CAPTAIN MARVEL starring Brie Larson (3/8/19)
fantastic_four replied to Bosco685's topic in The Movie Forum
Odd to point out given that Ghost World is the very first place I noticed her rockin' figure, although Thora Birch has even more of one so it seemed less extreme next to her. And I agree with critics at the time, I've always hated her voice. -

I mostly agree, except I don't get the Scarlett comparison given that she has even less charm than Brie, and at best she's average or barely passable as an actress or action star. If she didn't have the classic hourglass body shape none of us would have ever even heard Scarlett's name. -
X-MEN: DARK PHOENIX directed by Simon Kinberg (11/2/18)

I have a similar nostalgic tie to Gladiator, but from a different source. One of the first issues of Fantastic Four I ever bought and read is the one below. I enjoyed the story and Gladiator in it, but even at the time I thought to myself how close a Superman clone he was--right down to him literally being described as a "super-man" on the cover.- 1,322 replies

X-MEN: DARK PHOENIX directed by Simon Kinberg (11/2/18)

I've never been able to take the Imperial Guard seriously as characters knowing their origin as an explicit homage to the Legion of Super-Heroes. Gladiator has always been especially problematic for me as an exact duplicate of Superman with a real name of Kallark that's an portmanteau of Superman's two first names of Kal and Clark. I always forget which members of the Guard map to which original Legion members, but Clarement had a one-to-one mapping for all of them.- 1,322 replies

I didn't really understand how the injury would have permanently injured the eye. It was a scratch that went across his lids...if it had penetrated the lids and affected the eye, wouldn't the lid be hanging in flaps and require surgical repair? It was a nasty scratch, but it didn't look deep enough to permanently disable the eye without completely trashing the lid. -

Logan is by far the best of the Fox efforts. First Class is second. None of the others come close to those two, although Days of Future Past is a fine film. The first two X-Men films are good but not great.- 1,322 replies

Absolutely. Any time he shows up in national press at almost any level he comments on it. Past examples include his getting kicked off the Southwest flight for not buying two seats because the flight attendant thought he was too fat, he and Adam Carolla fighting over Smith somehow getting some joint project they were on cancelled, and I'm sure I'm forgetting half a dozen other things. He comments on everything even if it's personally embarrassing to him...he's not easily embarrassed and is a completely open book. It's one of the qualities I share with him that have led me to listen to most of his podcasts over the years, particularly Smodcast.

If true, it's inane that Smith didn't even try to ask Affleck to appear. Either way I fully expect that Smith will comment on it.

CAPTAIN MARVEL starring Brie Larson (3/8/19)

With all that being said, I think Cap and Iron Man are the best casted heroes of Marvel movies so far. -
Everyone's raving about the Mafex Spider-Man calling it the most articulated, sweet-looking 6" Spider-Man figure ever that yields tons of insane McFarlane-type poses with Spidey in weird body positions. The only minuses I've heard are that it's a bit fragile and some people are breaking the joints when working it. Not as fragile as Revoltech joints but far moreso than Legends from what I've heard. It's sold out everywhere. I would've snagged it, but I'm not in the market for figures my toddlers would break for now. Maybe when they're older. I also don't really love figures whose joints are fragile to work, I find them slightly frustrating, and it makes me less likely to want to articulate them.

SPIDER-MAN 2 from Marvel & Sony (7/5/19)
fantastic_four replied to Bosco685's topic in The Movie Forum
I've seen that Avengers 48 cover before, but I have never encountered Black Knight in any comics I've ever read. A movie? Why? What's his most significant role in the comics? Just from covers I assumed he was a lame insertion of a medieval-themed character into the Marvel world, but I know nothing about him so maybe he's cooler than I've given him credit for.- 704 replies

I saw the movie, but I don't recall more info being available to him about the bomb other than what you can see in the video. I don't fully get how he knew, either, other than he was running super-fast to get to the mansion and somehow realized the bomb was going off when he got there. Maybe he heard it?

I've never understood the hate for Iron Man 3 either. Much more fun than the second one, which itself wasn't horrible.

I've got those two FF figures, but it doesn't come with that stretchy neck...I WANT IT!

Girls can't beat boys...even my three year olds can tell you that. I say that assuming that shotput gold medalist Valerie Adams at 6' 4" and 265 pounds (and sister of NBA Thunder center Stephen Adams) won't read this and decide to show me how wrong I am. -

Actually I'd say that Guardians of the Galaxy implicitly suggests that the power stone emanates passive power. They say that only extraordinarily strong individuals can possess it, they show it ripping apart the Collector's servant when she grabs it, and they show it dramatically empowering Ronan when he grabs it and sticks it into his hammer. That all implies it's always giving off an aura of power. In Infinity War, we never see the latent energy of the stones like that, just a far more subtle glow when he plugs them into the gauntlet and again when he explicitly activates them. Until I hear different I'm guessing they didn't think about this, but they clearly wanted to establish Thanos as the biggest of the bads so they wanted to depict him beating Hulk with no help. Which is consistent with the comics, usually characters and abilities get refined and further defined when new authors start writing them (McFeely and Markus on Infinity War), or some aspects of a character get overlooked or forgotten about by subsequent authors (McFeely and Markus may have overlooked Gunn and Perlman's intent and that of the comics). Not that big a deal on a fairly subtle point.
