  1. Book arrived today. Bulletproof packaging. Quick shipping. Book looks great. Smiles all around! Thanks so much! Carl
  2. Wow! Beautiful 3.0... I wonder what happened to it ??
  3. I'm in total agreement: this book's a beauty. And I think Whiz 2 (1) is on the upswing these days: Seeing the 1.0 at HA sell for almost $10K when I thought it'd go closer to $5K ... and the strong price on Ebay for the 1.0-1.8 (unslabbed) copy at about $12.5K (and here I was thinking $7K!) .... So it seems if I say this book should sell for about $175K, then almost certainly it has real potential to sell for about $350K! ... and even through I doubt it, I've been wrong every time... (And thank you Rick for helping me understand the $176K price for the 6.0 that I never quite understood.)
  4. Price is a lil high....please give me this persons number, ill buy it so no one else gets it I do see the book you're looking at. It's a rather beat up copy, but if you're comparing to other recent sale prices, I think that's about fair. (thumbs u
  5. No Plastic Man or Phantom Lady?
  6. Hmmmm... given the hijacking and the possible expansive nature of responses, how about we go with top SuperHero characters... (I just hate excluding Archie from the list!) ...
  7. Reviving a very important thread... (thumbs u ... G.A.Tor, if we exclude characters created by DC and Marvel/Timely, who are the greatest comic book characters of the Golden Age ... ... feel free to list as few or many as you'd like (top 5, top 10, top 12) ... (Please note: you're most welcome to include characters later purchased by DC or Marvel, e.g. Plastic Man, Captain Marvel, etc)...
  8. GATor, In your estimation of it, how many of us exist? Perhaps a clarification is in order: how many GA collectors do you think there are out there today? Of course, I'm not expecting an exact number - 7,984... but just an order of magnitude - 1000, 10000, 100000,...
  9. Speaking of early WW's again, if I could ask a "basic" question: I know All-Star 8 is the first WW appearance, but it couldn't have beaten Sensation 1 by much, as Sensation 1 has an ad for All Star 8 - any idea by how many weeks AS 8 beat Sensation 1 to market? And then, WW 1 came very soon after - anyone know what that time gap was between Sensation 1 and WW 1 ? (There must have been an easy one-sentence way to ask this, so sorry if this sounds a little ramble-y)...
  10. That one sold for a premium due to pressing/grade increase potential (thumbs u I've noticed that with a handful of books - going notably above GPA because of potential for a grade bump with pressing. Can an experienced eye such as yours actually tell from the scans alone, or do you call CGC for notes, or ... combo of visual and notes. If a book looks nicer than assigned grade (we've all seen those) it prompts folks to call for notes and from there one can make an educated guess. Thanks (thumbs u

  12. Is it for sale, or is this a body-parts-only sort-of-a-thing?
  13. Rick, I'm starting to wonder about the investment potential of WW. I'm starting to slowly move toward balancing my portfolio with an investment in comics, with an eye on GA Pre-Robin Tecs and early Actions. I don't suspect that will change, and... And I wondered about WonderWoman... All-Star 8 and Sensation 1 to be exact. (Not the 8.5 at $175K!!!) Thumbs up as books with room to grow? Sure seems that way to me...
  14. Have you seen that the All-Star 8 8.5 (2nd highest graded) just surfaced on Clink (for $175K )?
  15. Hi Rick, A Batman 1 (1.0) and Tec 37 (1.0) just showed up on Clink. Looks like from the same seller Given my belief that you know most everything and most everyone, any idea if the seller's a bordie, and, if so, who it might be? Also, is it in bad taste to ask such a question? (I mean, you could argue that if they'd wanted to sell on the boards they'd have listed on the boards first.) Thanks, Carl
  16. GAtor (you see, I discovered this thread and now can't help myself!), Why is the restored market so much weaker than the unrestored - let me elaborate - take, say, Tec 27 - the 9.2 ® on HA will sell for, say, $120K - that's the same price as a 2.0 - but the 9.2 probably started out as a, let's say, 6.0 - no way it started as a 2.0 - so why not at least get 5.0 universal dollars for it? Market bias against restored? Thanks, Carl P.S. Oh, and does that mean one day the restored market for GA books (like Tec 27) has more room to grow than the universal market?
  17. And on a less, er, tasteless note, GAtor, how many more great undiscovered collections (e.g. Billy Wright-ish) are there out there, waiting to be unearthed? 10? 100? 1000?
