read is TOD but all these other I have never owned. Can someone give me a quick horror lesson. What is the idea behind each comic (HOM, HOS etc...)? Which are best? I remember reading one story posted somehwere here about an alien kid and at the end it turns out that the actually "Alien" was a human kid something along those lines. I really enjoyed the story and art work.

    So where should I start?

Each comic has two or three stories of about 4-5 pages each...typical DC plots are :

    1. Killer haunted by ghost of killed person who enacts revenge (typical in Ghosts)

    2. Plot twists / surprise endings (typical in Unexpected)

    3. Sell your soul to the devil plotlines

The actual settings are varied...and many more types but the above are a trend in my DCs.

HOM had the most variety...I'd definitely start there. If you don't enjoy that title then horror anthology just isn't for you.

If you want try it out... I recommend Showcase Presents Ghosts, HOM, HOS, or Witching Hour. They run about $16.99 to $19.99. They are black and white and not color with no ads.

Oh yeah, I forgot. Some of those are getting a little tough to find. I've downloaded some of the torrents since I have the physical book.

Sergio Aragones in HOM and HOS worth the price alone. Love that guy.
