There's a lily pad on a pond that reproduces once per day. So, on Day 2 you have 2 lily pads, on Day 3 you have 4, etc.
Question
If it takes the lily pad 60 days to cover the pond, how long will it take for the pond to be half covered? Answer: 59 Days. Think about that.
Question
On what day do the lily pads cover only 1% of the pond? Answer: Day 54. Now let THAT sink in.
Note: This is a simple example that assumes full replication within 24 hours.