  18. How long does it take them to stop crying in there? My guess would be till they run out of oxygen Fortunately they are pretty good kids. Although family meetings are more like a congressional committee meeting than a fireside chat. Six more months and I will be done with diapers. I've been changing diapers since 1998 and I think I've seen everything that can happen or be done with a poppy diaper. This thread is nothing without pics. In an attempt to be helpful, I googled poopy diapers and clicked on the image link - now wishing I hadn't! But I did find this, titled "poopy diaper icecream" In true ask GAtor fashion, GAtor, is this a real flavor, and if so, have you tried it!?
  19. Thanks for the kind tutorial... that was helpful... And, hey, is that the 1.0 Action 7 from HA that sold about a year ago I see?
  20. What's going on around here? Clink just posted a Tec 33 0.5 - for $5K! And it's already at $4.45K in offers... Really? The 2.0 just sold for $7.6K at Clink's auction - so what's going on here? Someone overreaching...

  22. What? There's an ask GAtor thread? How can I have missed 186 pages of solicited collective wisdom? Well, by all means... at long last, my question answered... My 3 year old is prone to temper tantrums when she doesn't get EXACTLY what she wants (so am I, but that's another topic). Wanting to prove to my wife that all that time and money spent on comic books is not a waste... ... here's where I need your help: What's the best comic book to read a 3 year old to soothe her with her temper tantrum? I cracked m AF 15 9.0 from its case to try that one, but she seemed more burdened by the idea that with great power comes great responsibility, and ripped it to shreds!! Ah, well, couldn't have been worth that much anyway, right? Thanks in advance for answering once and for all this age old question that I'm sure most collector parents have been wondering! Carl P.S. I realize that you often need a photo to be able to make a proper assessment, so I've included a photo of her so you can make a definitive conclusion. P.P.S My daughter has just asked that you answer her question as well, and I apologize in advance for it's graphic nature: "Where does a poopy diaper go when it's sleeping?" Very zen, no?
  23. My guess is the Tec 29 will break 10K. just ended shy of $10k at $9,600. Fairly strong price for a 29 with that large upper left POFC...any boardies win it? I think the price is nuts based on condition. James G just shows what the market will bear on this tough Pre Robin bat cover...the pages were very nice (thumbs u If i had the money right now id have bought that book for 10K easy. If i hadnt bought mine last year i would have def bought this one I also agree it is justified. After seeing all the other crazy prices this year on early Tecs and other key/high demand GA. That 10K is right. (Can't believe I just said 10K is right for entry level, but its true- these books are getting crazy expensive!!!!!) I almost bid $10.1K, but at the last second held off - the appeal is a complete Tec 29, and the fact that there are so few low grade copies - I end up looking for one of 6 books that I can possibly "afford", and it's not like AF 15 where there are 1500 graded copies - there are only about 40 - so if I want one, I really have to go for it. I think low grades get higher prices (relatively speaking) than mid grades because there are a larger number of us who can't reach the mid grades but want a complete copy in low grade... supply and demand and timing determines FMV Sure but it gets to a point that just doesn't make sense. IMO if you can afford 10K you in theory should be able to pay 20K. That being said I can understand an entry level book at a certain price I just don't know why this got pushed this high. I have a restored 4.0 but I bet I couldn't get any interest in that at all as it's PLOD...... James G big difference between 10k and 20k buyers. Spending 10k doesn't mean one will can can afford 20k. I sold a Tec 29 CGC 1.5 slight for $12k a year and a half ago. There is great power in a pre robin Tec Agree there's a big difference between 10K and 20K just like 5K and 10K for most collectors. I know that seems obvious, but unless its talking into the 100K+ then its a pretty substantial difference. Plus a blue label to a PLOD is not the same game if you ask me. My point exactly - when books go "big league" the number of people that can afford grades higher than, say 1.0 (Tec 29) or 2.0 (Tec 33) goes way down - so that leaves most people that want the book clamoring for the lower grade - so lower grade prices get higher because the demand is higher as that is all most folks can afford... Now, that being said, Tec 33 2.0 on Clink went last night for $7.6K, and I was guessing it would be more like $9.5K - so perhaps there goes my theory... P.S, Anyone care to give me an estimate on what the Tec 29 3.5 goes for on Cconnect - I'm guessing $18K...
