Part VII - Rough Week at the Office At least it's almost Friday! Man, it's been busy at my desk, but I had a few books to keep me company. This week featured a newly arrived from CGC, 9.6 Age of Ultron Variant 1. (This one should have been a 9.8, dang!) - Great series BTW, and looking forward to a James Spader becoming Ultron! A reunion of sorts for Robert Downey Jr. & James. Bookending this bound to be classic is The Might Avengers 30 & Hulk 19! Lookin' pretty good this week! Part IV - Some SS in the Mix! Welcome to my office wall, located in the dining room. Yep, this is the wall I stare at while I try to get most of my work done. I've been swapping out comics on a weekly basis and this week featured Hulk Vs Hercules, a 9.6 signed by Djurdjevic, Brown, Pham, Layton, Calero, Van Lente, and Quesada. I picked this up with the Incredible Hercules, a 9.8, also signed by the gang. Nice eBay finds last month! Centered is good 'ol Captain America 617, a 9.8. Enjoy! Three 4 Thursday!

Part II - More Solo covers... Tnerb noted that the white backgrounds really pop in the natural frame. I could agree more, Tnerb, Thanks for noticing! So, with that I decided to stay with the theme and do some more Solo covers.... Though some really nice books have recently made their way into my collection, I'll just have to save them for another Thursday. Here we have another 70 years cover, this one featuring Sub Mariner on the Black Panther issue. This one always confusing me, but oh well.... Another from One More Day and lastly Iron Fist. I'm really planning on collecting all of the Solo Covers by Marko, but there is still a long way to go! Enjoy your Thursday, Especially if it's your Friday!!!! Oh Yeah!!!! GWEEDO'S CGC FRAMES

Oh yeah, it was well worth it! Just got my 3 panel frame from Gweedos, you may have seen them on eBay. Just thought I'd share with everyone... They are very nice indeed! Quality is sharp, all wood smoothly finished and my comics look great!!!! I went with the unfinished thinking I might stain it down the road. If you've ever considered it, I can tell you this... Go for it! You'll be glad you did. To see old comments for this Journal entry, click here. New comments can be added below.

    Census Question....

Hmmmm.... I went to a new local comic shop last week and spoke w/ the owner about all things comics. Over the course of an hour and half we covered a lot of ground, but one thing he said to me I started to become curious about. He said that when you send in submissions to CGC, you can request that it not be added to the census. Does anyone know if this is true? I kind of doubted it originally, but then I thought it best to ask the group here.... To see old comments for this Journal entry, click here. New comments can be added below.
  21. digging in for the bad news about nice and beautiful and higher grade well, I found myself in another eBay auction aiming to land some nice books for my coupon this year. 4 issues of Tales To Astonish. 47, 64, 59, 101. I had come across a seller with tons of books auctioning off weekly and landed these before finding a conversation about the seller on the forum. A string of unhappy buyers with low grade books, touch up jobs and a strange pressing method. My heart grew heavy as I figured its too late now. The books arrived, I looked them over and they appeared to be ok in the flesh. Still a little strange from an obvious pressing, the spine mainly, but I sent them in. Well, they shipped today and the 101 graded 9.2, just as advertised, so I am quite happy with this one. Now, this particular seller uses terms like nice, beautiful and higher grade instead of grading terms good fine very fine etc. So, for anyone who has sat in this boat, and knows what I am talking about, it appears higher grade means 5.5 to 6.0. Beautiful means 5.0. This leads me to believe a nice copy must be even worse. I guess I have to accept eBay is not the best place to buy ungraded books from untested sellers. Though high feedback would lead you to believe.... but the lamest part is a 59 is missing page 13, which was listed as complete and uncut. I sent the seller a note to let him know, but I doubt there will be a response. ok, last rant. I have had 3 orders this month on eBay arrive in poorer condition than described, 2 orders of modern 9.8 candidates that were crushed on one side simply because the seller packaged that. He advertised as 9.8 but then crushed them with his tape job on the packaging.... wtf I quite enjoy finding raw books and sending them in for grading, but it's just not worth it on eBay. Unless you've found a great seller... TTA47 - 5.5 - list as higher grade TTA59 - 5.0 - list as beautiful - note, page 13 missing... TTA64 - 6.0 - described as higher grade TTA101 - 9.2 - as described To remove the taste from my mouth I think I will just sell them all and buy myself something pre-graded. rinse and repeat. anyway, please stay away from this seller and don't be fooled from 100% feedback. BTW - should we list names of sellers like this somewhere? Save the community some heartache? I totally wish I'd have know before getting into these auctions. The Rumor Mill.....

or... what I read today.... Having takena week off of work I've been quite busy this morning playing catch up. 1232 emails. Yuck! But... I finally made it to the news and read that Benicio Del Toro was cast in the Guardians of the Galaxy movie. It appears his role is hush hush, but being a huge fan I thought I'd throw out my 2 cents. Some articles are leading to him playing Thanos, but my gut reaction is Groot! I think he's got the perfect voice for Groot.... anyone else care to take a stab at it? Did you see this article....? Thought I'd share with everyone a little story brought to my attention... A Superman No. 1 was found stuffed in the walls of a house. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2329179/Workman-finds-100-000-edition-Superman-comic-book-renovating-Minnesota-home.html To see old comments for this Journal entry, click here. Stan Lee

At Frank And Son's Sometimes these things just happen. I live down in southern California and was heading out to the desert to visit my mom yesterday. I thought to myself, oh, gotta take the 60 and I can stop at frank and Son's. It's a warehouse type space with tons of vendors w/ sporting cards, comics, magik, etc... but yesterday, parking was a nightmare! Three laps up and down the street, i finally braved a spot that no one else dared and wandered in. There was cosplay everywhere... And yes, this is way over the top for this place, unless there is an event. Yep. There's Stan Lee. Well, I actually couldn't see him behind the wall of humans, but boy oh boy, does he bring a crowd with him. It makes me wonder what a simple trip to market might look like for this guy.... Though I would like to have stayed and gotten an autograph, I did have my mother waiting, so I took a quick run through the joined, decided it was too crowded so I hit the road.... X-Men: First Class

Looks even better in person! UPS is definately a bit tougher on the boxes coming from Florida, but fortunately enough, the comics are well packaged. Had to share the X-Men book that arrived! Already sent 2, 3 & 4 off and are in grading/QC. What have you received recently? To see old comments for this Journal entry, click here. New comments can be added below.
