  1. Thanks for the background info. So CConnect is just slow in passing on their data then. It is strange since their numbers used to be updated in GPA within a few days after an auction ended, just surprised it has taken this long for the spring auction.

Yes, CLink holding out is quite a disservice to buyers and sellers, on top of them not having a tracking tool on their auctions.:pullhair:

I guess it is up to each diligent and astute collector themselves to keep tabs on the final prices from their site.

  2. Hi All,

Just a quick question, I've been out of the game for a couple of years in terms of buying and selling so may have missed something....

Are Comic Connect auction figures no longer included in GPA sales? I was following a couple of books in the spring auction and these do not show up on GPA at all like they used to.

I know Connect numbers were included up to years 2016 or 2017 and have stopped now? I may be wrong about that too then.

It would be unfortunate if they are not part of GPA anymore, they have strong sale numbers at times that reflect current market trends. Having Heritage as the only auction house contribute to GPA can really understate some figures since their comic demographic is one of the weaker ones in the industry.

Thanks in advance for any insight.

  3. Current bid for the CLink 9.6 white pages is at $5,914 !! Wow, almost a 20% increase from the last 9.6 sale on CConnect which was only a few weeks ago. From what I recall the eye appeal is comparable between the two. Won't be surprised if it cracks the $6K barrier, and we maybe even see a new high for the grade on this book ($6,500 +).

No stopping this book right now ... and no movie or speculators required even.

Book ended at $6777. Wow. I wonder how much of that price is attributable to the small doodle that they included with the book. hm

    -J.

I doubt the doodle had much affect on the price. The book itself was really sharp, rich colors and a perfect wrap. I think picky collectors are starting to realize the wrap on this book is difficult in high grade, most people keep the nice ones and when they do come out for auction a premium is paid. I believe this is why there is such a variance in the realized prices at times.

  5. Makes me wonder about a total copies estimate. Anybody know the Gerber rating on Archie #1?

    7

I forget what a Gerber 7 means. Is that 100-200 estimated copies? or even less?

There are 43 listed on the census and there are 4 raw issues listed in this forum so we know of 47 copies right now.

    That's rarified air.

Isn't Action comics 1 a Gerber 7 also. 60 of those on the census

Aren't GPA census numbers "contaminated" and unreliable due to duplication ?

ie. if a cgc.4.5 gets pressed and submitted to become cgc 5.5, don't both the 4.5 and 5.5 stay on the census (unless the label is submitted also to get the original 4.5 dropped) ?

Therefore, if this is the case it looks like two books are out there but in reality it's only one ? That means the "43" listed on the census can be less - and much less if there's been lots of resubmissions.... just a thought.

  6. Either way it is the 1st app. of a very popular character with not that many copies out there compared to their later counterparts from the early 60's.

The character is awesome with tons of potential that needs a better approach than the tanked movie and cheap animated series.

It is a book that will certainly rise again in value once the Justice League franchise gets on its way. At that point however, higher grade copies will be unavailable again. Since WB has decided to try to do this right, it is all a matter of time. If you are looking for a long time investment, now is probably the time to buy this book cheap in higher grades. If you're looking for a fast flip, this is probably a bad choice to make at this time.

Agreed - good time to buy if you're a collector and have been looking for awhile or waiting for the market to cool down. This is a blue-chip DC key which will hold its value over the long run.

Bad time to buy for short-term speculators.

  7. No slowing down on this book.

Won't be surprised if 6.5s will fetch $7,500.00 and 7.0s go over $10K before the end of the year.

Don't see too many copies 7.0 or better coming out (yet).

B & B #28 will eventually take over SC#22 as the number two SA DC key (after SC#4) - regardless of the movie hype, the JLA legacy and its pop culture impact is too hard to ignore.

  8. Ugh, this business trip is killing me! Again, I'll post some clean scans of the #1's when I get back, but in the interim I stumbled across this pic on my laptop that I took a while back of my 1-20 run.

    :o

Yikes ! I didn't know it was possible to hoard like this on this title !! (worship)

  9. Condolences on the Cinderella Love. That is a marvelous cover.

I was surprised by the GCE and did not anticipate that much demand for a 4.0.

That was surprising, given the piece missing from the cover, but I think that is a genuinely scarce book.

Definitely a scarce book, and one that hardly comes up for auction (much like CL 25).... but if you were to do search on Heritage, there was a lower grade copy (raw) with WATER DAMAGE that sold for about $1,700.00 many years ago. I think the final price on this is aligned with how tough this book is, may even seem like a bargain in the long-term. A slabbed copy with a small piece out of the cover has greater appeal compared to a raw copy with major water damage IMHO.

  10.

RE: Rangers Comics#26 Is this considered a Classic Cover ?

It is noted on my CGC label as Classic Cover but there is one in a current auction that is missing this notation. Was it just missed or did the Classic Cover designation for this book only realized recently ?

That would really suck if we were all

    Conceptually-speaking,

    all I can imagine

    is the Game Theory scene

    from A Beautiful Mind

with everyone going for the blonde

What did this book end up going for ?

  12. Let me qualify this- "hotttest SA DC key."

I would somewhat agree, but the market for this book is harder to quantify than other keys because there are just so few copies being offered out there .... it may be somewhat of a chicken and the egg... every time there is one for sale, it gets snatched up quickly and at a premium ... driving the demand up even more since collectors don't want to give up any copies - especially at cgc 5.0 or above which hardly come to market; then the collectors who still need one can't find another one for sale!!

The same can't be said for Showcase#4,22, B&B#28, Flash#105, JLA#1, etc. since there are lots of sales and in various conditions.

I guess my point IMHO is, this might not be the "hottest" SA DC key since DC war is a niche market and not mainstream, but I would say it is the "toughest" SA DC key ... and the Clink sale is very reflective of the market and how difficult the book is. If anything, the price might look like a bargain in the next few years considering HA had a cgc 8.0 go for almost $17K last year. With the passing of Kubert, there might be a greater appreciation of the book going foward also since his legacy has always been tied to Rock.

I made a 22k offer on that 8.0 and the seller declined. :(

Not surprised - true collectors buy this book to hold, it's not a "flip" book. I bid on that 8.0 myself and couldn't keep up once it got past $12K ! Who knows how far the winner would have went with his / her max bid .....

  13. Based on the 7.0 sale, can anyboby guess what a nice 6.0 #83 would go for?

tough to say - if you put it in an auction and you get a couple of high roller bidders trying to snipe, I wouldn't be surprised if you hit $7K these days (in a perfect storm). Again, still no telling what the market holds for this book, especially for something above 5.0-5.5. The book has been overlooked for a long time.

Why ? Do you have one to sell ? PM me ! :)

  15. I think that's it besides the cover to Tec 385 and 422 (my person favorite). He hasn't done any other Batgirl as far as I know. A shame really as he does a really hot Babs.

I agree - just surprised he hasn't done more work with such a popular character from the era.

What about Tec#369 which has the Batgirl / Robin team-up, did Adams do the art on the story ? I know he's credited with some of the cover art.

  16. Anyone what the first Neil Adams Batgirl is - interior art and not just a cover (if indeed he did one) ?

Would have to be bronze age I assume since her first appearance was late SA.

    Thanks.

    bmi-050.jpg

PP14 from WF #176. It's a really stupid story even by SA standards and Batgirl is only in about 2-3 pages throughout the book.

Thanks - what other Batgirl work has Adams done ? Any other early appearances in Tec or BM ?
